I'm sure some of you are aware of the the recent ddos attacks happening to streamers. Most recently the case being with Stephano's opponents being ddosed causing them to disconnect and frustrating Stephano.
I've also seen plenty of teams and players here on sc2sea who have their Skype posted. Why is that an issue? Skype is the best way to resolve an ip address and ddos you.
If you don't know what ddos is, its computers flooding your internet cache with large random packets of data. The baseline is that you'll disconnect for 1-2 mins due to your internet not being able to handle the large amount of data incoming.
That will then bring me to this article. Destiny (pro sc2 and LoL player) has shared a very detailed insight on what ddos attacks are and most importantly how to prevent it.
ddos wont concern you unless someone actually wants to ddos you. Or you meet a person who ddoses people for money. How do they do it? Simple, they keep ddosing you every day and every hour for 1-2 mins and then they contact you saying that if you want to fix it, just pay them a lump sum of money. Usually anywhere from 500-1000 dollars. Best part is, there's no guarantee they'll stop.
This relates heavily to prominent streamers here on sc2sea. It is paramount that your Skype name cannot be found on the internet if you don't want to get ddossed. My advise is for you people to not post your skype name on any website. Especially here on sc2sea. Keep your Skype name as secret as your address, only people you trust and know should have it.
I myself have informed my team to take the necessary precautions.
On a side note. You don't have to fool proof yourself from ddos unless you know you are at high risk of it or you are getting ddossed. It is a pretty straightforward way to protect yourself (check the link) but it is quite a hassle to setup and like I said, do it only if you are at risk (prominent streamers take note) or you are getting ddossed.
Cheers.
P.S Some of you here are extremely IT savvy so if i made any particular errors regarding the information posted above, feel free to correct me. This is just a heads to you all that I think its important to be secure on the internet. Thanks.
