Are you a bronze? Are you sick of fighting silvers and golds for your share of the glory?
Then mGG has the tournament for you!
As part of our recruitment drive, mGG will be hosting a 16 person bronze level tournament
The tournament will be a 16 person pool-play format. Each person will play 3 BO3. That means everyone will get to play 6-9 games. After pool play, the top player from each group will go through to playoff for spots in single elimination style. Whilst there are no prizes beyond glory, mGG will be offering replay analysis for clanless participants (not just winners!). Replay analysis may be done for people with clans as well, depending on numbers. We want to support those who don't already have the support of clan. Where possible, these will be streamed. Otherwise a text analysis will be posted here.
Eligibility: Bronze on all servers. Please do not sign up if you are ranked higher on another server. You MUST be bronze at the start of the tournament.
Where and when: Sunday Jan 13th, 5 pm SG, 7 pm QLD, 8 pm NSW/Vic on the SEA server. Channel: mGG Bronze Tourney
How to sign up: Post below with your in-game name and character code and clan (if any)
Prizes: 1st places gets a dota 2 key (courtesy of pX.Fuzzy) and 1 hour of coaching from an mGG GM. 2nd place gets 1 hour of coaching. 3rd and below recieves a replay analysis.
Map pool: Current ladder maps - Feel free to use WCS versions of the maps. The use of buildings to block off an opponents ramp (between main and natural) will be ruled as a forfeit of that game. Starting maps for 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds will be Ohana, Daybreak and Cloud Kingdom. Loser picks the next maps, no vetoes.
1. Manners and respect above all else. The use of BM (bad manner) will result in a forfeit of that game. A second instance will mean removal from the tournament.
2. Being 15 minutes late for the start will result in a forfeit of the first game. If a player has not shown after another 10 minutes, they will be removed from the tournament.
3. If a disconnect occurs in the first 5 minutes of a game, the game is to be replayed. A second disconnet will result in a forfeit from the tournament, as we can not allow such disruptions to slow the rest of the group. Disconnects occuring after 5 minutes may be sent to an admin for analysis - either a win or a rematch will be awarded.
pXFuzzy and TN?Mike have offered their casting services (http://www.twitch.tv/mickchooks), but so far we don't have any competitors! Seeing as 20% of the server are still bronze, I would have thought they would jump at the opportunity?
Just a reminder for any Bronze players who are interested in this to leave a message here with ur details so we can get accurate numbers. And feel free to link this page to any bronze players you play after your games thanks every one
I am interested in joining the Tournament. But I don't think i can make on 12th, as I probable will be going out than. Even if i am not, it's around my Dinner time and i don't want to have to go in middle of the tournament. I have already mention it to mGGAlpha already.
But it's interesting to have a Go for Bronze only tournament, which sounds fun to have a go at.
But i do my best to make it to the Tournament. If my plan changes in regards to the tournament date, than i can join in
I could play in some later game or something. But It also depends, on when the tournament finish and when i get back home. Even though it is late and already started since round 1, i am still happy to play something related to the tournament (or it doesn't have to be relating to the tournament). So let me know when i am SC2.

As it stand we only have a small number of people interested, two people have said they can't make the time, and it clashes with the return of the SC2SEA BSG (I scheduled mine first, dammit!).
Therefore, I am pushing the date back one day to be Sunday 13th, and back one hour to be 5 pm SGT, 7 pm QLD and 8 pm NSW/Vic. Hopefully more people can make it now. Also, It's looking like it's going to be quiet small. So unless a barrage of people sign up closer to the date, I will probably change the format slightly - maybe to a simple round robbin or something. If it ends up really small (< 6), we might just do some peepmode practice or something. I will let people know at the start.

If that the case i can make it on Sunday 13th 8pm at this point in time. The only worry i have now is the Dinner timing for me (but i don't take long to eat dinner, i could play later matches of the same round, i.e. end). So whatever works i guess.

So...is the Tournament has been changed to be held on the 13th of January, instead on the 12th? Alpha implies the tournament is on Sunday on battlenet forums, which is the 13th of January.
If it is changed to Sunday 13th instead of Saturday 12th, change the time on the main post (post #1) of this thread, otherwise people will get confused with the date and times of the tournament.

Here is another possible website for hosting or managing tournament brackets that you could use. You should give this a try and could be better to use and visually better as well (you can embedded the live brackets image or live download, according to the website). Once tournament is over you probable upload that brackets for everyone to see. Worth a look at it.
Noobschool fun tournament #3, which i participate. Used this website. Example: http://challonge.com/noobschool
mGGLiquid and Pharaoh also participated in this Tournament as well.

Challonge deson't do pool play though. I couldnt find a website that would do pool play format the way I wanted. And yeah it's been taken back one day and one hour, OP updated.

Oh ok...well...you can use it after the Pool, for Round 1, Round 2, ...., Semi-Finals, Finals
Hopefully at my end, timing will work out for me in terms of making it to the Tournament on time (at this point in time).
Isn't it adding one day, rather than taking back a day? lol XD

hehe i dont speak da good english. I speak 'Strayin. 'Strayin doesn't really matter what words you use, cos its mostly grunts and head nods anyway. It's a highly refined form of language. Unconfirmed reports are that it also includes some form of telepathy, but how those telapathic waves are propagated over the internet has yet to be determined.

But having the telepathic ability will be awesome to have! hehe
I just signed up to this site, and it just so turns out that I'm Bronze 1v1.
I play as Random, and it is possible I could get a friend to enter also (totally unconfirmed).

Ok so so far I think we are up to 5/6 people should be lots of fun. Remember please link this page to any bronze players you meet on the ladder, encourage them to make a sc2sea acount if they havnt already, and sign up the more the merrier .

Isn't 6 people a Small number of people for a tournament? i think we need atleast 8 players. In round 2, we won't have enough players, as it will be a odd number of players in round 2.
But hopefully more bronze players come and join in

Be much better if we can get that 8 at least (Keep inviting those players you meet in game and on ladder ) but if we cant we should still be able to run something with a Round robin type format. get every one to play every one the compare scores at the end. And if we have too few numbers we can just organising a training session where we have the bronze players who do come playing against each other with some higher level people watching and giving tips to the players or something (not as fun as a tournament but should hopefully still be fun and help full ) in the end Goose is running this one so it will be his call on what happens depending on numbers.
But i onc e against stress that it makes it soo much useful to invite any bronze players you see either in game or over forums to come and participate.

Yeah...8 will be ideal...I'm fine with anything, but training session is just as good as well (if the tournament is not happening)...well atleast for me it is.
Sure if i'm on the battlenet forums, i can link them to here

Ok, I'm beginning to look forward to this! My strategy is play like my fingers, hands and mind are uncoordinated
Yeah im not even playing in it but im looking very foward to it. rememebr to keep linking this thread to any bronze players you meet in game. We would like to try and find a couple more players.
had an awesome time first time in a tournament and it was a blast, people were kind and everyone was so helpful, the tips were very useful and i defiantly enjoyed myself
Hey sorry guys was gonna do a big write up to finish this part, but its really late and iv been up since 5 am doing non stop on the go today so abit too tired to do it now, but will try and get it done nice and early in the morning.
But will quickly say that it was awesome fun running this. And look foward to seeing all the participants again in the mGG chat channel in game (search: mGG) and on sc2sea.com
Just a reminder if every participant from tonight wants to put in up to 2 replays (dont have to be from tonights games) that they want some help with by high level players then post them here. A tip is dont find games that you play awesome and kick ass. find games that u found really difficult and challanging, will get more help out of it that way. PLEASE be patient, might take some time to get back to you with the analysis, cause we are busy busy busy, but we will get onto it when we can.,

So let me start off with a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated, helped admin and those who watched the stream. Last night went down very well (after some delays at the very start) and its all thanks to you guys. It was great to see how enthusiastic all the players who came to participate were, and how excited (and nervous :P) they were. We did our best rotating the stream to make sure each player could have a turn having their game casted, which I believe we did successful (though I apologize if any one did miss out). You can find the Vods for the tournament here:
Unfortunately (as with any tourney) not all the players who signed up did show, but we did still manage to get a good showing of players leading to 2 groups of 4. All of the players were great at getting their games done on time and reporting their results to the Admins. So a big well done and thank you to the players for being very efficient and the AMAZING help that DrGooSe and I received from yuu and Taeyang.
As the night went on we were all able to have a lot of fun. We got to watch mGGPow and xWhiteDragon with their impressive macro, got to see whacky unit compositions such as Irishboi’s Marine Hellion Banshee play (mid/late game unit comp…. Don’t forget those gasses at your natural bud ) watching dance offs between Straife and WickedAl (sorry AL but you may have won the game, but Straife won the Dance off) and of course plays so revolutionary and extraordinary that it is sure to change the meta game as we know it……… The Straife Steal!
Ohh.. you sir are a genius , Might be 2 supply down already but that was pure sex appeal right there
Lastly to wrap up night 1 of the bronze only tourney we had a surprise visit from none other than our awesome sponsor VroomVroomVroom, who came along to watch and cheer on the competitors. VroomVroomVroom even announced that they would like to put in $20 dollars to the final winner of the tournament so a big shout out to them and a big thank you, for support these developing players. Be sure to check out their website at http://www.vroomvroomvroom.com.au/ and even leave them a message on twitter @CarRental to show them some support for supporting us
Also a reminder that all players who participated in the tournament tonight can post up to 2 replays that will be watched and analysed by a higher league player. Please be patient with this cause many of our players do live very busy lives, and will be giving up their free time for this service.
xWhiteDragon takes 1st place in group B winning all his matches. mGGPow takes 2nd place in group B. Both players will move onto brackets.
Sudden Death Tie Breaker
So our original idea was that we would be doing Group stages, then the top 2 players from each group would move on to a bracket that we will run another night. HOWEVER, Group A ended up ending in a 3 way tie. With Braxeo > Philo >Irishboi > Braxeo and all of them overcoming Jet. So this has lead us to the descsion that before we begin the brackets, we will have a sudden death round for these 3 players.
The way this will work is each player will be given a spot, A B or C. these 3 players with each play each other in a Bo1:
A v B
B v C
C v A
First player to win 2 games in a round will gain the number 1 spot for Group A. Then the winner of the match that did not include that player will gain spot number 2.
E.g.:
A v B - A wins
B v C - C wins
C v A - A wins
Players A and C will move on with player A taking 1st, and player C taking 2nd.
If another 3 way tie occurs we shall start again until the 2 games have been won (in a round).
We would like to run this Sudden death round tomorrow night (Tuesday the 15th of January 2013), at the same time as last night’s competition : 5 pm SG, 7 pm QLD, 8 pm NSW/Vic on the SEA server. But this time will need to be confirmed with the players to make sure all three of them can attend.
Once the 2 players from Group A have been selected we may move onto the final stage of this tournament, the finals brackets, where the players will play their best to win the final prize.
GL and HF!
IMPORANT NOTE: All players in the Sudden death round and Finals brackets have all already qualified as bronze players. So you may (and we encourage it as good practice) ladder freely and win games on ladder. If you get promoted to Silver before the completion of this tournament you will NOT be disqualified because you were a bronze player when it began. So go ladder plenty and get lots of practice for the finals.
I'll definitely be there. No time to practice between now and then unfortunately, but I'll do my best. Even if I don't get through, I had a blast!!!! Playing Braxeo was a learning experience for me to get my FFE up faster, and playing irishboi was some of the most fun I've had in ages.
Jet's games had my heart racing and while unfortunately he didn't win any games, I hope he sticks around in mGG cause he was a fantastic opponent
Just a reminder that the Sudden Death round is on tonight.
Stream will be on at : twitch.tv/colin2100
Can players please be in the channel mGG Bronze Tourney 10 mins before starting time to make sure that we are all clear and avoid delays like last time :P
In regards to the final brackets for the Bronze Tournament, i been told by Alpha he was thinking of doing it on Thursday or Friday. I probable won't make it on Friday as i will probable be going out with my partner for the afternoon and probable evening as well.
For Thursday, I can make it, but since my dad returns from overseas, my dinner routine will return back to normal. But since Thursday happens to be a night i dont have to wash the dishes i should finish dinner between 8:30pm to 9pm AEST. I know its late, but that my family...lol
Well keep me informed of the plan and times for the Final matches for the tournament.
Oh will the final matches of the tournament will work? Let us know as well.
I guess if any plan changes i'll let you know. So sorry Alpha and Goose...for not giving you concrete times about the final matches for the tournament I would like to.

Ahhhhh what a night, what a night. Last night we saw the 3 players who Tied for first place in their group stages face off in a Sudden Death Round, to determine who would come out with 1st and 2nd place of their group and move onto the final stage of the tournament. These 3 players were
Irishboi Braxeo Philosopher
These players faced off Best of 1's against each other to find the nights winners.
The game order going:
Irishboi vs Braxeo
Irishboi vs Philosopher
Braxeo vs Philosopher
After some delays with mix up on starting times we began the first round began. With each player only needing to win 2 games to secure 1st place, and 1 game to get 2nd place, pressure was on with each game counting.
(Funnily enough the same order that their group stage games went on Wednesday)
Another round of Bo1s were done.
With Irishboi once again being able to overcome Braxeo with a strong marine maruder hellion timing. Philosopher was able to take his game agaisnt Irishboi with a well chosen Dark Templar expand. And after an epic 40 min final game to the night, Philosopher was able to take the PvZ against Braxeo, Defeating Braxeos BL army through the use of constant counter attacks destroying Braxeos ecom.
With that the finals scores of the night Ended with Philosopher coming 1st with victories over both Irishboi and Braxeo, and Irishboi coming in 2nd.
A big congrats to Philosopher and Irish for moving onto the next stage of the comp, and to Braxeo, a very close third (with as we said yet ANOTHER tie in the first round of the Sudden death.)
Finals Bracket:
Prize: mGG sponsors VroomVroomVroom have offered to put in $20 dollars for the winner. Please feel free to Tweet Vroom at and Thank them for their support @CarRental.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: We encourage all the participants to practice and ladder as much as possible coming up to the finals. Do not worry if you get promoted (big congrats if you do ) you will still be able to participate in this tournament.

Nice the Final Bracket is Up and this is on Sunday at 2:30pm!
Can't wait for the Semis and the Finals as well, Hopefully, i will reach the final and maybe take i out to win the Tournament...hehe
So the Semis and the Finals work on the: single elimination style? where we only play one game and whoever wins moves to the finals? and than whoever wins one game of the Final, win the Tournament?
Good Luck to Irishboi, Philosopher and mGGPow! Have Fun!

I believe the finals will be BO3 single elimination with a BO5 finals. Alpha will confirm.
So at the moment:
Semi-Finals: BO3
Finals: BO5
If this is single elimination, why do we need BOX? because if we lose one game, we are out. Isn't that what single elimination is meant to be? or do you mean that Single elimination works that one player who lost to BOX, is out of the tournament and the winner moves on to the next round? I am not sure.
___________________________________ Currently i My Youtube Channel: https://goo.gl/6a070Q
This will be a Single Elimination however with a 3rd place match. So the first 2 games will be the semi final games, followed by the third place match. Followed by the Finals (between the winners of the first 2 games).
Semi-Finals: BO3
Third Place: Bo3
Finals: BO5
With the inclusion of the Bo5 another 2 maps have been added to the map pool. The map pool is now: Daybreak, Ohana, Cloud Kingdom, Akilon flats, Entombed Valley.
Each round will begin with a preset game for the first game of the round, then subsequent games will be chosen by the loser.

Oh...I just follow your directions at the time as well, so I know what exactly to do. I didn't know that there was going to be a third match as the brackets didn't show us it, only the semis and the finals lol. So how will the third match work? who plays who?

So yesterday we saw our Final Four players faced off in the final stage of the tournament, playing some very entertaining games. The final four players were:
xWhiteDragon
mGGpow
Philosopher
irishboi
All games were casted by MattyB and Mirth and can be found at: http://www.twitch.tv/mattyb21/b/358709045
You can follow Mattyb on twitter @MattybSC
And follow Mirth @TheBedroomGamer
xWhiteDragon vs Irishboi:
We started the day with a Bo3 between these 2 terrans. In both games irishboi sticking to his very aggressive style that he has been showing the entire time throughout the tournament, getting his 2 rax and factory down before an expansion. In both games Irish was able to get a strong contain on his opponent. xWhiteDragon was doing some impressive macro off his 2 bases, but using MMM, was un able to break the contain in either game. It also seems that irishboi did his homework, cause he was very prepared to fight against xWhiteDragon’s double prong drop style that he has been using throughout the tournament (and in practice), but irishboi was prepared with a solid turret ring.
Game 2, as stated above, also began with a strong contain with tanks and marines by irishboi, trapping his opponent on 2 bases. Though xWhiteDragon still had some good macro, and was able to continually deny irishboi entering up the ramp. Eventually xWhiteDragon went for one last attempt to break the contain, charging in with his army as a distraction as he called down….. THE NUKE OF PEACE, right on top of irishboi’s tanks and marine/marauder army. Unfortunately for xWhiteDragon, by the time that nuke landed (damn that long wait time) his army had been destroyed and the tanks had moved. The nuked landed killing about half of irishboi’s army. But the damage had been done. And Irishboi was able to move onto the finals.
Philosopher vs mGGpow:
Game 1 strong macro game from both players with very…..unique third being taken by Philo in the middle of the map at the usual 5th/6th base position. After multiple attacks back and forth fights, lots of expands being taken, mGGpow was able to force a beautiful engagement, forcing the protoss to fight around a corner, giving the terran a great concave for his MMM and Vikings. The protoss army melted away and the terran was able to take the victory
Game 2 was a short one, opening up with a strong DT expand, Philosopher was able to drop some dts into mGGpow’s main base. Managing to snipe down the main CC, and other production facilities while warping in more stalkers to assist, Philosopher was able to take game number 2.
Game 3 was another short one, with pow opening up with a 1/1/1, and Philosopher going for a 3 gate aggression. With no sort of bunker for defence, philosopher was able to just force his way into pow’s base and knock him out, and earn his spot in the finals.
Grand Finals: Irishboi vs Philosopher
This was an extremely exciting series from both player, that went all the way to game 5. I won’t recap every game, but I suggest if you havnt you go and watch the vods on mattyb’s channel of this final series. With an impressive victory from philosopher made all the bit more impressive by how sick he was (had to pause the game to throw up on multiple occasions).
Some highlights of the series would have to be game 3 where Irishboi revealed his full mech style, with strong use of a tanks, hellions, thors and Vikings. After a mis controlled engagement by Philosopher in the early game, Irishboi was able to capitalize and bring home a strong victory with the might of a fully max and heavily upgraded Mech Army. Being able to push forward and take the victory with the help of a well-placed hidden base.
Game 4: With Irishboi once again opening up with an aggressive rax/factory opener, he was able to do some army trading and even some economic damage, but never quite doing the amount of damage needed to get ahead. Philosopher was then able to counter the heavy Marauder Siege tank (with few marine) style with an awesome combination of Zealots, Immortals and voidrats. Decimating Irishbois contain and charging on for the win of game number 4
Lastly the show down of these 2 strong Bronze players ended in an epic Show down on Cloud Kingdom. With once again Irishboi using siege tanks as he had every other game, but for the 2nd time of the series choosing to go a Mech heavy style one again. With constantany army trading, base denying and many battles from both sides, the game and the series ended with a fully maxed out zealot archon colo army charging into the 180 supply, hellion, marine, thor, seigetank and viking army. The protoss came out successful and went on to win the series and the 20 dollar prize from VroomVroomVroom.
Final Wrap up:
All in all it was a very successful tournament that started a week ago with the group stages. The participation, excitement, the joy in victory and even in defeat by many players made it a Tournament to remember. A reminder to all participating players who have not yet submitted replays, that they may put in up to 2 replays to be analysed by some of the higher league players (a good tip for choosing replays.. is to find ones where you feel you played well, but still lost and want to know why).
I really hope that every bronze player who participated enjoyed the experience, and that you all try and stay as heavily involved in the mGG in game channel (mGG) and on sc2sea.com (best community out there).
So yesterday we saw our Final Four players faced off in the final stage of the tournament, playing some very entertaining games. The final four players were:
xWhiteDragon
mGGpow
Philosopher
irishboi
All games were casted by MattyB and Mirth and can be found at: http://www.twitch.tv/mattyb21/b/358709045
