FORMAT CHANGE : (This is NOW finalized as of 20th November))
Final Format Change :
Starting time has been changed to 10am so the players will need to check-in by 9:30am.
We have allocated more than 16 computers, we will have either 24 or 32 computers. These additional computers are to be set on a lower resolution than the maximum resolution (1920*1080 -> 1680*1050 and some screens will be 1440*900). If players want to change the settings on these computers (will be high texture and everything else on low on these computers), they will be the sole risk taker.
BO3 Double Elimination BUT losers brackets will be BO1. The grand finals will be BO3 * 2.
Please PM me or email me kyungjunim@gmail.com if you have any further questions. I will text everyone who registered tomorrow to make sure if they still want to participate with these changes.
Please check-in by 9:30am, everything else stays the same! Please make sure you bring your own mouse and mousepad at least.
I will be sending a confirmation text to everyone on 21st to see if all 34 players who are registered can make it. If anyone pulls out then I will text people on the waiting list!
As I said before, there will be a few commentators who will be running a stream and this will be shown on 52' TV in the small viewing room (it may be very small depending on how many people will show up to spectate)
IMPORTANT UPDATE :
The registration is now closed as there are more than expected registered participants. However, you can still register yourself in the waiting list. I will be texting everyone on 22nd November to confirm their participation and if someone pulls out or cannot make it anymore, I will put people in the waiting in the order.
This will be really important to figure out how many people are actually coming to specate!
I have just created a Facebook event page and it would be great if you help me to figure out the number of spectators. The place is not so big so if there are too many people I would need to RSVP sadly. (Hopefully not)
UPDATE 2 :
There will be a viewing room with 52' TV on the day, so people can spectate. However the room is not so big and depending on the numbers, we might not be able to provide enough chairs or get rid of couches.. I will provide more update on this later
UPDATE 3 :
There will be chips, a bag of popcorn and drinks for sale. Food from outside is welcome but please do not litter them. Otherwise I have to clean them up (LOL TRUE STORY)
Date: Saturday, 24th November 2012. The tournament will start at 10am.
Location: Internet City, Level 1/93 Albert St, Brisbane CBD
Entry fee: $15
(All participants will receive a FREE Internet City membership with 2 hours of credit)
There are no league restrictions, players of any skill can join.
The tournament will be played on the South East Asian server.
Tournament format: Double Elimination (losers bracket BO1), all Best of 3 (2x Bo3 for grand final, exact same as WCS)
The map pool will be: Metropolis, Daybreak, Ohana, Cloud Kingdom, Entombed Valley
Each player will veto one map from the map pool and then flip a coin/rock paper scissor/decide amongst themselves for first map choice. Loser of each game picks the next map.
BRACKET WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE DAY:
Prizes (Will be subject to change depending on the number of participants)
1st place : 60% of the prize pool
2nd place: 20% of the prize pool
3rd place : 10% of the prize pool
Other prizes are Net Cafe time on their account and possibly random giveaways.
PLEASE REGISTER BY SENDING ME AN E-MAIL

Other information
Players will be allowed to bring their own equipment (mouse, mousepad, keyboard, headset etc). While some computers are more than capable of running SC2 with the highest settings, we recommend using medium options to prevent any unfortunate events.
There will be at least 14-16 PCs dedicated to running the tournament, players will need to report their results immediately once they are finished and they will be told to either pack up for someone else to use the PC or to stay to play another game. We are aiming for as little downtime as possible, so this is imperative to the smooth running of the tournament.
If you have any inquiries please post in this thread, email me at kyungjunim@gmail.com

I'd just like to point out with the format, if it is double elimination then you shouldn't force a second bo3 for the finals. The reason they have the second BO3 in WCS is because the player who came from open bracket still needs to get his chance to drop to the losers bracket. So, why penalise the guy who has come through the event without dropping a match? Your event though, just my 2 cents.
I have emailed back everyone who has registered! So if you haven't got a reply from me . Please let me know! Any suggestions to the event will be appreciated and considered

Players are shown.. total 36 participants and a few waiting players.. I might have to change the format. I was originally thinking of 32 people. We are running this tournament on 16 computers so it might take a long time to finish up.
Could do 6 groups with 6 people then into Double Elimination like ChadMann suggested. What do you guys think?

with 36 and 16 PC's.. why not run 8 groups of 5.. then top 2 go through to play off bracket?.. 6 into 16 doesn't roll too ez :S
It starts at 11am right?.. you should enforce everyone check-in at 10:30 or 10:45 and take that extra time to work out the brackets.. Perhaps email everyone a contact they can ring if they are running late but on the way?..

Great idea about the check-in time 10:30 sounds good, I will update that..
I have got couple of advises from FXOFrequency and I will update the format change very soon.
It will be BO1 double elimination then from top 8 players, (Players will be sorted and seeded according to their leagues!)
it will be either 1) BO3 double elimination with a fresh bracket 2) BO5 single elimination 3) BO3 single elimination with a fresh bracket
The finals will be BO3 x 2 (or a larger map pool BO5 if both players agree).

New format will be announced soon.. throw in any suggestions.. it's really hard to determine a format that won't hurt the net cafe and make people happy, especially with 16 PCs allocated.
Maybe instead of making the first round bo1 double elimination, making it bo3 single elimination? That means you can't get cheesed out as easily, and the final bracket has a better representation of skill? Just my 10 cents

I am trying to see if computers I am allocating are capable of running the game at the typical setting (High texture, with others being low). I will announce the new format in the evening. We will also change the starting time to 10am. I will email and text everyone today or tomorrow morning

yep - got the text.. 90% sure I'll be there..
Also, Check in time strict 9:30 :S then everyone has to sit around for 30 mins.. I know I suggested that check-in.. but that was under the impression you'd be working out what format would be best for those that actually turned up on the day.. But as long as everyone can get access to a PC for some warm up - that should be fine..
