TVP Marine tank opening

Hi Sc2Sea people!!

I was wandering how is it that you are able to execute the marine tank opening against toss?

Some questions i have
What are some indicators that would encourage for this type of strategy?
'forge expand'? '1gatecore expand'

How many rax should i have and what add ons and research should i get Stim/combat?

How many tanks should i move out with?

Should i build a star-port for a spotting medivac for the tanks even though its 'marine tank opening'?

Would appreciate all feedback and advice!

I've been blindly doing the same Marine-Tank opening against protoss for a few weeks now.

The basic build order (that I took after watching sC use it once or twice on stream) is:
12 Rax
14 Rax

Expand with 400 mins (i think this is around 23 or so supply).
take double gas asap after starting the CC.
Start factory.
Start tech lab + reactor on rax.
Start 2 more rax.
Start stimpack research.
Tech lab on fact.
Start tank production.
2 more reactors on barracks.

This lets you do a ~70-80 food 3 tank push. Take your third behind this, and start getting some more tech (adding starports and ebays) while seeing what damage you can do.

If the protoss goes gate expand or anything really greedy, just rally up to about 10 marines from 12/14 rax and walk across the map with them. You should be up against a zealot and 1-2 stalkers at this point, and with a bit of micro you can kill a few probes and get yourself back a harvester lead.

For vision up a ramp, just stim a small group of marines (i'd normally send 3-4) and run them out in front, to avoid getting too badly cut up by forcefields.


Anyway, I know I suck and I'm not sure how high a level this works at, but I've been having success with this build, and actually having fun in TvP for the first time in ages.

Do you try hide one of those rax, or you just let him see it so he thinks hes getting all in'd and maybe overcompensates on defence?

I think it would be fine if they see it. If they overcompensate on defense and add more gates instead of getting that nexus first then just defend and stay happy

14 rax can be a maka rax it doesn't make sure though if they are safely expanding you dont want move out with marines when he is playing safe last thing you want is 3 stalkers chasing you down .
I have seen MKP, Supernova and sC all use a tank build so they definitely work at the highest level!!
I also suggest you take a look at this thread it includes replays vs strong players glgl.
P.S if you are tired off 2 rax expo i suggest gasless expo

Been testing this opening against toss works quite well and you just transition into standard tvp and have a few tanks in the mix

There here are a few, just to let you know that im not the best player these replays will provide you
with a solid opener and in terms of the timings for stim, i would be more inclined to get it as well as medivacs and +1 upgrade after you drop your 3rd rax.

this opening also works well against a zerg that takes a fast 3rd and terrans who 1 rax expand into 3 rax stim medivacs.
With this opener its key to move out once you have ur second tank you just have to make note of your opponents timings, is he going for 1 base play etc.

there are bunch of builds, but most 2 base marine tank tvp goes from 1 rax expo, double gas, add 1 fac, then another rax, so 2 rax 1 fac production.
