Gigabye Slam - Saturday, Jul 7, 2012 Rego time: 9:30 am Start time: 11:00 am Stream:http://www.own3d.tv/TeamImmunity Location: Monash Clayton Campus. Building 8 "rotunda" rooms r2, r3 and r4 (Map)
CGBC is hosting the Gigabyte Starcraft 2 finals. Rego is in r2.
Due to the release of Diablo 3 and the time-out on both sides of the fence the decision has been made to push back all of the online qualifiers by one week. This will hopefully provide time for both players and administrators to execute the qualifiers at the standard we all expect.
Apologies to anyone who had set aside the time and cancelled any hot-dates.
With regards to the LAN finals, we have opened dialogue with ACL and are working to see if we can resolve the conflict.
Cheers,
Tony.
In early July, the "Gigabyte Electronic Sports Winter Slam" will begin - a series of tournaments spanning multiple games held over an entire week. Starcraft 2 will be one of the major titles at the event with a total prize pool of over $4,000++ AUD in cash and products. The Gigabyte Slam will be run in partnership with Team Immunity and SC2SEA. SC2SEA will facilitate in the running of the online qualifiers for the event.
The top 3 players of each of the three qualifiers as well as the 5 players with the overall highest points will receive an automatic invitation to the LAN finals @ Melbourne on the 8th of July for the 16 man finals which will run over a single day. The online qualifiers will determine the top 14 players, with two slots for the finals allocated to wild cards from a university tournament. This event will also feature some of Team Immunity's newly recruited shoutcasting team.
This tournament is open to everyone who is a SEA citizen or resident. This is the sponsors request as the finals will be held live in Melbourne and they wish all qualified players to attend the live event. If you are not sure if you are eligible due to your nationality/residency send me a PM.
$20 per player
Each player can play in an unlimited amount of qualifiers. The entrance fees will go towards boosting the total prize pool. Registration will be announced at a later date along with the payment information.
Qualifier 1: 10am AEST Saturday, 2nd June Qualifier 2: 10am AEST Saturday, 9th June Qualifier 3: 10am AEST Saturday, 16th June
LAN Finals: Sunday, 8th July @ Melbourne
The top 3 winners of each qualifier will win an automatic invite to the LAN finals @ Melbourne. The remaining 5 slots will be awarded to the players with the highest points. It is therefore recommended to play in as many qualifiers as possible to increase your chance of qualifying.
This is still subject to change. 1st-3rd placing receives auto qualification and is removed from points pool. They will not be eligible to play in any more qualifiers.
4th - 15
5-8th - 8
9-16th - 4
Seeds #10-14 will be given out in order of points.
Admins: TBD
All qualifiers will be best of 3 double elimination, seeding will be done based on recent ACL Pro Sydney standings, followed by ladder rank. Each qualifier will be held over a weekend. The loser bracket will either be BO1 (Unlikely) or BO3 (Most likely) depending on the number of players signed up, as we have to keep things manageable so it ends in one day. The Map pool will be announced shortly.
Q: How do I register?
A: Registration is not open yet. This is the announcement thread to give players notice. When the time comes for registration a news post will be made.
Q: Why is there an entrance fee?
A: This was the main organizer's requirement and current trend for LAN tournaments with a large prize pool. ACL charges a similar sign up fee.
Q: I am from New Zealand / Singapore / Malaysia / Other SEA country - can I play in this?
A: Yes
Q: I am a South Korean living in New Zealand / Singapore / Malaysia - can I play in this?
A: Yes
Q: I am from South Korean living in South Korea or an American living in United States, can I play in this?
A: No

Yeah well the last gigabyte tourney was 1st $2,500 2nd $1,500 3rd $750 4th $250. It still says tentative so it's not confirmed yet and there will most likely be more money added to the prize pool from registration fee
Unfortunately the Gigabyte LAN can't change their dates as they have already confirmed the venue and are holding a whole series of games over those dates, not just Starcraft. I really hope that ACL is the following week so players don't have to choose between the two. That way many players flying in can stay a week and play in both competitions! Will be an awesome week of sc2 ^^

ESGN is the following weekend while it doesnt have SCII it has the console titles COD8 and FIFA (and PC titles LoL and CoD4 for those interested) so itd be hard for them to hold it weekend after T_T
GG indeed

isn't ACL melb paired with that big blizzard event too? or is that something different?
It is...
I can see one of the two being so robbed of talent.. ACL holds the honour/prestige imo.. but will be interesting to see what events the players choose to attend... if not both - as those that don't make it out of their groups at ACL can bus over to this gigabyte lan and own up a weakened field there. Still if iM and gigabyte were aware of ACL dates - dog act to book in the same town on the same day.. ACL can always go week before or two weeks later.. as ESGN will hurt their numbers if they change to that weekend...

I think this is going to hurt both events (and potentially one more than the other). Not only are you splitting the talent up, but you are also splitting attendance (which is terrible for LANs as you want as many people as possible). I also assume people like to catch up with one another and socialise just as much as competing.

Tough love!
I'm not convinced this is on purpose, let's just wait and see what ACL and iM come up with together and go with that. Neither of these groups would want to clash because of obvious reasons.

It's going to be tough. Both organisers have their venues locked in. :S

The first qualifier is 4 days away, any updates on how participants can register?

We are trying to organize a transport for the guys at GESC who need to get to ACL on the Saturday.
Depends on the traffic.
Because you're going through the city, but you'll take the Monash Freeway most of the time it will be okay.
Maybe 40-50mins during the day.
It does say tentative, so it might be revised? (fingers crossed for the players). As nice as hardware is for prizes ( sponsors), going off what you hear most hardware prizes sit around and collect dust.
For the sake of $2000 more you'll be playing your heart out, which means the finals are going to be super hype!
$500 you can kinda be like oh well, it's not that much of a loss if I don't take 1st. But now, for 2k more, you best be bringing your A+++++++++ would buy again game.
For clarification; the emotion in the games (as well as the amount of oomph players are going to put into the finals) will be 100X more real and more intense because A LOT more is on the line.
Just a few things I've noticed - do you have bracket for the event? There are a lot of people looking for it! I also noticed you haven't been updating your name plate scores, and in some cases not turning them on.
At first I thought it was just me, but a lot of other people said the stream was choppy (although Erasmus said his was fine).
