Respawn Melbourne Sc2 Lan, 28th April 2012: Start time 12pm Midday Sat 28th (Please be ready by 11am!) Format: Swiss bracket - open to all players. Top 8 then proceed into Double Elimination finals for a shot at the awesome prizes + $'s
Swiss Info/Format:
*
Swiss Bracket, Round Robin style, so we all play at the same time, same amount of games minimum. Winners play people who also are winning, Losers play people with few wins. The system balances out the games like that.
Due to this, we have to wait until everyone has completed the round before we can move onto the next one. This will give time for the earlier finishers to grab a drink, watch others play, do some leeching, etc. Please dont drag games out if you are sure to lose, eg float/hide buildings when your opponent is 4-5 bases up, etc. It’s a best of 3, so you have another chance, and everyone won't want to wait around forever.
Map pool:
All rounds are best of 3. Loser of first game picks 2nd map, opponent is allowed 1 veto. If a 3rd game is required, the loser of game 2 may select a map from the pool, excluding maps already played, opponent is allowed 1 veto.
*
Round 1 1st Map:*Wcg Shattered Temple
Round 2 1st Map:*Wcg Antiga Shipyard
Round 3 1st Map:*Ohana LE
Round 4 1st Map:*Wcg Shakuras Plateau
Round 5 1st Map:*Cloud Kingdom LE
Round 6 1st Map: Daybreak LE
*
* Wcg = world cyber games versions. No gold bases, spawn opposite your opponent, changed tileset. Otherwise, same as ladder 1v1 versions. To create, go to custom game, search wcg. If you cannot find for some reason, gsl version is fine too.
*
Map pool you can select from: Cloud Kingdom LE, Tal Darim Alter LE, Ohana LE, Wcg Metalopolis, Wcg Antiga Shipyard, Wcg Shattered Temple, Wcg Shakuras Plateau, Daybreak LE
*
Join in game channel: Respawn (Channel button is next to the in game clock for those that dont know). Finding your opponent will be easier in the channel, rather than in person.
Results:
*
Tell Eddie (FaDeEdOne) results, and feel free to ask if need any help Results can be told in person or in game via private chat. If in game submit in format 2-0, 2-1, with winner clearly stated. If in person, please don't disturb Eddie if he is playing, there is no rush on results, wait until the match is finished.
Additional rules:
All games must be played on the SEA (Australian) server. Game mode = melee, 1v1, Speed = Faster
Players who are more than 15 minutes late will be disqualified (unless admin has been informed why beforehand, and has been approved), their opponent will be given an automatic win for that round. If it happens a second time, you will be removed from the tournament. Reason for this is all games must conclude before we move onto the next round.
If any disconnects occur within the first five minutes of game-play, the match will be replayed. However if the disconnect occurs after five minutes of game-time, it may be replayed if both players agree. However if there is any concern from either player, then it is up to the discretion of the event admin to decide whether; A) the game is to be replayed, or B) player X/Y is to be awarded the win. A 3rd straight disconnect results in a loss of that game.
Any inappropriate behaviour will result in a disqualification
You are allowed to switch races at any time, but must inform your opponent if doing so
Slowhands and I are carpooling it, Room for one more If anyone else wants a lift let me know where you are and if its not too far away I'll pick you up
So if we only have 32 people, we'll implement a system where we only grant the 32 people Internet access via our Intranet. If we can't get that working, we can manually retrieve the IP addresses of those registering for the competition and load-balance them by hand.
Our Internet solution is to Internet-share out NAT'd connections via the University's rate-limited wireless. Each connection is only 1.5Mbit/sec.
Idea: can we book seats so all of sc2sea can sit and lan together? Good idea/bad idea?
only problem with booking is that you have to pre-pay.say that theres like 12 members that want to form a booking. 5 people prepaid. only those 5 get promised seats.... it's just that the people that don't want to pre pay will need to get there fairly early or else they will loose there spots.
(btw from previous events ive been to, paying on the spot is much quicker that pre-paid)
imo I wouldn't bother. just make sure that the people that do arrive early spread there stuff out on the tables and nobody else will take the spots. The organizers don't really care, after noon they might ask people to move there stuff.

this was made possible at SGL we spoke to the organizer and he reserved a section for sc2sea/SCII players, it is possible but its a matter of speaking to the right person

Soon, the good people at Respawn will be releasing the seating plan to v24. If someone gets in nice and early and books the two large tables near the Tt area, or possibly a 3rd table near that, then we shouldn't have a problem seating a lot of the SC2SEA people amongst each other. It's a lot better than having us all spread out between TF2 and CoD kids
Any idea yet what the SC2 format will be? DE or Swiss. $35 a little pricey, and i'm sure main reason most of us from here are going is for Starcraft. Giving more people the opportunity to play against PiG would be cool too!
[12:04:07 AM] Tristan Gulyas: if they haven't registered, we can still fit them in. We're not running in school holidays and we've clashed with a COD4 tournament so we'll have space
Yes you can Welshy! There will be 32 total places reserved for SC2 at this stage.
Eddie has stepped up to run the tournament at Dox is unable, I will get the ruleset up ASAP!
Edit: Have updated the OP with the rule set! It's in a spoiler incase you miss it! Swiss bracket FTW, more games because more. Thanks Eddie! Much +rep to you.
Being the massive nerd baller that Eddie is, he's even added some more cash to the prize pool, everyone should give this man a hug. Updated prize pool in OP too.
I look forward to meeting everyone there , Bash, I can offer you a lift (with a tall, dark, handsome stranger :P), however I can not offer a ride back to your house, so you would have to organise that with somebody else. If you are interested let me know.

Strangers dont worry me
However i'll be staying home and Playing gw2 for 48-ish hours straight.
Swiss style, so everyone gets a fair number of games in, and you should play people close to your skill level as we go. Good for casual - mid tier players, so if you're coming with some friends, encourage them so sign up too.
Awesome opportunity to meet and possibly play against TtPiG!
I believe we'll have our own starcraft 2 internet access, so should be no issues there.
I tried to get Pinder and Deth along, looks like neither will be coming.
I didn't know TargA moved to QLD also, that would have been another good game (Found out the same day I announced this).
Oh well, still should be good fun
I still have one spare PC + monitor if people need to borrow!
Shall be attending looks good! There is still spots for sc2 players yeh..? i dont/didnt know if u have to pre-register for it, and im bringing a mate who doesnt play sc2 but needs to sit next to me so i dunno how we're gonna deal with that lol >.< And is it on the sat or the sunday ? Sorry if this information is somewhere but the respawn site is rpetty bad imo and i couldnt see it anywhere!
lol, so I made this awesome travel plan, walk 3 km to nearest train station, take train to heidelberg, bus route 551 to latrobe uni, winning ... only that bus route doesnt operate on weekends lol, WHO DOES THAT! does anyone have any idea about the buses around that area to get me near the venue without having to walk 5km from heidelberg station? lol
stupid bus companies dont even pick up their phones =_=

System shall be casting the finals later on, so if not at the event, be sure to check that out!
PiG the massive favourite no doubt, but also a great opportunity for others to step up with no Deth + Pinder there. Lots of fun to be had regardless of results.
Unfortunately we were delayed at the start, and had some down time between rounds, due to internet issues, but the respawn admins were really helpful and worked hard to fix the problems.
25 players was a great turnout. We were missing some big name Melbourne players, so its something they could build on for next time.
Thanks to System and Zain for casting for a while.
This was a relatively new thing for us, especially organising the Internet access system which was coded up on the Friday evening and parts of Saturday morning (hence the delay). We'll be refining it so next time, it'll be rock-solid. We know what to look for now! Internet is rarely something we give out to players. We hope to change that in the future.
It was great to see Mayo come along and support us with Tt eSports products and presence and Edd1e did a great job of running the tournament. Was good to meet PiG as well and see him play!
It was an absolute pleasure to have the SC2 community along at Respawn. We know there were issues at the start but you guys showed an incredible amount of patience and understanding while we got things sorted. You rock! This whole community rocks and we'd really like to have you guys back next time.
Shoutouts:
- Kez, took a game off TtPiG and had him on the back foot for a bit in other games too.
- Zardoz and the Respawn admins for being awesome and helpful (patient too)
- Welshy for being sick (as always)
- Eddie for running the comp
- Nicknack for being the nicest opponent (I accidentally LEFT the game instead of going to settings and he remade.. LOL)
- Everyone who played (25 is top shit, we should run SC2 comps @ IBISQ like City Hunter maybe??)
- Welshy's mother
- My one win against SaladDragon
- My first probe kill "CYA MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE" and even making people walk across the LAN to see what the hell I was yelling about.
