Hello SC2SEA - long time lurker first time poster The Sneak here...
I have been searching around on here and TL, looking for an Adelaide Barcraft, but I can't find one anywhere! We have some cool tournies @ Arena, but no barcraft?!
This cannot continue.
I am keen to get an Adelaide Barcraft up and running, but I need your help. Over the next few weeks I want to line up a central venue and target an SC2 event that we can watch. I have necro'd the thread on TL (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/view...opic_id=203083) and have been actively emailing and PM'ing people who have posted in that thread. If I could get a clearer idea of what sort of numbers to expect, that would make venue-hunting a bit easier.
So IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AN ADELAIDE BARCRAFT, please show your support! Let me know on here or via email how many people you know would attend a barcraft event such as a GSL final or one of the major european tournaments.
Also, if you are interested in helping out somehow - say by publicising the event (on facebook, reddit, twitter etc), sponsoring or helping out with equipment and setup, researching and ringing pubs/liquor licensed venues, then please get in touch with me asap! Emails preferred...
UPDATE 27/03: Baldie and myself have started the search for a venue for the first ever Adelaide Barcraft! If you know of a place, or have a favourite pub that is close to the city, please contact us - read baldie's post on page 2 of this thread for the details.
Cheers
Sneak

I think Carlo and Brad from SASL were looking to do something about an Adelaide Barcraft, but I'm not sure what's going on. Come on Facebook and join the group http://www.facebook.com/groups/sastarcraftleague/ I
I'm far too lazy to organise one, so I'll just stick to doing LANs.
Originally we thought of having it within SASL and perhaps due to the smaller community having it at someone's house with decent net and a cable to connect to the TV.
However it has quickly grown to a lot more interest. According to the page there are 20+ guys from within SASL keen (with 15 maybe) and I am sure many others who haven't responded.
I am more than happy to look at options with you being an Event Manager myself. Hit me up on Skype (bradley_baldwin) if you want to work on options but I can guarantee you there is enough interest and so long as it goes well it will only grow.

Legendary.
I will def get in touch with you soon, and its good to hear that we could expect at least 25 through the door at one of these events! And youre actually an event manager. Too good.
In terms of barcraft-able tournaments in our time zone, GSL's are the easiest ones, and some european ones are also feasible. For example, IEM Hannover ran on sat and sunday from 1830 til about 0230 Adelaide time. Unfortunately I think the US tournaments do not run at good pub times... Columbus this weekend runs at like 0030 - 1030 Adelaide time...
Haha you can still have barcraft with people under 18. They just have to order water and softdrinks at the bar.
Long story short, ideally we want it to be accessible to as many gamers as possible but if it falls in the late afternoon going into the night it is unlikely (unless we had a private area within a pub) that under age gamers could attend.
On topic, however, it's only illegal to buy/have someone buy you alcohol (afaik), and even then if we get a bunch of people at a pub to watch Starcraft and buy drinks, I highly doubt the pub will go and check everyones ID. Still, you young fuckers better not drink.

Pubs are getting pretty anal these days. The amount of money they can lose for selling alcohol to underagers or even having alcohol bought for underagers is pretty huge. We had a similar event for the Australian Baseball League at the Alma once and we all got asked for ID when it hit around 8pm.

Yea, also a lot of pubs at that time start turning into club like things. Ive even been taken from a pub for wearing sneakers after 8pm during a meal because they were enforcing dress code. It gets even worse for age unfortunately
So I had a chat with "TheSneak" on Skype tonight (top bloke) and we can confidently say regular barcraft is on it's way to Adelaide! One of the first obvious steps is looking into an appropriate venue to cater to our needs.
We both agreed something in the CBD, or in very close proximity to, is the most practical place to host it as it is central to the most amount of people.
I will be doing some research into venues over the coming days but wanted to ask if any of you had suggestions for potentially suitable venues I should take particular interest in/or if you know people within these pubs we could use.
Criteria:
In the CBD or close proximity to
Preferably not exceptionally busy on Fridays/Saturday afternoons (so we can chat and hear commentary)
Has a suitable sized TV at an appropriate location
Has a satisfactory net speed (sources tell me 6MB/sec download or higher with standard adsl 2 should manage HD streaming) - I can always find this out by calling them later
Bonus if they are cool with having U18s there
Keep an eye on this thread. We will update everybody as things progress. Keen up lads!
