I was at ACL this weekend and had my trusty camera and took something like 1 hour and 45 minutes of footage, a lot of it interviews etc. I want to upload as much as I can as people have spent time answering my questions, so I'll be splitting the video into 4 parts (I hope it fits into 4, could be 5) and will release them as a few goals are met
Below is Part 1. Whats in it?
- Talk with Mafia and iaguz about favorite events in 2011 (thanks to Riichard for the idea )
- Some over the shoulder game watching
- SC2 pro players playing MW3 (PiG, Pinder, Sensei, Rossi, Mafia and even the greatest human being ever)
- Chadman. Interview and gameplay.
Don't even need the first 3 points ^_^
Part 2 will be released when Xeria Gaming's twitter (www.twitter.com/xeriagaming) reaches 100 followers, as a teaser next episode features interviews from Pinder, PiG, Glade, Rossi, Maynarde, More Chadman and Danmate.
Just finished watching, great footage and can't wait for the rest!
Favourite bits are mine and rossi's shit talking in the COD match, we had a great rivalry going and the slow ovie drop was hiliarous, by the time you got my reaction I was back into serious mode trying to win. :P
Please take this constructively... If you're going to use these movies as a marketing exercise to lure twitter subscribers, put some effort into your production. That took all of 5 minutes to make? 25 minutes of shaky, unedited clips with poor audio and a few songs overlaid is really hard to tolerate.

My 2 cents: I honestly thought it was fine. He was purposely mucking around with the camera at some stages too. If it wasnt for this video i wouldn't have had any idea of what ACL was like besides the stream

agree that less camera shaking next time.. probably need a tripod or something but it was an awesome effort as you only decided on doing videos at the last minute, and now everyone who did not have a chance to go to ACL can at least have an idea of what it was like behind the scenes. thanks!
I don't understand the positive responses to this video. It was completely rubbish. Iaguz & Mafia were clearly uncomfortable with Benji's forcing himself upon them with stupid questions. Half of what was said couldn't even be heard properly due to the poor quality audio. In response to Divinity, what I think Dox was trying to say was not that the video shouldn't have been made just that it should have been better. A lot better. But for MY 2 cents, I think it would have been better if there was no video made rather than this video. It does nothing in favour of the event whatsoever. It does not truly represent what actually happened. I seriously hope people don't see it and think, "Oh, so that's what the event was like." Because it wasn't. I was there. Benji did it absolutely no justice. Like I said, better to have done no video than THAT video.

What do you mean? I heard everything even if the quality of the audio was bad and sure it wasn't the best video out there but at least there was content. Did you seriously not enjoy the video? I enjoyed every second of it. It showed what the players and my friends were up to during the event which was very entertaining. Thus my positive rep.

Remind me to never be in a same team as yours.
You're completely wrong, we see from those images how great it must have been, especially for those like me that have seen the streams of the main stage. Now my son can recognize Mafia, "eye-a-guz", Moonglade, Maynarde, Chadmann.
Btw Chad, my 12 yo son asks me to tell you that zealots are not very strong vs Roaches. Wp for being there and trying to triumph against all odds. That was legend ! In Chad we trust.
I'm always quite angry when people who actually works and dedicates to others are trashed by those who just sit and watch. If you want the work improved, say things in positive manner, respectful and never forget to acknowledge what have been done already. If not you will not be heard, you will only make people angry and disappointed.
Benji, thanks for being an active witness of this great event and sharing it. Oh, and next time, lazy boy, hire a professional cameraman, I'm sure you will find the money, it's so easy. :-/ That was good to make iaguz and Mafia talk. It's an ingrate job to do but the result is we ... hear them talk for once, that's great.

Noted, I wanted to make a more fun video and leaving in the less scripted parts was a way to achieve that. The response so far is more positive than negative so I will keep this kind of theme in all 4 videos.

New cameras come with anti shake technology which is quite handy, mine has it I'll upload my video soon, just a quick preview kinda vid. Also a chad v pinder vid that i filmed from my phone which will go up unedited :P.

If I get a new camera, it'll be something I keep an eye out for, I don't exactly have tons of money sitting around tho :P

Okay, now that I'm finally back home in Melbourne, I feel the need to elaborate on my previous post. What I meant is this:
I'm all for people making video blogs of the event! That's awesome. I personally didn't find this one enjoyable, but that's just me.
I don't appreciate people using our event as an exercise in self-promotion though. Okay, I can let the CH/Kingston logos slide 'cos it's your production/Youtube channel and all that. But when you post the video on the front page news of a large community site and demand that people follow you on twitter if they want to see more... it's just kind of tragic, y'know? I mean - you already have your twitter in your signature. You could have simply added a "For more videos, check out my Twitter/YouTube/Facebook" at the end of the movie and it would have been totally respectable.
As far as editing goes, a bit of cropping and planning would definitely go a long way. (I loved the road trip video!) It literally feels like you've just dragged a bunch of footage into Windows Movie Maker and exported a render. I mean, there were literally gaps of green screen between some scenes! Review your footage, plan what you intend to do with it, and pick out the good stuff. You can turn 12 hours of mediocre footage into 10 minutes of good quality video with the right amount of patience and production - and people will appreciate it a lot more. I mean, there was literally a scene of you attempting to zoom in on the commentators and talking about how your hands were too shaky. There is no value in stuff like that!
I truly do look forward to seeing part 2, and I hope it follows in the footsteps of inFeZa's humble video.
I forgot to add:

I suspect you plan on using the additional videos to grow your YouTube/FaceBook/Twitter/Stream subscribers. All I can ask is that you please do this for the community, not your own personal gain. If people like the content you have to offer, they'll naturally subscribe. Don't force yourself upon the community.
i just wanna say that i loved it and thanks for making the video benji i watched and loved all 25 minutes of it idk why people are complaining it was fine and once again thank you
I'm sorry but there is something horrifically concerning about this video.....
I am deeply dissapointed and ashamed of what I see in this image and would like to express my sincerest apologies for the actions of such people.
Please click the spoiler for a larger apology letter.
In all seriousness though, I did enjoy the movie.
It should be labelled more as a team blog/experience as I feel that's what it was.
Very casual and very laid back/relaxed rather then a professional edited movie.
From a spectator point of view, I thought the logo's were a little too large though.

I asked Nirvana where I should post it and he responded with 'News'. I did label it is a team blog (the youtube video itself is).
Was a great day on the sunday Wish i had of competed in the open bracket even though I would of been destroyed would of been fun all the same! Next time I'll try and get the courage to talk to some of the guys instead of awkwardly standing there hahaha
I dont currently have an internet connection at my new house so i cant watch this yet
but based off all the positive feedback in this thread, im deffinitely looking forward to it, so thanks in advance benji
(also i kinda agree with dox tho, the twitter followers for the extra parts is kinda cheesey. perhaps do that for something exclusive to xGKing instead)
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Dox again.
And the obligatory 10 characters

Thanks for your opinion Dox, I will consider it but perhaps next time have a little less venom in your post.
I don't see how you can be so judgmental of my asking for a couple of followers for my teams page when you asked everyone to like your facebook page (facebook.com/doxsc2) claiming it will be 'Providing detailed information regarding all StarCraft 2 events in the South East Asia region!'* then only linking events that YOU are hosting. No City Hunter events? no SEACL? no SGL?

Hey, while you're busy taking direct quotes from my Facebook page, let's play a little game of comparison.
I'm providing a service to the community here by trying to manage a catalogue of all events happening in SEA. Sometimes I miss a few, I'm a human being. I get nothing out of that Facebook page. I actually pay money for advertising on it.
Now having said that, I just quickly scanned down my wall and found a few events which I promoted and had absolutely nothing to do with. Many of these were events that YOU streamed. Not to mention the fact that I often Retweet the stuff you post on Twitter as a favour. I advertise your stream during my commentary. I do you a lot of ******* favours, you know? Maybe you could give reciprocation a try someday.
I don't see how you can be so judgmental of my asking for a couple of followers for my teams page
I'd just like to point out that you were not asking for "a couple" of followers. You specifically said 100 followers when the twitter account was sitting at 39. I don't know about you, but asking for nearly 1.5 times your current subscriber base is not "a couple".

He asked, he didnt blackmail. Thats how it feels.
"If you want to see more, do something for me first!" Getting your used car salesman on!

I won't comment on the video (content or quality) myself because I haven't watched them.
My reasoning for this is the whole aforementioned 'give me followers or no more content' thing.
My 2c.

All the guys playing COD was a bit of fun too.
Thanks for showing us content we couldn't see via the stream.
I don't like the asking for subscribers thing. I'll subscribe when and where I want to, don't need bribing to do it. But going off at Benji about it is just a dick move. I've seen no negative comments about Chris or Mayo posting competitions where you have to go comment/like/whatever the **** it is various facebook pages in order to be given a chance to win free stuff.
As I said, I don't like process, but enough with the ******* double standards guys. Either make a fuss when everyone does it or just shut up about it.

But with my competitions you win something.
I didn't make anybody like my Facebook to compete in any of my events or gain the ability to test a Theron mouse.

Everything I do is for the community.
Most of what you do is for yourself.
Well that's ******* insulting, what the hell do I get out of it? I've spent a TON of my own money on esports events. I paid for my trip to the GC (team pays for players, I paid my own way), I spent my own money getting Light and Mafia to Melb for the Gigabite LAN, I spent my ******* birthday sorting out SGL seating and casting SEACL instead of having dinner with friends or family. But god forbid I ask for a few twitter followers for my teams twitter. Might not seem like a big deal to you, but i'm not exactly floating in money, so when I put my own cash to make an event, its difficult for me. Then to turn around and be called selfish, why do I waste my time and money?

C'mon mate... You paid your trip to the Gold Coast because you just assumed you were commentating the event, without even saying a word to me. Don't try to pretend you were there to perform some service for the community. You were pissed off as hell when you saw the announcement that Maynarde & Doble were casting the event, ranting about how it was a huge waste of time and money.
And don't even get me started on our little chat last week. You remember the one? You have my full permission to publish it here for the public to view. I'm sure that would really demonstrate exactly how "community focused" and "selfless" you are.
I already explained the right way and the wrong way to promote your twitter. I don't know why you're blowing up so hard about it. eSports is fuelled by the contributions of volunteers. The sooner you learn that, the better things will be for everyone in this scene.
(I was hoping we could talk about this on Skype, but you blocking me from your contact list makes it challenging...)
Massive props to Chris by the way - that's exactly the type of promotion I support. It's healthy for everyone.
First up, I just want to so a big thanks to Benji, the guy spends so much time promoting Xeria (and in turn it promotes City Hunter for us ^_^) and has put quite alot of time working to improve the scene, he isnt paid by either Kingston or City Hunter even for ACL I said he could claim his own flight as he is on the team, he quickly replied "that money is for the players not me", the guy is awesome and its great to see him create these little vlogs!(yes I see them as vlogs and not mini films that need to be perfected edited etc)
The only point of the criticism I agree with is that asking people to follow your twitter without offering a little more incentive then just content, however I understand Benji isnt made of money BUT this is where the sponsors come in
The target is small a mere 100 followers however we'll be giving 5 lucky people a 4G Kingston SD Cards when the target of 100 followers is reached!
To be eligible you must be a follower of @xeriagaming and have tweeted to @xeriagaming atleast once, these tweets must have occurred between 3pm AEDT 25th of January 2012 and when the target is reached, This competition is open to Australia and New Zealand residents only (SEA Residents can enter and then have it sent to a friend in Aus/NZ if they wish, sorry rest of SEA I promise to involve you in a future comp!) City Hunter reserves the rights to withdrawn the eligibility of a tweet if they find its content inappropriate.
so support Starcraft II and support Xeria Gaming by following them on Twitter
kinda sad to have 2 of the biggest names in SEA fighting each other over what I would call, nothing.. )=
@chad: sorry for having an opinion? Everybody else allowed to post, but because i said it in chatbox, then decided to edit out of chatbox and post in forums u give me negative rep? Alright mate

Reason: response to Chad
Really? Benji posts a video of his team at an event and drama is started. There wasn't even anything in the video to cause drama.
I personally couldn't care less if he asks for subscribers. I think he would've released the videos anyway even if he didn't get the subscriber count he wanted.
Im just going to (as respectfully as possible) say to Dox that you're opinion of the 'right and wrong way to promote your twitter' is just your opinion. It seems just a little high-handed to say that it is the definitive right and wrong way.
I see no difference between offering token prizes (yay, 5 SD cards among 70 subscribers... I only have 3 already) and extra content to lure subscribers. My opinion is that I just hate them equally. Plug yourself whenever and however you want, if people don't like it they will not follow you, simple as that.
No need to have a go at someone because they don't do things the same way as you.
Pretty keen on this Dox / Benji thing being sorted out privately or something. It's not our business, this isn't the place for it. I know it's hard, but lets change the topic.
Not really my business but from what i understand, Dox was blaming Benji because he used ACL to promote his own team.
I think Benji's intentions are good but maybe he didn't ask Dox if he could use images of ACL so that's maybe why Dox feels a bit pissed off.
@JoFritz : Yeah there is drama here because people have passion and feelings for what they are doing/trying to do for the community. So yeah sometimes it clashes.
I think the only way to solve this is a grudge match.

That's not it at all Froggie, but let's move on. It's not our business!
@Loach - I neg repped you because you said in the chat box about this thread.. then Maynarde and I told you to leave it - its for Dox and Benji to sort out. Which YOU totally ignored.. none of the other people that have posted checked in the chatbox if they should first.. and still you posted.
With that - why is everyone else putting their opinion in? "ohh yeah I disagree with you, and my opinion is that your opinion isn't valid, cause its different from mine...." -_-
I think its obvious that Dox and Benji know more about the situation than anyone else.. While its great and lovey dovey to think that if Benji and Dox worked together they could do great things.. but sometimes two people just can't work together - through differences of opinion. Lets let the two grown ups sort it out by themselves... okay?
With that - why is everyone else putting their opinion in? "ohh yeah I disagree with you, and my opinion is that your opinion isn't valid, cause its different from mine...." -_-
That's not it all... it's not that I'm saying he's wrong because he doesn't share my opinion. I'm saying his opinion is not the only one, and saying Benji has broken -his- rules about how to promote himself/his team, is just saying that and should in no way apply that Benji is categorically wrong.
Let the public decide with their subscriptions/followings who is promoting themselves better, not Dox's opinion. Not so hard, is it?

To be fair to benji, people don't know this but he did ask me first if he could post his video as news, and generally he always does that when hes about to make a news post. I thought many people would like the video (turns out pple liked it even more than expected) so i said yea its news worthy and told him to go ahead. His kingston review not too long ago wasn't "news worthy" and rightfully went under "General Forums", in fact he didn't even ask me if it could go under news, he knew it himself. I guess the issue was him using the news post to promote his stuff. Well I knew he would probably promote his team/sponsors like he normally does and thats usually fine with me cause whenever he does that i just scroll down and ignore it when the sponsor part comes up (sorry benji!) and i thought people would just do the same if they weren't interested so i saw it as no harm to give his team a bit of exposure because after all he did make an enjoyable video for most people and I would rather see video + some sponsor promotion rather then no video at all, as having some sponsor promotion naturally gives the incentive to continue to produce more content. Kinda like on niche sites its common to let guest writers (who clearly just want traffic or a backlink for SEO for their own site) to post some content of value and in return they get to plug "to find out more abou Y go too...X" at the bottom of their post. Whereas if you don't allow that there would be a lot less or even no content coming from these "guest writers" that readers will be missing out on.
I also have to state that dox is a rarity in this world, there is no else in this community that even comes close to Dox in terms of his selfless dedication, thats why he is such a hero to us all. Its hard to meet Dox's standards because every thing he touches is done so exceptionally well. Most of us fall short, and on top of that, people like benji (xgking), arnor(CH), mayo(Tte) and even me (tgm) have some undeniable self-interests vested here and there whereas Dox has absolutely no agenda. But I feel we all contribute to esports and its development in some way, just not in the same pure form as Dox. And I guess it also depends on our PR skills and how we convey the message, e.g arnor's earlier post and benji's basically accomplished the same thing but produced totally different vibes. Basically all of us have good PR skills except Benji (this can be improved ben! ) but as Sensei/ TA have found out when they met Benji IRL at ACL, "he was actually just a nice normal guy" and their attitude towards him drastically changed for the better!
Anyway, hope both sides have a clearer picture now after I've shared this perspective. As everyone said, we would all love to see the both of you working together and not against each other. IMO theres some deeper issues that have to be resolved between you two privately that is causing this tension. As loach has said this is really something over "nothing" and if those issues aren't resolved its just gonna keep popping up like a stubborn floating poop whenever the slightest disagreement appears.

@Chadmann - who cared that I posted in the chatbox? are there rules and regulations that say I cannot post in the chatbox, and then in the forum? I really can't see how you're defending ur choice to neg rep me.. I don't care because OH NO MY REPS POWAZZZZZZ but it's just retarded
Also, I didnt check in the chatbox to ask if i could post, this isnt a permission based forum, in which every comment seeks approval and is then posted...
well now what am i going to do with all these "team dox" and "team benji" t-shirts i got made?!?
ROFL
People seriously need to just stop giving their opinions on this, post in here about the video and leave the other crap alone, your opinion won't help the situation and I doubt either party really cares, they are entitled to think what they think and so are you to some degree, but fueling the fire isn't going to make anything better right now.

I agree, it's complete bullshit that there isn't a scene in the video of me in a cowboy outfit riding infeza with a saddle on his back. I demand compensation and this will not stand.

The way you conduct yourself, and the things you say goes a long way in demonstrating the image of yourself in the eyes of others.
I'm well aware that Benji does tend to excessively promote Xeria/Kingston/SEA Esports/Himself as a caster, and has made no attempt at hiding this - which obviously have rubbed people the wrong way and can easily be intepreted as selfish. But let's not forget the positive affect his promotion has on SEA Esports in general. Therefore, I tend to avoid the focus on the label "doing everything for the community/doing things for himself". Nobody really gets anything significantly tangible in promoting SEA E-Sports, and I tend to say the people who are most involved actually lose out on alot of money (Dox even payed for our pizzas man, enough said). The real reward is really seeing E-Sports in SEA takeoff, and perhaps, wanting to have your community status/reputation (epeen) grow to Nirvana-esque levels. Ironically, it is actually easier to achieve this when you don't focus on this at all (People generally like selfless people - ), or do it very subtly ( - or people who appear to be). You do it like Benji, you going to get backlash, because it is going to appear as shameless self-promotion moreso than promoting E-Sports in SEA (just look at the SEA weeklies as an example).
Derek, as someone whos been playing, promoting, organising, and being generally involved in the scene for much longer. You are truly a guru and a living legend, and noone should ever understate what you have done for the community, hence you probably have the highest credibility in sc2sea as of this moment (even if you didn't even try/care, you are there buddy), and the effect your opinions/comments are enormous. Even though I was generally agreeable to what you were saying, you did come off abit strong in your initial posts, hence why I felt the response by Benji was understandable. Albeit I don't know much about the private conversations between the two of you, but having a person with "god-like status" in the community raining negativity on your content is rather disheartening. Cut the new guy a little slack, put a little sugar in your mug of teachings . Just imagine you and Benji switched postions in this thread, Benji would have been slaughtered.
I have to say, I am someone who generally cares alot about reputation(although alot less now) and I know how to achieve this in my own way if I wanted to, by delivering quality posts, being honest and sincere. Oh and by being on the good books of the biggest names in SEA. EDIT: And the edit button.

Oh gawd Iaguz got a big f'ng manly neckbeard growing!
As for the Benji blabla debate I just want to add that when he is casting he does tend to overly favor xKing players to the point where xKing player does a funky 1 base strat it's brilliant! But Team X player does 1 base strat it's a cheesy fail strat that doesn't deserve to win. It's fine to promote your own team, to root for your own team, but when casting please interpret strats/action objectively.
That being said; your effort for esports is appreciated and you do not need to defend yourself. Even if you did everything for personal gain that is absolutely fine as long as you provide a great service to the community who are we to complain that you gain out of it? Nobody asks you to do charity work and everyone notices your hard work when you are always available for castings etc. How you want to promote your twitter is also up to you obviously, but not releasing x until you hit x is really lame and would actually not make me sign up. I'm all for attention whoring and gathering a following, I just do not think that is the most effective way to do it. Just my two cents on that one as well.

Just a quick update, but I will be releasing part 2 when i finish creating it regardless of followers. Incase people missed Chris' competition on Page 3, go back and read that for sure
Part 2 is taking some time compared to Part 1 as when I created Part 1, I had a free day to just sit there and do it, since then i've been tied up with work, SGL organizing and casting, making it hard to complete it quickly (Work has been done on it). I'll try get it rendered and maybe uploaded tonight, but I am casting alt vs infi, and I can't render or upload whilst streaming.
excuse me arnor? strafe was saying how he "overly favours" xgking members and i merely pointed out that it should be the least of his worries if we are breaking down his casting style. There seems to be far to many people with the same sort of sanctimonious attitude as yourself on this site.
would you have me instead be dishonest and elivate benji to god status? heaven forbid we are honest around here whilst not being overly offensive which i dont think i was.

I would have you be constructive with your criticism rather than adding a comment which contributes nothing to the conversation, you are certainly entitled to your opinion but try mention ways which you believe a person can improve or what are his other problems (give your argument some weight yo) rather than just throwing in a cliche.

see how that was short yet succint enough to get my message across that i disagree. not everything must be an essay and its certainly not my job to coach benji on casting.
fortunately you only affect my reputation points and not my entire sc2sea forum experience.

It was criticism that wasn't constructive in any way; albeit being immature(it's akin to throwing a childish insult like "lol you're bad" without stating the reason for why you think he's bad(the "why you think he's bad" will be the constructive part). That's all there is to it.
simon, I think Arnor was just making the point that it's better to offer constructive criticism, aka. give benji advice on how to improve if you think he should, not just "improve bro". Pretty easy to voice an opinion, especially on the net. It's nicer if the opinion is also helpful .
Though if it's as you say, and your philosophy is simply that flaws must be pointed out without tips of improvement, well then I guess it's as you say a differing of philosophies.
