Hi guys, first of all , my nick is Delac/Easy , i play in the european server ( trying to get cash for a KR/TW too). I´m a zerg silver player and this is a small "sketch" of my project.
I have what you guys call ladder anxiety, which it makes me really nervous when i play ladder or after a few matches (3-5) I cant play anymore. But I want to beat this and be a GM. I told my friends that i would start this project and they told me it would be awsome if I made Vlogs about my laddering day every single day or streaming it so players with the same problem as me , or even newbies that would like to get to Grandmasters will get motivated to keep on playing and trying hard.
Tryed to start this project around 15 days ago, on a local forum but it didnt work as i expected, people started saying it was imposible, that i was a noob and that i will never make it. I found this forum where everyone seems to be really nice and I think its a big family so hopefully i wont get trolled.
If you guys dont mind, I would love if you could answer the poll im going to post. Also any idea you guys have that can hook me up will be great. I really need people´s support to beat this.
Bronze to GM is definitely possible, there are a couple of top GM's in this community who started out at bronze themselves. Gl with your quest.

Kidding. Seriously anything is possible if you're prepared to work on it. Personally I don't think many people would religiously follow as much of it has been done before, and most people fail / give up leaving any followers hanging. What I would suggest though is this. Get sc2gears, a program that saves and organises replays for you. After each milestone write down in your personal log what you want to say, what you think is what got you to the next league etc etc. if you do end up getting to GM you have a record of every game you played along the way, then you also could make a video perhaps showing the different stages of play, thought process etc.
Would be a pretty cool end result, but like I said its not something that id personally always follow
Making vlogs and stuff will take up time you could be training if you want to progress that fast. Depending on how much time you have to put into the game already, this may be a big issue with progressing in higher leagues.

I disagree - having to explain yourself is a good way to solidify ideas and remember things. Teaching is a fantastic way to learn.
If he includes some replays, things he's learned etc in his vlogs, I think it'll help a lot.

it also takes the monotony out of endless hours of training, and lets you look back on your progress.

to be clear, i'm talking about all the extra production and editing and rendering and uploading and stuff that goes on with trying to produce a vlog as opposed to just analysing and watching some replays. It's not just 'lololol I spend 20 minutes a day on this vlog'... it would more likely take you something closer to 2 hours a day if yo u wanted to produce 20 minutes of content. So it's a highly time-inefficient way to improve.
If you are limited on how much time you can play per day, it will hold you back more than help you to actually publish content too regularly.
yeah I wouldnt say daily vlogs are necessary, but every week or 2 wouldn't hurt. Also like the idea of saving some games from each league as you improve then at the end, regardless of reaching GM or not you can show how much you've improved. Wish I had an idea like that when I started playing 1v1 to save some of those early replays and watch my improvement.
Beaware not every one can reach grandmaster. It will be difficult, but good luck to you, and work hard for it
Whoa, 6 replys in 15 mins, well i know getting to GMs league is hard but if i play enough and learn enough I know i can become one. I think that the hardest goal is to actually play ladder without feeling really nervous and having weird panic attacks (Yeah, im really stupid). Im really competitive, infact i´ve been in tournaments of different games, but somehow ladder makes me panic badly. Thanks for cheering me, i will hopefully achieve and i will be able to show the progress. I will save EVERY replay and making a small replay pack with the "Best" ones of each league so you guys can see the progress.
Thanks Yours, Easy/Delac
Vlogs would be better, but I also think that u should stream it.. whether u get a ton of viewers or not - it will be beneficial for u... and if people want to tune in to help u out - or just chill out there - i dont see any downside to streaming it all if you're willing to!
try to think of laddering as practice and when you loose games there is a good chance you learnt something so its ok to loose and soon enough you will start to win a lot more and get promoted also if people watch your stream they might be able to give you some tips.
Being part of a sc2 community is a good step in the gm direction participate in the local comps, be manner and constructive and you'll be surprised at how many people will want to help out! streaming +1 even if you dont get any viewers to begin with. The grandmaster manual might be beneficial too

Not stupid, I get ladder anxiety too, especially after I lose. I jsut have to make myself not care at all if I lose... focus on something entirely different, ie the aim of this game is to not get supply blocked. I also find I win more often like this, lol.
Whilst I can't commit to following your progress religiously I think it'd be a great way to look back over your progress and identify perhaps, the most successful learning methods and approach for yourself.
It's surely possible if you work hard and stay motivated, 'ladder anxiety' is sometimes an issue early on, work on keeping that bonus pool at 0, watch every loss and in the words of the wise man SQLTt.inFeZa
buy TGM and complete everything in that. Its helped me very much already and ive only been doing their methods for two weeks. the spreadsheets etc mean that i get excited when i lose now (which is so weird) because i know that every lose i am going to find something that fixes my game a little more. and i can see these changes in the very next game i play.
i think day9 stated something like, to get to gm from bronze u need to be playing 8 hours a day for a year. im not sure how correct that estimation is but you need to make sure u can sustain a healthy lifestyle and commit to playing a video game for this amount of time.
i wish you all the best and hope you can achieve this goal though, id love to get to GM too!
Good luck to you buddy! I'm in silver league myself and hate playing 1v1s so I'm really curious to see how you handle it. I think I'm just too competitive to play 1v1 cause I don't like losing..haha
Anyway I'll watch any streaming you do, and qwould even happily be a playing partner if/when I'm on.
I think the other hard part trying to do this is putting in the hours. This is why I'm also happy staying in a low league, I just don't have the time to invest, I am happily married and want to stay that way.
I don't know about daily - every few days to every couple of weeks would be good as far as being a reader goes, I think.
Not saying you shouldn't write something for every day if you wish, but if you're planning on publishing somewhere maybe consider publishing the major events. Also, it would be great for you to summarise what the transition to each league meant for you - what did you do to earn a promotion.
I'm keeping note of mine and it's interesting for me to see how similar our journeys are
Perhaps a scheduled stream where you archive all teh game you play...
That way you don't have to do shittonnes of editing etc. and you can just log on, play 5-10 games on your stream, and the vods are saved for anyone wishing to watch them at a later time...
Its totally achievable, you're going to have to work hard and play an ass load of games though to practice. There really can be no anxiety if you're going to make it. If you're scared to ladder you can't climb to the top. However you can use custom games to refine your builds, learn as much as you can about the game and discuss strategy, these all make me feel comfortable to ladder. Remember there will always be days you play terribly and go on losing streaks. Thats a big part of the game, just watch your replays and find out why you lose and document what you struggle with the most so you can work on it
It's more than doable (depending on which ladder you're talking about). I know more than a few people in the SEA GM list who made it there in under a year, starting with zero RTS experience... so, good luck!
As long as you remember to enjoy yourself along the way, it'll be a blast.
If you get caught up in the whole "I'm only this league, I need to be here by now" then your progress will get frustrating a lot quicker.
Have fun and slam the ladder!
whatever plan you write for yourself the most important thing would be to follow it and take action. Read rekrul's blog here for inspiration, best blog i've seen in a while http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=266875
its going to be tough road ahead and of course 1 month is pushing it I would say don't put a deadline on yourself or you're gonna give yourself unnecessary pressure. instead have fun with it, aim high and stay focused(by taking action)
Hey! to be honest i am actually going to try this ! Thank you so much for the idea . ! I will be posting all the video's on my youtube channel. So please come watch however dont let this distract you from EASY post !
My youtube is www.youtube.com/venomlord17
I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that Rossi went from bronze to GM which is who I actually meant XD
Good to see there are a few that made it all the way though. Gives hope to me to make it from placing silver originally.

Hey man, if you set your heart and time aside to play consistently everyday and watch replays to learn how to improve, I'm sure you'll be able to reach GM within a year. =)
If you're really serious with it and you have the motivation you could try doing something similiar to crAzerk's Road to Masters.
It's good because it allows you to review your replays, talk about what went wrong, and what you could do better next time. As a plus side you'll get lots of 's from the community and we'll be glad to help you with any mistakes you make.
You don't have to include pictures (they're an absolute pain to put on this site) but it adds to the readability.
I agree that it's definitely possible, i started off this game in beta on NA on my friend's account in bronze as well and got up to diamond (was highest at the time) in a couple weeks!

There's a big difference between playing a Bronze account to Diamond and being a Bronze player who improves to Diamond.
The latter is a significant achievement, while the former is simply the system adjusting you to where you belonged all along.
I totally feel you on the "ladder anxiety" but those actually go away for me after I play a certain number of games in a row. So if I don't ladder for a long time, its actually exhausting for me to get started again. Sorry, I digress. hehe.
But anyways, like so many before me (and more credible than I) have said, this is completely possible. I had a friend who has no RTS experience whatsoever, no knowledge of SC2 or SCBW and its units, just buy the game, and jumped straight into ladder skipping practice league just after a handful of games in customs/vs AI., and not even having played the campaign at all. He started since the launch, and I doubt he's even finished half the campaign till now. But he's made it all the way to Masters in just about 3-6 months. After that, other priorities took up his time, but he can take out GM players, just that he has no time to ladder to get into GM. He analysed much of his replays, especially his losses, and why and where and how certain actions/decisions he's made resulted in that loss.
All the best to you in this project my friend. I do hope you succeed
I´ve been thinking , and looking to the polls for a couple of hours now and this is how i think ill do it:
-Streaming and leaving the vods for you, also i would like to know if you guys really want me to talk or you dont.
- Doing a daily or almost daily follow up blog with images like "Road to Masters" and attaching the replays just in case.
- Randomly Vloging (Since it takes alot of work to put together)
-When i get promoted I will do a , well lets call it highlight video of all the good moments.
Since i live in Europe i dont know how many people can actually tune to the stream , but it will record my play that you guys can see afterwards.
If you guys think its okay i might start the project in around 1-2 days.
I decided I will play EU Server because KR seems too hard to achieve the goal , I will get the cash and buy the KR version as soon as I can for extra practice.
Thanks ALOT for cheering me up and commenting I really apreciate that you are helping me with this and I hope I can make it really fun to watch/follow.
Yours EASY/DELAC.

Good luck man! I have the same goal (although I'd be stoked with masters) and have the fortunate position of no job apart from uni and easy courses so lots of gaming is very possible I'll see you in grandmasters!
wow thanks for the support guys , I know i can succeed if GREAT people like you guys keep me motivated. I´m really thankfull to the whole community. I am now trying to get some macro based build orders for ZvZ and ZvP, any of you guys know some?
