I approached Elysium Internet Cafe about a month ago, and asked if they would be hosting any tournaments this year. Their reply basically boiled down to, get the interest, they'll do it. So, I throw the gates open to the community to see what happens. If there are enough people, and it all goes well, we can see about trying to get it as a monthly thing.
Post interest here, and when we get a good amount of people up, I'll head down to Elysium and try to set up the entire thing. First run, I'd probably put up the prize money myself, just to get at least someone to come down. As a plus, there's plenty of bars pretty much right next door if this does happen.
Moving from Auckland to Brisbane in a month, will be keen to jump straight into the SC2 community there!
Put me down for showing the interest thingy =D!

Definitly interested, even if having no chance to win, just being able to meet some local starcrafters (but hey if we get the win then not complaining :P) so im deffs up for it... where abouts is the internet cafe?
And we asked the guys about running a tournament ehre and they are fine with it, but it is just expensive, if you want to take the prize pool directly from the entry fee and not get any money from a 3rd party source (i.e. a sponsor or your wallet).. It should cost around 18-20 just for a tournament with no prizes set-up >_> We inquired a few weeks ago in the LAN cafe themselves, and if you want my personal opinion (having attended WCG and B.E.S.T @ Elysium).. their computers lag when playing sc2, and I'm uncertain whether they'd be willing to install a certain LAN application so that we could actually have all of their machines running sc2 simultaneously.
Tl;dr, prize pool would be low + their machines lag when playing sc2

Nope, I live in Chinchilla.
Strange that LAN cafes aren't interested in esports...
Alright guys, with the obviously overwhelming interest, I've contacted Elysium and should be hearing from them later today. Once I've hashed out details with them, tournament is a go and a new thread shall appear to register. Depending on how many from which leagues, it may be split competitions, or one massive open.
Oh, it's not that they're not interested, I was just splurting some numbers to give you a feel for how much you'd have to make the entrance fee to give the top placers enough incentive to come. Personally, I'd show up to a casual tournament just to catch up with all my mates in the scene. They are very interested in hosting eSports, it's just sponsors we need to think about ^_^

Any word on this? I would be keen and could probably drag 2 friends along with me, possible 3. Weird that there is all this interest for just some possible LAN/small tournament and there was only like what, 10 people or something at the ACL regional?

Think it was 16, and in fairness I don't know that ACL had the hype then to attract people. I would bet that following the gold coast event, the next qualifier in Bris gets at least the near 30 who signed up

I just did ACL yesterday, and after how awesome that was, I agree, next one will be ALOT bigger. That was my first LAN and i had so much fun that I definitely plan on attending more

Trying to find time around work to get down there and catch up with the guy who sets all this sort of stuff up. Stupid work! As for 18+ requirement, only the after game drinking session would be age restricted as far as I'm concerned
