Well its finally here and about time too!

The very first "NZ Cup". Where the best of the best (New Zealanders :P), battling it out to determine who is the best NZ Player out there in SEA.

When looking back on it, to help promote and develop eSports in NZ the NZ Cup is an ideal way of contributing to the eSports revolution. For we can all do our part to contribute and help the development of this ever growing idea.

Anyways enough of my rambling onto the tournament itself ...

Okay for the first Season of the "NZ Cup" I figured that this Season would be more experimental then anything to see what can work to make the tournament more successful and far more entertaining. Unfortunately for the first tournament we aren't able to get any funding but im going to try to work hard and establish this event as something NZ can be proud to be a bit a part of and hopefully try to attract some sponsors ^^.

How to Register:

To register in this tournament post your details in the following format:

Battlenet ID/CC: Spartaz, 780.
League/ Race: Platinum , Protoss .
Location: Auckland.

Then once the level on interest has been confirmed and I have sorted out the groups. I will announce the confirmed groups for the Tournament on December 30th.

Tournament Format:

• 16 Player Tournament: (Initially at least, depending of the level of interest shown, definately able to extend this to a 32 Player Tournament (:
• Similiar to the Champions league In terms of Format. Starting off with group stages with 4 players per group, the top 2 players from each group shall advance to the next rounds.
• Bo5 Format Quater Finals (Round 1)
• Bo7 Format Semi Finals (Round 2)
• Finally the Grandfinals a Bo9 Series to determine who is our first "NZ Cup" Winner (Round 3)

Group Stage:

The map pool for the group stages is simply going to be maps chosen from the map pool. With 5 games to be played per group, just to get more fun and enjoyment from the group stages. So that means each player will play each other once in their groups

This tournament will run weekly so the Group Stages will begin on this day, where the 13th will be the Quater Finals, 20th will be Semi Finals and on the 27th the Grand Finals. So quite an easy set up.

I just noticed that Arid Plateau is in the map pool? I kinda despise this map ZvT because of the two bunker block at the natural, and I'm sure many other Zergs feel this way, so maybe a different map could be used instead?

Yeah, I think both the new maps are too new to decide whether they are balanced enough to use in tournaments. And most Zergs have vetoed these ><

spartaz get meta and arid off the map pool please put in the shattered temple and daybreak. meta is basically impossible vs a good zerg and arid has a few massive issues that haven't been exploited in tournament play yet so havnt been fixed yet compared to shattered which is tryed and true and produces good matches and daybreak which is just an awesome map and new enough that you can see some new things

Spartaz you don't have to change the map pool for one protoss... There are always 'balanced' and 'unbalanced' maps varying between different points of view. I don't like arid and stallion doesn't like metal. Who cares, if its just personal preference (or if you wanna call it racial preference). But I agree that some GSL maps would be lovely.

I would still like it to be changed but I'm saying that that is my personal opinion and isn't really enough on its own to justify a map pool change.

On Friday 6th January: 8pm NZST, I am nearly certain I will be busy. but I can play the games earlier or later on that day, I'm not sure if everyone just plays there group stage matches at this time. Around 4pm or 11pm, but It isn't a big deal if this is no possible, but for fairness I would argue if there a replacement willing they should be able to replace me.

Updated the main post: Pushed the Kick off time til, 9 which is reasonable and keeping within the idea that the tournament doesnt like run over 12am sort of thing. To make it fairer on some of the players.

Ok I think I can answer some of these.
1. Question already answered by Spartaz.
2. You play each person once in your group. There will be a chat channel. If there is further information than this, Spartaz will let you know.
3. Spartaz will need to answer.
4. Seeded at a later date. Maybe Spartaz can give more information.

I have a funny feeling i messed up the format for the Maps and that. What I was aiming for so for example the first player you play will be "Game 1" so you play on the Game 1 map. Its a bit confusing ill sort it out probably tonight, it was an idea I had so that the late commers would get a fair shot.

So yeah but as to what order you play in entirely up to you and whose on at the time from your own groups. So it allows a bit of lee way from the start of the group stages to the end. But yeah I can always make the decisions if it needs to come to what match ups to play.

Anyways we will see how it plays out ^^

Because I have highly likely screwed up the format for the map pools of the Group Stages.

One player will chose the map. Then the opposing players get 2 Vetos against what the choosing players have decided. Should make it fair and balanced, trial idea didn't quite work out.

So the map pool will remain that which is chosen in the OP.

Exact same format as what we did last night. So practice during the day and try to be prepared for more mass ZvZvZ.

This is just so I am able to post up the brackets by tonight guys.

People with good ping to SEA: 150 or so ms (From NZ/AU, I believe this is about right).
People with bad ping to SEA: 400+ ms (again from NZ/AU).

Yet pretty much everyone seems to get 250 or so to NA, which is a roughly even playing field, even if it is slightly worse for a few people.

SEA is pretty much unplayable half of the time for me. Was under the impression all Kiwi's played NA for this reason.

It's not so bad, but you need to favour sentry-less play in PvZ, because you just lose games, by either pre-empting FF's (and he's not going in) - or trying to have reactive- FF's, and just having them come out to slow.

Due to the fact Justin hasn't got in contact with me regarding not going to make it Friday night. Therefore all is fair as JasBaz did contact before the night, he therefore advances to the next round.

To prevent this problem next season, if you don't show up your opponent gets a by guys. Anyways now to the Semi Finals. Unfortunately I can't be there Friday night (Cousins Wedding -.-) so im going to leave that round in the hands of my good buddy Flamga hopefully he would be sweet with that ^^

But yeah guys, NZ eSports is really starting to take off. We should all do our bit for the development of this great initiative as its really starting to take off. Well here is how it will go, because I have just been filled in people still havent played matches. Matches WILL be played friday night same time with the exception of not being able to physically make it. Unfortunately with the amount of hassle thats already happened with the games it is going to be play friday or walkover.

So please guys make sure you turn up, or have a really good reason for not playing (like being dead lol) as I dont want games running overtime, especially this being the semi finals.

Sorry for being so strict about this but this sort of does need enforcing and I dont want to rock up ready to cast, and have viewers ready to watch if people just dont rock up.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any play offs for third place. If you wish to co cast, you will have to contact Flamga and see if thats cool.

Im more than happy to do this Would be great to have another player to discuss strategy with, as by yourself its hard to watch the minimap for all that stuff AND discuss strat and analyse. So would be good to have both sides of the matchup for the stream!!!

Now this Friday to the Grand Finals of Season 1 of the NZ Cup:

Uhm.... Its not particularly fair on Flamga as he will be casting (Hopefully ) that night and towards getting to that time is quite and late and 6pm our time is like 4 pm theirs so I guess that baller will still be at work.

Ill see how it goes tonight, but viewers particularly a series of matches with the possibility of 9 games starting after mid night.

Well after a thrilling Season showcasing the best of the best of NZ talent in the Sc2 community, Season 1 of the NZ Cup has come to a close and we have a winner

In a Bo9 between the players:

iris Another vs xGKingJazBas

An amazing series of games it was and incredibly entertaining, showcasing what high level of play NZ has to offer. Where xGKingJazBas took out the title with a hard fought 5-2 win. Some seriously sick play and I thoroughly checking out the VOD's that will be uploaded along with the other stages of the Finals of the NZ Cup from the Quater Finals - The Finals, on Flamga SEA TV:

I just wanted to make a quick couple of thank you's as well guys. Firstly to the players, who took their time to compete and play in this tournament and providing us with some pretty sick series of games . Also to Navi who was able to cast the first week of the NZ Cup during the group stages, giving our NZ perspective on this tournament . Also to cruxStallion who co-casted a long the amazing Mr.Flamga for the Finals. To Petreaus who has helped out and was there all along the way and stepping in for me along with Flam when I was at this wedding (Worst weekend ever really ^^) and now most importantly to Flamga. Who provided this tournament the entertainment, sick sick sick casting, support and pure awesomeness seriously thank you brohan ^^ supporting NZ eSports like a boss

Where to next with this tournament guys?

For now I am going to be giving a week to get all the details sorted out for Season 2 and to start registration, which should be scheduled to kick off around 3 weeks time. So Season 2 offers change and great competition guys So really do come along and support NZ eSports and these amazing players that we have down in our little country :3

Anyway guys, stay tuned for Season 2, its going to be one hell fo a tournament
