APL Group Stage broadcast has finished for today! Thanks for watching, VoDs will be posted sometime tomorrow.
The APL Finals Bracket broadcast begins on Sunday at 1pm AEDT.
-------> APL Stream <--------
Sponsored by GradConnection, helping University graduates find jobs by doing it for you. Life couldn't be easier.
The Australian Pro League is a new group of passionate dudes who love StarCraft, we love watching as much as we love playing, to this end we're in the business of hosting Sydney BarCrafts (speaking of which: Come along to our Sydney BarCraft for the GomTV Blizzard Cup finals) and now we're introducing the first of many tournaments to come.
The Open Bracket recently concluded and from it we gathered eight talented players who will be joining the group stages and matching up against our fine SEA invites. These eight players come from Australia, Korea and the Philippines with the hopes of taking the $800 first place prize home, but every victory is worth something.
Top two players advance to the Championship Bracket.
Keep an eye on our liquipedia page for results when the group stages are in motion!
We don't know yet but we're going to find out soon
We'll be streaming what we can of the group and bracket stages in near 1080p, full details:
Stream: APL Stream Caster: Duckvillelol, don't worry he hasn't lost his passion When: Group Stages December 17 2011 1pm AEDT Champ Bracket December 18 2011 1pm AEDT
We'll be broadcasting some of the open bracket qualifier games in a couple of days (on this stream) as well, December 3 2011 11am AEST. Tune in to see what and who our invites will have to look out for, all the qualified players are quite talented (and patient too, SEA battle.net going down didn't phase them, kudos )
Like what we're doing? Show us some love on whatever social website you use!
A week to go until the Open Bracket goes live, let your friends know they have a shot at going up against SEA's best! Nothing like playing in a tournament to get the heart pumping
We argued about this internally for a long time and the short answer is that it's really, really hard to ensure that people are who they say they are. Acquiring a SEA account is easy, for us to get people to prove they are SEA residents is... not quite as easy. The end result is this, which is regrettable but don't misunderstand our intentions (which seem kinda conflicting, we'll admit : P). The APL will become what it's name says it is, but to do so we first need to show people what we're here to offer. We wish to be like the ACL, hold great Aussie events and have awesome people watch/participate in them, however we lack the same foundation as the ACL so we need to start somewhere, show people we mean business and then go from there.
If you're referring specifically to the tweet: That was misguided intention. It was supposed to be like "hey look, we're doing cool things! Take interest in us and the SEA scene!" not what it came out to be. Great ideas when you're drunk don't seem so great when you're sober :P
Cya on the flip side I'm more than happy to talk to anyone on Skype about these kinds of things btw! Come chat to me, so we can make sweet passionate ... intercommunication.

Most webmail clients (even basic shit like Horde) will give you the option to screen incoming mail by region, which is why I accept all my tournament registrations via e-mail. So unless they go to the trouble of setting up an SEA proxy or giving their e-mail address to someone within SEA to submit on their behalf, it's pretty easy to catch people. ie. When MajOr sent replays (from Gerlan's e-mail address, I believe) in for Dox Cup, it told me he was sending e-mail from Mexico. Just food for thought in future, if you feel like you want to go down this path.
SEA B.Net seems to have crashed for some. If you're caught up in this, players have been informed about the situation and you won't be penalised.
Matches are to be replayed if you disconnected during a match. If one player was a huge advantage, you can discuss between yourselves as to the result of the match. If you can't come to an agreement, seek myself or Rampager for an Admin ruling.
If you're offline and need to play a finishing game, go onto the NA server and join the channel 'APL', we'll attempt to get your opponent to move over as well.
Due to issues with SEA B.Net all matches will be delayed until 2PM Sydney Time (1 hour 12 minutes from this point).
Hopefully B.Net has fixed itself by then so we can continue. At that time, please try to log back into SEA B.Net. If not, check back here for more details.

Oh I didn't know this. I just got eliminated due to being unable to prevent drones from avoiding Banelings despite a 10 second lead time.
Omg sorry bielsko! He was driving me to the airport. Ah well one less sacrifice to slayersCranks proxygates :P. My place ended up delayed by 2 hours gah I wish I could watch on my phone!
Hey there Jerry, you're right, it was my (Rampager) **** up. I could type an excuse but I won't. I hope we'll see you in the next APL, and then I can make it up to you by mailing you a fat check.

thats all right, i am just a bit angry cuz i waste whole morning for that. u are a cool man, gl for the APL 1.
After a few hiccups, we're finally wrapping up the qualifiers. The Top 8 have qualified for Group Stages, along with our invited 8 players. The Open Bracket Qualifiers will stream on the 3rd of December with Duckvillelol casting
why do you start so early... two aus cities had parties and not all sc2 players are nerds.
11am is a pretty common start time for tournaments but I understand that some people love their sleep (I'm a firm believer of more sleep myself). Next time, we'll push it forward abit but by the time we felt like moving it forward a large number of people had signed up and we didn't feel it was right to move the start time after we already had 40+ signups.
Hindsight, as they say, is 20/20.
Anyway, **** this day. z33k going down and SEA bnet being shit didn't make this easy for us. Maybe it's a sign?
I think it was silly to start so early, purely due to any Sydney player who was in Adelaide that had a flight in the morning could not physically have made it back. I departed at 8;30 am and wasn't home until midday - Iaguz and PiG left later than me, I believe. (EDIT: They had a lot of warning about the Adelaide lan, so don't try to chalk it up to short warning).

Both yourself and Iaguz and PiG were seeded into the finals (all the players that flew in a believe)

Tgun: Sure, I already agreed with your point of view previously. We'll be more accommodating in the future but for now whats done is done. Our mistake goes abit deeper than that and shows that yea, while our hearts are in the right place we're missing a few things here and there in our planning. You live and learn.
On the subject of Light's spot: I already offered deL a spot
Moved the thread as our stuff group suggested so as not to clog up APLs thread. Please post all drama in that thread instead and keep this free of it thanks!
Wow man, take a day off and all of a sudden there's grudge matches taking place and pride on the line. Thanks for splitting the thread up, hah.
Later tonight, I'll update the first post with all the new details and post the groups (which you can see in the APL liquipedia). My apologies to deL, Light has decided to give the APL one of his last fights and there will be no need for a replacement.
Arnor speaks the truth, but that kind of information is confusing to digest so I left it out of the initial post. The games will occur over the WCG weekend.
Reason: We're trying to add production to the stream, trying to deliver a slightly different experience. Will it work, will it be interesting enough to be worth a week delay? We hope so.
Is it possible for APL to postpone my matches please? I have family holiday and will be back on Saturday evening.. if not I have to forfeit..T_T
We're on the case. We're contacting the other members of your group to see if they're available Saturday evening, if they agree we're happy to make this happen, otherwise... well, we'll deal with that soon enough I suppose.
Will update this post/update you through more direct means as info becomes available.
edit: Status
Potential postpone time is 10-11pm AEST.

Pretty sure, there were quite a few no shows so they might decide to just allow players to play the rest of the games tomorrow, not sure.
kk. I'll consider myself eliminated but please let me know if theres any changes to reorganising matches. tbh, I don't see the point of not letting us postpone our(my) matches when I did ask for it abit in advance when it doesn't get live streamed? same with tgun's situation aswell where there was miscommunication(or no communication).

Hey there JazBas.
We were unable to postpone your matches due to other members of your group not being readily available at a later time. The only remaining time we have left to postpone your matches to would be sometime before the games on Sunday, which start at 11am. Which means to play your matches, people from your group would have to log on a good 2 hours before, say 9am, to get through your matches (which would all be Bo3) and possibly any tiebreakers. And knowing Murphy's Law, something would probably get in the way of that finishing on time. Not to mention one of those players would possibly be 0-2 in the group and probably not really feel like playing the next day anyway, that's pretty rough.
You can see how in this situation there is almost nothing we could've done. The schedule has been what it is for a full three-four weeks with absolutely zero changes, your family planning a holiday trip was not factored into this due to us not being telepathic. It being live streamed or not doesn't factor into it.

Unfortunately, we can't do this.
To cover the no-shows: YYJ was unable to show because of an emergency. Iaguz I have no idea about. JazBas had a family trip, Tgun got confused with the schedule.
To cover disappearing emails: An email was sent to everyone. If you were ever unsure about the schedule ,we linked all players an information package when they agreed to participate in the APL that detailed the entire schedule as well as rules for the tournament. I'm easily contactable, we have a website with contact info, we have a twitter and a facebook. When the players play has been detailed in various threads http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/view...opic_id=285113 , and this thread before the main post got changed to reflect the group stages There has even been mention of this in this exact thread on the page before this one. If you still feel there wasn't enough notice, then **** it I'll try harder next time and I'm sorry. APL2, bigger better and possibly with more breasts.

No first tournament is perfect, we'll be much more proactive in pushing reminders and notifications in the future."
This is all that you've needed to say, all tournament, really; as long as the criticism is heard, future tournaments will surely be better. I'll be tuning in for the finals broadcast~

Yes I completely understand it if the reason is that (Other players not being able to attend other times). With the contacting, maybe next time yeah could've been better since I didn't know how to contact u at all+didn't get an email at all. Like expect a confirmation reply back and find out whats the problem if you didn't get a confirmation reply from players. Hope the rest of tourney goes well ^^
Hahah, while the results can be gleamed from clicking through match histories and we can't stop players from talking about them, if you want that suspense you should probably stay away until Saturday/Sunday
All players have been paid, and we look forward to showing some exciting games this coming weekend And lastly JazBas: yep, absolutely. All we can do is apologise right now for our mistakes and come back next time more prepared.
The APL Group Stream broadcasts starts in just 10 minutes! We sincerely hope you enjoy what we've done, we poured more time into this then we initially thought we would and the result, although not flawless, should be a great watch.
is anyone else getting some audio/video unsyncing on the stream? I have tried refreshing and it seems the casters voice is like 3 or 4 seconds behind where it should be~

This isn't you, it's us, sorry Our 10-hour rendering process doesn't leave much room for error, and unfortunately there's a audio/video delay. Hopefully it's not too bad to distract from the quality of the games

Thanks everyone for watching and supporting the APL, it means a lot to us It was a nice pilot tournament for us to iron out a lot of kinks and we'll step our game up for APL2. Look forward to it!
