Hey guys, with season 3 closing in fast (about a week i hear?) do you think its worth grinding ladder points in masters to get to rank 1? will it effect how quick i get into gm at the start of season 3? or do you think its worth just playing for fun for now but not as much, then when s3 comes out play a whole bunch because everyones points get reset?

It's still worth playing until the new start so that u can increase ur MMR (hidden rating). As for the promotion/demotions with GM I'm not sure how it works and I didn't think Blizz have announced it either.

I Europe it seems that the candidates to Grand Master are farming the ladder like crazy to increase their MMR to be in the good spot when the GM league is opened for season 3. The race is fierce.

As for GM league, Blizzard said that it was opened two week into each season:
" Qualification for this league is determined after the first two weeks of play following the start of a new season, after which potential Grandmaster League candidates must play one more match in order to receive their promotion."

hmm that is interesting nemo! but i dont see how they can farm ladder any easier as they should be still getting matched with the same level of players before

I think that what makes them farm the ladder is the idea that all the 200 places in GM will be free at the begining of season 3 and will be reshuffled to the best 200 at the end of the 2nd week after the begining of season 3.

Playing hard now is sort of making the "final sprint". They think, with reason IMO, that any advance they can get now with their MMR will be usefull when the season 3 begins.

He's playing at GM level now (I would say roughly 50% of his opponent) and he's playing so much that he's getting nervous (plus he was playing in tournament tonight). He just opened his stream to begin to build a base fan I think.

Add to that that the more you play, the better you get, that give them all the reasons to sprint now I think.

The key thing for any promotion is increasing your MMR so its not realy about grinding points but about increasing your MMR before 2 weeks into next season so that you can get in when GM is formed. After this point the only way to get into GM is to be the BEST candidate from the many players stuck at the top of masters whenever a GM player drops out.

So it is definitely worth grinding ladder to the point where your MMR is high enough that you are getting matched with only GM players.

Well Kez, i'd say keep playing for the following reasons.
1) You improve
2) Increase your MMR
3) Get Rank 1 in Masters so your "Last Season" tab looks better

But yeah i think im just gonna try get as high as possible, being matched with the odd GM now so i think my mmr is pretty good
