Can shout outs be used as a psychological play?

played a 1v1 last night...

this has never happened to me before...so we start up, we both say glhf...then the fella types "long live day 9"

For a second I thought this guy was just a lil fanatical and just wanted to state his man-crush, hey who doesn't love Sean Plott?

But then i was struck with utter fear! Holy crap, maybe he's trying to record for a day 9 funday monday!!! You know how you watch the funday monday and you think how noob is someone to lose to a guy who annouced EXACTLY what he was going to build?? THAT IS GONNA BE ME!!!!!

Totally threw me off my concentration! started walling off at the LARGEST choke to my base, leaving only 1 scv to mine gas...

However BACKFIRE BABY! If u have the thought that u're gonna be on tv, obviously you have to play your best right? Suddenly start building perfectly, expanded brilliantly, scanned just at the right time to see that he's going DT's, detection up, attack foiled! Then walked into his base for the big W!

Now kinda hoping that it gets submitted to Day 9 :P

Hmmm, pyschological warfare! anyone ever thought to type "glhf i day9, BANSHEES", let the opponent pump out vikings and then you actually build mass marine? I have to say you are genius! cheesy...but genius!

Bravo!

So what exactly is this weeks Funday Monday objective? Invisible units only or something? I haven't watched last weeks yet.

hmmm possible. played on taldarim altar LE. He was in bottom right, had his main (yellow), walled off at his natural with pylons, lots of gateways, templar and dark shrine (green). He took out the rocks just north of him and expanded (yellow) elsewhere so technically no pylons in his base :S

lol! I think I got funday monday'd!

Maybe it will work. But once you're outside of gold league people are going to scout and know how the game works.

Haha, the things that are typed throughout the game can be very psychological. When I first begun playing, I fell for the whole "lets have a friendly chat, while I 6pool you" kind of thing as well as overanalysing why people would only write "HF" at the start of the round.

Once my own beginner's noobness wore off I just didn't let anything the other player said affect my own psyche and just played to the best of my ability; win or lose . That said, I still get paranoid when someone is very chatty at the beginning of the game! Haha, once bitten twice shy!

We should try this in the next of System's fundays. We should analyse replays in which this has happened

If stuff said while chatting bothers you you can type gl hf..or your favorite greeting, and then press F11 and block user.
Never tried it myself, cause I dont meet too many chatty people, but it's a good thing to know when you run into someone like..hmmm....combatex?

Sometimes I wish there was an option to just disable in-game chat temporarily. When I'm on a bit of a losing streak and walking the line between a little bit grumpy and fully on tilt, I'd rather not chat to anyone and just focus on playing my game until I cool off a bit. I don't really want to block everyone, I cbf doing it every game and I might miss out on meeting someone cool further down the track!

I like to psyke out my opponent(s) by warning them about drop bears and the danger they pose. I think it works.
