A lot of people have been asking me questions since the Sydney qualifiers, so instead of replying via PM's, I thought I'd make this thread to collate all the answers, and provide a channel for further enquiries. I'll continue updating this post as more questions are asked/answered.
Q: When and where is the Melbourne event. A: August 27th, iBisQ. Details in this thread.
Q: Will the new Season 3 maps be included at the qualifiers? A: No. The maps for all WCGau qualifier events will be: MLG Metalopolis, GSL Crevasse, Tal’darim Altar (LE), MLG Xel’naga Caverns, MLG Shattered Temple, GSL Terminus SE and MLG Shakuras Plateau.
Q: Additional Rules / Tournament Format? A: Players who register for a WCG qualifying event should receive a 3 page handbook that I've written, containing tournament format and rules (via e-mail).
Q: How many more qualifying events are there [for StarCraft 2], and what will the grand final [autoberth] allocations be? A: Offline qualifier events will be held in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne. There will be no offline event for Perth. There will be an online qualifier to cater for Perth/regional participants, however.
Q: Will the prizes at each qualifier be the same as Sydney? More? Less? Equivalent? What about the [$40] entry fee? A: Not 100% confirmed as we are tweaking the events now with committee input and feedback from the previous event. In all likelihood entry fee will be consistent to be fair to all states. Prizes may fluctuate depending on sponsor contribution.
Q: Was the total prize value of the Sydney qualifier reduced on the day? A: The total prize value was not changed. The prizes changed slightly as we were forced to swap the flights and accommodation component of the non-WCG games and use the funds from these to increase the prize pool for the national final (didn't affect SC2). There was a lot of misinformation and conjecture flying around prior to that event, which is why we are endeavouring to keep the community well informed with threads like these.
Q: Will the map pool and bracket format be the same for the remaining qualifiers? What about the grand finals? A: Expect continuity between events. I'll continue to endeavour for fairness (ie. Bo3, Double Elimination) however as always, this could be subject to change pending circumstances. Maps will be reviewed after the launch of Ladder season 3.
Q: Will we have commentators at the grand final? A: Yes! Although I'm not at liberty to say who it is yet.
Q: Will there be an Adelaide qualifier for SC2? A: (5/07/2011) It's actually on my list of confirmed events, however people in this thread have heard otherwise from the venue. So I'll look into this and get back to you. If this can't happen at AVcon, we might have a separate qualifying venue for SC2. A: (7/07/2011) Okay, I can confirm that we're definitely running a SC2 qualifier at AVCON over the weekend of July 22-24th. I don't know why the venue operators told people otherwise!
Q: How much will it cost to participate in the Adelaide WCG SC2 Qualifier? A: The entry fee will cost $10. However AVCON is also charging $40 for a two-day pass. ($30 for a single day, or $25 for students.) We're concerned that the number of participants may be lower than average since SC2 was not originally announced on the list of AVCON events, so please spread the word!
Q: What is the Red Bull qualifier in Sydney? A: Similarly to the launch event, this will be for console games only.
Q: Can Australians who are currently overseas eligible to participate in the online qualifier? A: Yes.
Q: When will the online qualifiers be held? A: September. I'll provide more specifics closer to date, as I don't want to clash with other events which may occur around that time. Trust me, I'll make sure everyone hears about it. This will most likely be a two-day event, with a slightly different format for the opening rounds (ie. group stages). Depends on participant numbers.
Q: Is there going to be a 2nd qualifier for Sydney? A: Not for StarCraft 2, no.
Q: The advertised prizes were $600 cash and $1000 in prizes, but I was told I would receive $500 cash and $750 in prizes. A: I think you were told the wrong information. I'll chase this up and confirm.
Q: Can a non-Australia citizen participate in the events? A: Yes, you can participate. As per WCG tradition, I think you'll be eligible for prizes, but you will forfeit the qualifying spot at the National Finals. I'll chase this up, but I doubt this policy has changed.
Q: When will I receive my prizes from the Sydney qualifier? A: I have nothing to do with prize distribution, but I'll chase this up. I'll try to ensure an ETA is given at future events.
Q: When/where is the Brisbane qualifier?? A: The WCG qualifiers (for all games) will be held at Elysium (Fortitude Valley) on September 3rd/4th. Not sure which day has been allocated to SC2 yet, I'll post once it's been finalised.
I don't think that the adelaide wcg qualifiers includes SC2. Basically they cant get good internet at the convention centre, and theres no mention of a sc2 qualifier on avcon's site.
From what i've heard from my sources the Online qualifier will have limited spots, and priority given to players in areas that can't attend (easily) one of the offline events (ie: Perth, NT, Regional towns)

I assume this also includes australians who are currently overseas?
I finally got a email from WCG! But i'm wondering, the guy running the syd event towards the end who took down my details said the prizes was something like $500 and $750 in products, which was less that it was advertised (i believe) $600 / $1000 products could you help me confirm the prizes derek!

As far as I'm aware prizes were as below.
StarCraft II 1v1 Prizes:
First Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $600 cash + $1000 in prizes
Second Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $300 cash + $500 in prizes
Third Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $100 cash + $250 in prizes
Fourth Place – Free flights and accommodation to National Finals + $250 in prizes
I think you have to be an aus citizen to participate in wcg aus man... (I could be completely wrong and no offence intended if you are infact an aus citizen :])

nah ive been told that i am allowed to play the event.
I remember asking on the AVCON forums a month or two back if they will hold a starcraft 2 tournament. About 10 others swarmed on the thread all demanding it, to which the organisers said they couldn't get reliable internet at the convention centre. So basically, if sc2 had lan, they'd do it.
On top of this, no listings at all of sc2 on their website.
Sure enough, it does show wcg qualifiers to be at avcon, but I think its just excluding sc2... I think it'd be safer to ask someone from avcon about the situation, maybe on their forums, but atm its looking like theres no sc2.
There will be broodwar at avcon though! (Although I don't think thats for wcg qualifying)
Theres a Red Bull qualifier, but it could be similar to the Parra one, with just the Console titles (I dont think there was Console qualifiers at the Cityhunter).

God I wish WCG was faster at releasing information v_v''
Working on getting a few of these questions answered tonight. I already have some of the answers, but i'll have to check with Dave for others. Sorry for the delays!
Are there dates for the online qualifiers? is it open to anyone? I live in a regional area In North Queensland
and can't make it anywhere near a qualifier.

I'll be flying up to Sydney next week for a meeting where we'll be ironing out all of the final details. Expect a lot more transparency after that. I'll be sure to bring along any unanswered questions from this thread while I'm at it.
I know it has been asked a million times before but it isn't mentioned in the "unanswered questions".
Can you find out when/where the brisbane qualifiers will be held? ty dox much love
Oh weird, sorry, I could have sworn I answered this question. I was trying to find it in the OP so I could quote it for you, but it seems I somehow left it out! I'll edit it in now.
Okay so after today's meeting, pretty much all the details have now been ironed out. I'm not authorised to release the information until Tuesday however, so keep an eye on this thread next week.

The map pool is currently ESL/MLG Editions of the following, except for Tal'Darim which is the Ladder Edition:
Is one of the important details me getting my ******* prizes. Cuz I'm gonna start throwing chairs, tables and axes around in a minute if I don't get my shit.
Dox on the TLS website its showing the following:
Brisbane Qualifier (September 3rd and 4th) – Brisbane
It's been moved back or is this different/incorrect?

Sorry I've been a little busy this week and got distracted - forgot to update this thread on Tuesday. I'll update the OP now. Check again in 10 minutes.
I'm British and don't have an Australian citizenship yet (permanent resident visa), am I eligible to play in the Brisbane Qualifiers?
Hey fenner you are eligible to play in these events (eg win all the prizes) but my understanding is you cant represent Australia in Korea (if you were to take down the likes of Glade, Deth, Iaguz in the national finals )

Correct. This question has already been ambiguously answered in the OP.
Melbourne August 27th, iBisQ. Cool! I'll try and get the day off work
Do we have to pre-register for WCG, or can we show up on day and play? I assume pre-registering would be best, but i might be able to talk a couple of people into coming closer to the date, depending on the price.
Q: Can a non-Australia citizen participate in the events?
A: Yes, you can participate. As per WCG tradition, I think you'll be eligible for prizes, but you will forfeit the qualifying spot at the National Finals. I'll chase this up, but I doubt this policy has changed.
This is new; traditionally, even people with PR (permanent residency) were blocked from playing at qualifiers for CS.
There have been some situations where they were allowed to play if the whole team had enough players to be eligible, but this was usually pragmatism more than anything else (needing more teams to sign up so the qualifier was economically viable). I can't imagine this'd be necessary for the SC2 scene at the moment, though.
Happened after WCG 2004 when Diablo (citizen of Brunei) ran around bunnyhopping and cockslapping the shit out of anything that moved. I don't think 23 (team from WA) would have made the finals if Diablo didn't carry their ass there.
That said, the rules were always tight before that - radius, a long term player for bronx, was never allowed to play at WCG qualifiers regardless of what happened. Just how things have been done >_<
Having a situation where players like Targa can compete in qualifiers for prizes and knock out potential WCG reps before the ro2/ro4 seems like the wrong way to go imo

this.
wcg qualifiers for starcraft 2, online or off, are guaranteed a large enough support that we don't need to bolster the profile of the event by adding skilled foreigners.
targa can't represent australia anyway, so he shouldn't be allowed to compete in a competition that is strictly designed to select that representative - and it's not like we need the extra players to fill out the bracket.
(just using targa as an example here, but it applies to all non-aus citizens)
For those that don't know who i am ... I'm Chris "r0cKy" for those that do know who i am ... I'm Chris "r0cKy"
I'm working with the team @ tls to produce the WCG AU 2011 program and we have people like Dox helping us out by being a Community Representitive for WCG AU
So ... to set a few things straight so we are all on the same page.
Who can participant in Quals ... what you guys have mentioned is correct, to represent Australia in Korea in December you do need to be an Australian Citzen, i'm not 100% sure on the permant resident, but i believe that if you qualify for an Australian Passport, you should technically be allowed to qualify for WCG.
I have put the question back to the team @ tls regarding this and i'll keep you all posted about it
Prizes, i know this is a saw spot with most people, we are trying to work out what was promised to communities so we can ensure we don't provide the, i'm aware that people are still waiting, and i believe that the tls team have the cash ready, so i believe some kind of update out of them this week is possible, but i'll confirm that as soon as i can.
Online or LAN based Quals - this isn't confirmed, right now its just an idea, but i'm interested to know what everyone thinks about this kind of stuff, i've been using Dox to find out what he thinks, but if others want to also put their two cents in ... go for it
So yeah ... i'm hoping to have more news and some announcements regarding the Online vs Offline

You already know that players are awaiting their prizes from the first event, so I am sure you'll follow that up, just wanted to note that this is a relatively important point.
The main question I have is details on the final 2 events, location, times etc. Players WILL travel interstate to qualify for WCG and they need a scheudule to organize the trip, If the player is required to start at 2pm, he can fly in the morning etc, and that kinda stuff needs to be made public pretty soon if the Melbourne event is in 2 weeks.
Online vs Offline, An online qualifier for players that are simply unable to attend any of the events (WA/NT/Regional players, as well as players like Tgun who were overseas at the time competing in Korea) would be good.
If you still have room, I am of the opinion that Offline events are far and away better. Theres more pressure, the players are in an unfamiliar environment and it replicates the conditions they are expected to play at the National Finals and in Korea.

Absolutly its important, and we are trying to resolve this issue as best we can! So all i ask is you guys don't beat me too hard for it, NO AXES (points at Iaguz)

Its a valid question, and it requires a valid repsonse, we are still waiting for venues to be confirmed, this has proven to be a near impossible task! but rest assured, that information is coming, it will be provided once it can be!

I personally being a LAN style guy think Offline is much better, but it also depends on where it is held, smaller venues create more issues cause we want to fit in as much as possible ... but i appreciate your feedback.

so.. can non-australians participate in the qualifier and qualify for the national event?
and for the people using me as an example.. if people in melbourne cant beat me they will have no chance at all of qualifying for korea.. same goes for the national event.
edit:
I assume there will be lower bracket at both events anyways.
edit 2: u can also participate in the norwegian qualifier, there's about 5k$ up for grabs : ) gogo scarecrow and dippa

Half of Sydney is coming down, there will be a ton of competition :P

That's not stopping you from 2base zerg imba gaying someone out of a deserving spot though.

Definitely, and the points about having an offline event to qualify for a major offline tournament is very valid. For example, you wouldn't have a team tournament where teams submit a lineup of 5 individual players who play bo3 like in the Nation Wars, and then for the semi-finals do GSTL all-kill format it just wouldn't make sense. The teams that get to the semis have proven themselves with one format and one format only.
Also the issues about smurfing raised are valid. If the prizes are significant it would be relatively easy for someone to smurf and go 50/50 with the prize.

that's irrelevant. if you can't represent australia at the final event, you shouldn't be allowed to knock out people who can. skill doesn't come into it and the same logic should apply to say, glade or tgun, playing in the norwegian qualifier.
If you have an Australian Passport, and have signed the tls indemnity form you are eligable to represent Australia in the WCG 2011 International event in Korea

no, but i guess that was kinda obvious since 2 other guys used me as an example as well as me asking 2 times in the thread regarding non-australians partcipating in the qualifier.
i prefer offline -> online events, but as far as im aware there arent even any decent venues in or around melbourne with space/room for many people that can run SC2 smoothly during big battles.. its really bad to play at venues when the game struggles to get above 10FPS while you're trying to split marines at 200/200.
