I just watched a replay between Happy and aTnSocke on Metalopolis and after watching Happy's play i see how he is such a beast with a 80%+ winrate. But one major thing that I took from the replay, something that i usually forget to do is SCOUT after a big attack from your opponent.

Happy spawned in the 7 o clock, Socke in the 10 o clock position; close air spawns. Happy opens with 1-1-1 build while Socke opens with a stargate into phoenix harras. After scouting this happy transitions into 3 rax bio while expanding. After Socke gets in some good harrasment with phoenix he then pushes with a zealot stalker sentry voidray mix. Happy barely survives with a few units left and some losses to his scvs.

At this point in the game its safe to say from Happy's point of view that my opponent is only now taking his expo because he couldn't of invested so much into an attack while building a nexus. So now i am either ahead or slightly even due to the loss of scv's. BUT what happy does now, something that a lot of players forget to do in this sitution is scout. Happy doesn't freak out and start scanning the protoss's natural because of course he has taken it or he is gearing up for one last desperate attack which i should hold with ease. INSTEAD happy scans where the third expansion of Socke would be, as well as running a marine to the xel naga to check the gold expansions then running it to the 4th and 5th. This is really one of the biggest ways Socke could of gotten ahead (sneaking a double expansion so it is 3 base vs 2) again after containing his opponent with a large attack. MORAL OF THE STORY. After big attacks that leave u feeling sick in the stomach and contained like a fat kid stuck in a water slide, you should always think. HOW CAN MY OPPONENT GET AHEAD and scout for it!

No offence, but I'm sure many people already do this. I know I do, I always like to keep one marine at each possible expansion for the enemy, as well as holding the towers.

Scouting is defiantly something to always do or else you will find yourself being unprepared for fights, and being unable to get the right units out.
A good way to scout for tech mid game in a main of the enemy, is to either do a drop (from a Terran POV) and while running around see what there is, either with marines or Hellions. Or, if you don't want to commit to a drop, just drop a single marine, and stim him around. 50 Minerals to know his tech path is very much worth it.
