I just wanted to begin a discussion on the pros and cons of race switching. I myself seem to have reached a glass ceiling with Zerg, and am contemplating a change, however I don't know if it would be beneficial for me to do so.
Edit: But frankly I've changed to zerg but I've been playing for a week. I see no reason that you shouldn't play other races when you feel like your current race is getting you nowhere but I think you'll end up with your first race but have some good understanding of how it feels playing another race what worries them etc

Zerg is all about knowing what your opponent is doing and trying to out play him, out macro him, and to counter his strat. They style of play if very different from toss and terran. Not all people will enjoy playing zerg, yes many ppl do but its not for everyone.
Im not saying that O, you should be loyal to Zerg, but play a race that suits your play style
In my opinion terran is really creative and is versatile in playing macro, defensive, passive, agressive. So terran leaves you with lots of options.
Protoss maybe is kinda less flexible but it still can be. You can be one that likes to sit on 3 base and mass a deathball, or you can be one that 4 gates every game, or you can be one who likes to play air and map control. Again, it suits your play style.
Zerg imo is the weakest race and most mechanical to play. but it is the most challenging and intersting race to play there are different styles of zergs too!
1. passive, macros well, fends off attacks and strikes with a max 300/200 army e.g. EGIdra
2. creative, kinky, all in ish e.g. Catz
3. Economically agressive such as Kyrix or ST_July
A zerg should be able to play many different styles to throw off his opponent off guard well, thats just my opinion and non of them are actual facts, however i still believe that you should play a race, that suits your playstyle, and most importantly, have fun
PLAY RANDOM! hahah :P

Realistically, I enjoy Zerg, however it doesn't suit my play, making it difficult to win matches and improve. I think that if I was to race switch however, that it would still be just as hard to adjust to learning a new race at a platinum level without a teacher/practice partners. Any insight into this is greatly appreciated!
Maybe pick the race you understand the least? So, lets say you are struggling, for example, vs. terran , if you learn to play it properly and then decide its not the one for you and then go back to zerg, you would have gained alot of insight into that race as a bonus.
IdrA has said on SOTG that there is a use in offracing for a short period of time (maybe a week), but playing seriously. This can give you different outlooks on some matchups you may struggle with, and help you surpass any glass ceilings you may encounter.
Ive been playing Random since the ladder reset. Yeah my builds for both Terran and zerg are non-existent but my mechanics and game sense remain the same, plus if i get pvz or tvp i know exactly how to **** with them. Except sometimes i cant macro for shit as the other races.
Yeah, my problem with terran is the fact that I have no build orders and when a micro based fight occurs I have little to no macro . I think that I will make a change to terran, and perhaps come back to zerg after a while to see if i have made any improvements. I truly find that zerg is extremely hard to play, and I have encountered lots of trouble with all matchups.
For terran, are there any tips I should know? Also, are there any places with a set of openings/build orders so I have a solid footing?
Im only an ex diamond player (havnt 1v1ed at all this season, and only played 20-30 games last season) in Terran, so id be looking at playing some 1v1 practice. I have a kind've fear of playing, or maybe a fear of failure, as i have pretty high expectations of myself as i was pretty good at sc1. So im keen for some practice games.
Liquipedia SC2 Terran page I use that page as all my Terran strategy links as its filled with heaps of good info. Also try YABOT (Yet another build order tester) as it gives you supplies and timings to build certain build orders, which can transition you into the midgame.
Hey Paroxysm!
Yeah well I think there are dfinitely a lot of advantages in switching races. It gives you a huge benefit if you get to experience each race and find their weaknesses and strength. I mean one good example of how it really benefits is like TLO, he played random and when he sticks to a race he can improve so quickly cause he knows so many different aspects of the game!
I recently switched to Zerg from Terran as well, it makes the game much more fun for me becuase I find playing zerg fun and challenging. And even if I'm losing I still enjoy.
Sweet, thanks for all of the opinions guys! If anyone would be able to play a few games with me now and then it would be great! Add me in game wbert4@hotmail.com. Thanks guys!
imo you should pick the race that you like the best regardless of your skill. if you dont enjoy playing zerg than switch its better in the long run. but if you like zerg the best as a race but think youve hit a skill cieling, try changing your style of play rather than race.
