Cool, ta. Updated OP. If anyone knows of anyone else attending, please let me know! Looking forward to watching Filthy play again, haven't seen that giant for like 5 years!
I went 6-2 in my games. I didn't have to play against a 4th person, so I suppose I'm technically 8-2, but w/e.
I threw a game against an incredibly ******* obvious proxy 4gate against one of those Protoss's and I threw a tvt despite having these massive advantages, because I didn't maintain enough mobile aggression against his tank wall of impending doom, but I won all my bo3's so w/e. I shoulda lost one other TvT, I was about to tap out and then the other guy threw his army into a planatary fortress so I could actually get a round of units out and keep going. Kinda helpful when that happens.
I suppose the highlight of my matches may have been accidentally scouting a 2rax all in and then accidentally scouting his 4 rax marine/scv all in followup. I don't usually scout for proxies in TvT, but I do like to keep an scv hidden somewhere in the map to check his ramp and natural occasionally. There just happened to be a rax right there!
My lowlight was protoss. He's playing in the computer directly opposite me. I can lean over and hit him with something heavy, note. I check the replay on the third game. He builds ONE Stalker, then a second gateway, a robo, a twilight council and the dark shrine. STILL AT ONE STALKER. ARGH. COULD JUST KILL HIM WITH, OH I DUNNO, ONE MARAUDER AND ALL MY SCVS. MAYBE DROP IN A MULE, SEND HIM ALONG FOR SOME JOLLIES. MAYBE GET A REAPER IN HIS BASE. KILL ALL THE ******* PROBES.
I slip in an scv (for the third time that series, you'd think he'd learn) and he cancels the Dark Shrine and switches to blink stalkers to get into my main on The Shattered Temple.
WHAT THE **** IS THAT SHIT?
I still win, pretty easily admittedly, but still. Argh. Protoss. So lame.
I think I most likely will come and watch. I didn't come and watch the finals of the last comon tournament so I'll make it up by watching this week of qualifiers
Sorry I've been so inactive for the last 4 months, I'm not up to speed with who plays what races. I've just been guessing / going by what SC2Ranks profiles suggest.
Sixth, LAGWakinLife and LAGbreaker talk a little about the implications of SK Gaming and Fnatic guys coming down to compete in NRG. We're trying out a new 'This just in' type of segment for the Tea Party so please check out it out below:
After a Korean, a German and two Australians, no - not that one. But yes, I'm still with my current one. :P
P.S. Assuming this shit finishes reasonably early, I reckon we should all head out for some drinks afterwards. I'm flying out at like 7PM on Sunday night. Hopefully we have enough time!
Ahahaha yeah, it's this simple :P You're basically on the same road that the netcafe is on once you walk out of central station, just have to take 1 turn. It's a little tricky to find as it shares an entrance with a szechuan restaraunt.

Awkward, was just packing my stuff as I'm about to head to the airport and I discovered that my housemate has my camcorder, and he's at work until midnight.
Looks like I won't be able to do any video interviews until the finals.
If anyone wants me to upload their replays later, e-mail them to derek@sea-play.com or dox@sea-play.com (whichever one is easier for you to remember) :P
I'm not sure on all the results so far, all I know is that i've gone 2-0 and 2-1 in my group so far...
Update: Tgun hasn't lost a game yet, and Filthy has only dropped 1 round, although I didn't catch who it was. Shuffle has gone undefeated through his group so far except for a 0-2 against TASanchez.
Update2: Bolded people have qualified for the finals.
Okay, I'm back in Brisbane now. Made it to the airport with 10 minutes to spare!
Thanks to everyone for the great time today, it was nice to meet some new people and even more awesome to catch up with Filthy/StarHunter/Babs/Ronk/WoBBLy again after not seeing them in so many years!
Could someone please let me know who qualified from the non-bolded groups in my post above?
lol i looked at the stats of the third game and u made 47 drones i dont think 47 drones saturates 3 bases
:P but ut drops were good made it hard for me to move out of my base

General turnout of the day!
It was an awesome Sunday (even though it said it starts at 9 (which we can all agree is too early...)). It was good to see that there are so many more active gamers in Sydney (and from interstate). A lot more turned out then other comps i've been too.
The facilities at In Time Cyber is plus (beats the 3+ year old comps at City Hunter).
With regards to organisation, i think it could have been done abit better (such as the groups/brackets could have been organised before hand). However, from a positive perspective, the organisers were very helpful, friendly and for the most part knew what they were doing.
Result
I agree with TAScarecrows' result for group H (see above post).
After seeing alot of the other games, there are so much high talent. Some shocking results. I didn't know many people there but of the ones i knew that i watched i was quite surprised. For example, I say a couple of game of nGenbenji and it was so intense and very long games, which i didn't expected. I can see that the finals will be even more intense and, of course, alot more enjoyable!
For mine, the player of the day (and definately one to watch from here on in) was FXOtgun, who took down FXOFilthy 2-0 in practice, and YoonYJ 2-0 in the qualifiers (I believe finishing 10-0 all up?) I don't want to take anything away from YJY who admittedly appeared to me to be having some mouse issues those games. His zvt is obviously is very good shape.
nGenStarhunt and REQShuffle also 10-0'd their groups I believe. So along with aLtPiG, look out for a zergslide at the finals!

He's 0-1 to me tho lolzvz
He's pretty awesome tho, gave me some tips between games during my tiebreaker series.
Never played anyone called Nguyen or ylbbow. Check my match history for the other 2 players, as far as who qualified, The Protoss that I 2-0'd didn't make it and Avanar came 5th (But got a wildcard seeding into the finals or something).
The last qualifier for group E was Combatwombat. He, myself and ballmouse tied for 4th place but I forfeited my matches because I had to go, and was also not able to participate in the main event next weekend. Gratz to all qualifiers
Group I:
nGenstarhunter
LAGberimbau
TAzain
Danmate
heLp
TAzain wasn't in this group, ktux was.
iCHORoneHand was also in the group.
A guy called Thrasher was in the group too.
There wasn't anyone called heLp.
Hmm, they must have changed the groups around after I copied them down in the morning.
Yeah I met heLp at like 10:30AM, he was definitely there, but he mentioned he was only able to stay for 1-2 hours. he probably had to leave before we even started playing.
Why on earth you apologizing for 4gating. Your reminding me of the Gold Zerg in my group that came up and said "Sorry I won't ever do it again" after 6pooling me twice, if you can hold this stuff, it just means a quick victory!

Any last comments?
o I want to thank my practice partners, TSL_Clide, ST_Squirtle, and ST_Bomber. ST_Ace will be going to Australia for an event so I hope he wins and brings back many goodies. But today, I think I should buy my teammates some good food.
Wow a real pro-gamer, this is huge. I think I'd rather be watching than playing now.
Its a real a shame some of the very top notch aussies like jesse/edge/spidereight/pinder aren't playing, all the more so now that there are some serious pros playing (not saying anything bad about the guys who are playing, you all rock too!)
I'm at intime cyber cafe right now. Apparantly 6-7 internationals are coming. They're getting the names at 2 o clock, I'll update this thread when I find out.
They also have a massive amount of boxes for razer gear which they're gonna upgrade too. Looks like it's gonna be a good tourney!

omggggggg..... dammit u aussies! i wanna go see this stuff ((((
SUCH A SHAME IM IN HONG KONG T.T
more pics prettyplease!
I am abit surprised that there hasn't been more coverage or better organisation of the competition.
Likely its been advertised for some time but there really isnt much info and we are 2 days out from when it starts.
I have so many unanswered questions, like:
1. Who are the international players?
2. Where are the brackets (who is playing who)?
3. how long will it go for? (i doubt it will finish all in one day). There are 64 qualifiers + 8 inter. with BO3 and BO5s. I think it will span for 2 days but i could be wrong.
I really wish they did some commentating of the games, live stream it or something. i just feel as though the word hasn't go out.
Wow i'm looking even more forward to this tournament. cant wait to be knocked out by a international, its going to be so much fun. i hope all the top sea get knocked out by an international so that 1st, 2nd and 3rd are all from overseas. will make it extra special.

The fact that you think spidereight / pinder are somehow better than (or even close to) Azz/Filthy is kind of distressing.
But yeah, I'm pretty excited to play the Koreans. I think it's stupid as **** to tote it about as a SEA tourney and then fly in 4 progamers, but I'm still confident.
Actually I was trying not to say anyone was better than anyone!
That aside, I recall hearing last week this is going to be the first of many tournaments, and that future tournaments will have qualifiers in various states so interstate players aren't disadvantaged.

The marketing manager confirmed to me at the event that there will be two events a year, with 1 more this year ofcourse. i believe it will remain as starcraft for the first year for sure, but it may include more games in the future.
Francis, are the new razer stuff for the computers to be used?
I'm still considering whether i bring my keyboard and mouse >.<
i also talked to the marketing manager about this, he said that all the computers will be equipped with razer gear, i believe Headset, mouse and keyboard.
you are allowed to use your own gear if you prefer however.

I highly doubt this, while it would be awesome if it were true. i just dont see the business sense behind it to not expect much more coverage for the amount they are putting in.
for example
1) no stream. the last fxo event for $1500. got over 200k hits on the stream let alone the amount of advertisement and exposure it got. for $20k you should be aiming at a much higher number.
2) the date, they scheduled it on the same date as MLG, = not many views even if there was a stream. while forgivable as mlg was announced recently more thought needs to be given next time.
3) no brackets and its still only 2 days away???? wtf
4) no interviews/news etc no hype at all from what i can see.
5) they had the worst map pool and only after so many poeple said so. yes its good that they changed it, but for this amount of $$ you should be researching your market first.
6) unless ive missed it, i still have no clue what kind of format they are running, this will run very late into the night if its your standard 64 man single elim bo3 where is the organisation??????
like i said i really do wish for more events like this in the future, however from a business point of view i cant see it being worth it without all of the above being fixed.

I agree with you completely. At the very least have some commentaries. Even if it is post commentaries. Secondly, they gotta at least release the replays from the qualifiers and the match too. I had to take email my own replays. I think with better organisation it would be 1,000,000 times better!
Ppl like Kelly and Benji and other (there was another lady the commentated that i've heard, cant believe there are so many female commentators in SEA o.O) can commentate.
To err on the side of caution i might bring along my own keyboard and mouse (so use to my settings =P)
I've sent off the replays of myself v YYJ in the qualifiers to Benji, he'll probably cast them after the tournament is over (as I'm sure he's practicing hard aswell).

When I first heard about it, it was already too late to sort out casting. To cast at a LAN you need preperation, casting a LAN from home is just a waste as you miss half the fun of it, and casting at a venue is difficult due to internet and computer restrictions.
I also doubt anyone would fly Kelly to the event with myself and Unstable so close.

Totally understand. Just i would figure the sponsors given the prize pool would want max exposure.
Cost benefit ration really is my point.
I wouldnt mind getting involved or contributing more from an organisational point of view to make things like this better.
Im already onto it! Ive been talking to Nick Popov the marketing director after this week we will be in talks on how to improve the next tournament for both max exposure and gamers convenience!

I have my camera, but unfortunately my microphone is nowhere to be found. Late notice, but if anyone has a microphone they can bring along so I can plug it into my camera, that would be extremely helpful. Built-in microphones for camcorders are rubbish, and don't cancel out background noise.
EDIT: Just to clarify, I won't be able to conduct any interviews without it (maybe in the elevator lol?) so please, if anyone can help!
I made a cleaner version of the brackets in-case anyone has difficulty reading the one posted on the in-time site. I'll be saving a copy to my desktop tomorrow so I don't have to get up and look at the TV's to see the brackets. (Lazy + Overcrowded!)
