Ahhhh.. That was a fun ACL!! Well done to everyone!!
Sooo good to meet so many of you guys! and very excited for ACL Melbourne!! ^_^
VaNzR is a total boss for getting so many other talented people together to make this happen. He looked so tired and stressed by the end of it - and you guys should all give him heaps of mad love and respect.
Huge props to the casters (Maynarde and Doble and all the guests),
Production crew (wow - amazing set up.. I got to check it out while I filled in for inFeZa's obs.. and it was an amazing set up).
Dox - Dude.. you have the sc2 tournament midas touch - everything your involved in always comes out perfect - the delays was not a problem imo.. I'm sure the players weren't up for late night games, but at least it was all ZvZ - imagine if that Championship bracket was all TvT?!?!?! - we would still be there.
Players - nawww mah god, there were some amazing games and so much talent at this event! well done to everyone!
anyway, really looking for bigger and better things at ACL Melbourne!!
I was one of the guys along with Beware a couple pages back who helped a little to put this event together, along with the rest of the ACL crew.
I just want to echo what Beware and a few others have said by thanking some key people who made SC2 and everything else come together so beautifully at ACL Sydney, despite the delay.
Vanzr - A bit of D-Riding for my boss, my room mate and my friend, without Vanz I really do believe eSports in Australia wouldn't be taking the leaps and bounds it currently is. He slaves away at a "normal" job and moonlights as an eSports super hero. He really puts blood, sweat and tears and a LOT of his own money into these events to make them what they are. Make sure you show him your support. Love him. Adore him.
JB - Vanzr's right-hand man and my personal hero, JB makes stuff happen. Seriously, JB is our tech/IT/Stream/LAN guru (officially: Executive Producer) and is just an amazing guy. His vast experience in LAN organisation and the gaming scene in general is pivotal to the smooth running of ACL's events. Without him ACL would also not be happening.
Dox - Baller. No other words need be said.
"Stream Team" - JB's stream team, Blair, Simon etc etc along with casters Doble and Maynarde. These guys are siiiiick and are super awesome. They make the stream what it is and ACL couldn't function without them.
ACL Staff: Beware, Brett, Nephix, AusBox, Nuguns, Killself (I'm forgetting people) - ALL of these guys are the bread and butter of ACL. These guys fly in from all over the country and don't sleep for days to bring you a LAN event worthy of being called an ACL National LAN Event. You may not know them, or have even seen them, but without these guys, we wouldn't have these comps.
The Players - Without all of you, there is no ACL circuit and there is no LAN. We can not say enough times how much we appreciate the support of each and every one of you. The support from SC2SEA and the Starcraft community at large has been simply amazing and we look forward to bringing you even better events in future.
Special mentions:
Moonglade - The champ himself stayed at our humble abode (@AusGamingHouse) and it was a great experience to have him there. He really is an awesome guy and great to talk to. I'm a bronze nub and he didn't even hesitate to help me out and give me some pointers.
Rossi - The Terran Italian Stallion, Rossi also stayed at the house for a bit and is also an awesome guy. I'm officially the apprentice of his apprentice In all seriousness, such a good guy to hang out with, bad luck on your result but I'm sure you'll give Moonglade and the rest of the crew a run at ACL Melbourne!
Livibee - Stayed at the house more often then not alongside Moonglade and is a really awesome gal! Her cooking is supreme! Plus Livibee was also put on the spot by yours truly to become ACL's newest official presenter and conducted all of our recorded interviews at Sydney. Get used to seeing her face at ACL, she'll be around a lot more!
I hope that's it. I always forget people but remember that I do you. Thanks once again to SC2SEA and the community,w e love you guys and look forward to seeing you at future events!
OMFG I just wrote a page long post and accidentally deleted it. fml
I'll summarise:
*Great tournament, shame I lost cos of tiredness (and a bit of framelag). But some of my wins were surely cos opponent was tired so I can't say it skewed the tournament results too far.
*Big thanks to everyone who helped host and organise the event: Dox, Norksman, Maynarde, Doble, Team managers and players, Vanz, Parker and co., Supporters like Asrath n Drgoose who stayed for finals, TAboys +jimdiddy gettin drunk during the semis and finals was hilarious.
*Even fraglabs bearded support guy was very nice and helpful. Not his fault the laptops were having really bad framerates.
*the Asus pcs had alot of troubles, shame they spent more time maintaining the display pcs then providing any fixes for these ones.
Thanks to yang for sick music. Targa for being cocky enough to motivate SEA players to play better. Glade for showing when he has to dig deep, he can do it.
Ninja for 4-1 his group when no1 thought he was a favourite for even 2nd place. And then after slipping up vs glade to lose 2-1 despite having a clear lead he demolished the lower bracket only to lose to Targa at 1.30am looking extremely exhausted and clearly not playing anything near his standard game. 4th place = no money, and always forgotten. But I have no doubt Ninja would have come top 2 if it the tournament finished earlier in the day when he had energy to keep competing. Bl to SQLNinja baller breakout performance of the tournament.
Vanz etc will surely improve this event next time.
My suggestions:
1) Norksman needs an underling to catch people laddering and wasting time and hurry them up.
2) Teammates forced to play first in group play when possible to avoid thrown matches, this wasn't an issue in this tournament but could be in future.
3) SC2 viewing area like on the 2nd day, set up on the first day, with volume just high enough so the audience can hear it. Makes live spetating experience much nicer.
4) Terrans and protoss train harder and make it out of groups you bastards.
I liked the part with the excuses and saying that ninja would have finished 2nd.
Time Delays
A mixture of player time wasting combined with communication between the tournament runners & stream team caused unfavourable delays. Next events will see 1-2 additional 'enforcer referees' recruited to ensure this NEVER occurs again. We will not be lenient on laddering and/or time wasting (especially in the middle of series).
Updated Brackets.
We have a staff member whose only job is to ensure brackets are updated and use social media. Unfortunately Dox uses prehistoric excel sheets for tournament which made it harder to update easily . We will force Dox to go to the dark side and use a web friendly (instant update) version rather than his excel doc in future.
I love the idea of enforcer referees!
as for the excel thingy, why not use docs.google.com? also has Dox kinda in the name
I'm in the process of putting together replays, results, etc for the ACL site and I thought people might like to see the misc stats from Sydney:
For the record, no-one even comes close to the speed of JazBas. He averages over 400 regularly, whilst TargA, YoonYJ & Pokerface often float around 350 in 10-15 minute games.

'Cos we have a bunch of spreadsheets shared amongst ACL staff via DropBox which reference eachother.

If only the record encompassed all the games played there. The game you (very thankfully ) let me play vs LucifroN ran for 51 minutes. Any chance of getting replay packs from the event?

I can't actually seem to find any trace of your games vs Luci in the batch I have, but I'll double check once I've finished digging through them all...

They'll be up soon.
Legend on all behalfs, hopefully the Lucifron games turn up -- I've had enough games go missing (my games vs PiG in the Arena lan late last year come to mind) that it sucks already
