it was bad because tgun didn't win

No but it was a very nice tournament and I wish I qualified for it or at least got in the line for tickets earlier!

Sitting in my bed in Hong Kong I was so hyped the entire event. There were some huge upsets and I would like to congratulate all the players that managed to pull off great wins but also I hope the players that did not do as well as they hoped to don't lose their will to keep on doing better and especially tgun who was 1 game away from qualifying.

The staff did such a great job with the event, I feel like Maynarde didn't get enough love but also the Mods who managed to turn a 6k stream of NA bmers into fans Thanks for delivering such a quality event (or 2!)

Many thanks to all of those hard workers who spent hours backstage working to make this event what it was - the best event ever held in Aus.

And to do it for so little thanks is truly amazing. We should have been getting you guys huge cakes instead of tasteless!

I've watched some of the games since coming back to brisbane, and i've got to say the obs'ing was even better than i initially thought. (and i thought it was good)

I'd also like to thank Blizzard. Without them, none of this is possible.

Players... meh. Should respect your elders more, and allow them to win

I kept trying to convince people that the cake was actually for me for my birthday (Fri 10th), but I think the fact that it was presented to him gave it away. It even had the correct age on it!

Wow, what an amazing weekend.

Look at what we did!

Click the image to open in full size.

I am so incredibly proud of what we've all achieved, the last week seems completely surreal and despite my sleep deprivation I'd like to just write a bit here for the world to read.

This all started many many months ago, as a pie in the sky idea that ACL and Jetstream could possibly be the host to Blizzard's World Championship Series of Australia & Oceania.

Conversation ranged from venues to players, from booths to audio, from casters to players, from cameras to communications, all of us thinking 'wouldn't it be great if...'

"Wouldn't it be great if we could host the WCS for our region?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could compete with IGN, ESL and GSL in terms of production?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could stream it in HD?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could build SC2 themed booths for our players?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could fly some of the best casters to AU?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could promote Australian culture and SC2 esports scene?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could attract thousands of people to watch?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could treat the players like rockstars?"

Being a perfectionist, it's difficult for me to accept anything but the best - in this case however, we exceeded my expectations. We shot for the stars, and went beyond.

In the first few months, we talked about everything from the big picture to the tiny details. Each team member seemed to have a different passion, we all seemed to find our niche to work on, and I think this is what was so key to us pulling off such an awesome event.

In no particular order, I'd like to shine a light on some of the people who have worked so hard to take this from vision to reality, and thank them for making this event happen.

Troy & his brother

I don't know Troy's brother's name, but from what I know he did the majority of the fabrication on the booths, so massive respect for his contribution to our event!

Troy:

Troy and his brother were charged with constructing our booths and the presenter's desk. Over many months they went from an idea, to a plan, to fabrication, to construction, then transport and installation at the venue.

The booths were a vision which we thought would be almost impossible, but through hard work, dedication and hundreds of manhours, the finished product was something to behold.

They were completely custom built, and (we think) could withstand a hurricane. They took a team of five workers TWO DAYS to assemble after transport, and once completed looked absolutely amazing. Thank you so much Troy & brother for your work on the booths & casters desk.

Simon / Webberist

Click the image to open in full size.

Simon started down the path of lighting and effects and never looked back. Officially, Simon is our photographer, and a skilled one at that, but in the space of a few months, he researched and mastered controllable lighting for our stage and booths.

Simon was responsible not only for the lighting in the booths, and the cool LED-strip lighting around them, but also for the construction of the booths, and transport from Brisbane to Sydney in the back of a van, and back again.

Simon's efforts resulted not only in an amazing looking stage, but the safe and timely delivery and return of all our equipment from Brisbane to Sydney and back again. On Sunday night when the stream team was totally dead from the weekend's efforts, Simon arrived fresh and ready to rock, and got us through the pack-up and shipping back to Brisbane. Thanks dude.

Damien / Camera Team

Click the image to open in full size.

Damo was the fearless leader of the camera team. 'Fearless' refers to him having to put up with 36 hours of Doble screaming in his ear over the wireless. Damo did an awesome job, not only in organising the camera team and keeping everyone in sync, but also filling any gaps where appropriate - any time Nick, JB or myself needed something, Damo was there to fill the void.

The camera team also did an excellent job, you guys showcased your professionalism during the many chaotic sequences during which you were expected to feed us good video despite little instruction or planning. I'd like to extend an official 'job well done' to everyone in the camera team, as without you, our efforts would have been for nought. I appreciate your patience, tenacity and passion for the event. Thank you.

Luke / Sensator

Click the image to open in full size.

Our graphics and video controller, Luke has been working with Jetstream for the last few events but at WCS Sydney he really showed his abilities. Luke took full control of our video mixing system and did an awesome job throughout the event. When he wasn't working on the live mixing, he was preparing graphics such as overlays, score updates, and 'coming soon' information for our stream. Luke gave it his all and I was very proud to see him achieve his potential while contributing hugely to our event. Great job dude, keep it up.

Blair / Scythah

Click the image to open in full size.

Besides having an amazing beard, Blair was our primary video controller, a veteran of many ACL and Lansmash events, Blair is accustomed to the task of taking on a variety of video sources, working with audio such as microphones and music, and producing a slick, professional and awesome-looking final product.

A keen fan of Starcraft 2, Blair has an established understanding of the timing and rhythm of a SC2 game, and as such is able to provide live video editing which flows with the game, without interrupting the battle or frustrating the audience.

Blair always remains cool under pressure, and is always focused, alert and keen to perform at his best - it is he who ultimately produces what the stream sees, and he does a mighty fine job of it. Thanks so much Blair.

Josh / Inmaniac

Click the image to open in full size.

There's a saying at ACL - if you want something done, give it to Josh.
In the case of WCS Sydney, Josh was running in overdrive! Everything from organizing players, to looking after our celebrity casters, to editing audio files, to purchasing last-minute equipment, cables and accessories, to feeding the team, and everything in-between, Josh was there to carry the weight of a tired, overworked and frustrated ACL team. Without flinching he threw himself at whatever challenge we asked of him and delivered results every time. Thanks so much Josh, you did a great job.

Derek / Dox

Click the image to open in full size.

Not much hasn't been said about the SC2SEA community superman - Dox ran a tight ship for our tournament, and was a big help in organizing players and keeping us on schedule. As always, thanks for your tireless contribution to eSports in Australia Dox. He's a ******* dragon people!

Infeza / Phil

Click the image to open in full size.

Infeza's spectating brought our event to the next level. His work made the international casters feel at home, the specetators understood the game, and he never missed a beat in over 3 days of spectating world-class games. Infeza almost never took a break, peferring to stay with the Stream Team for the entirety of the event. Putting up with my shouting and hollering, Infeza was always calm and communicative during game creation, and let us know immediately of any problems - allowing us to radio the 'tech squad' and have any IT issues resolved for the players.

Infeza's spectating has been recognized as world-class not only by our international casters, but also by the community, and we are very fortunate to have him working as part of WCS. Thank you so much Phil - you did a great job!

Maynarde

Click the image to open in full size.

Maynarde, who could have asked for a better MC? Witty, charismatic, cool and oh-so-passionate, Maynarde guided WCS Sydney through some of it's roughest patches. Hype the crowd? No problem! Wanna make an announcement? Maynarde can do it! Giveaways? How about an impromptu ******* DANCE COMPETITION?!!? yeah, thats right.

Featuring such famous quotes as "One for you, and you, and you, and you!" and .. "What do you think about that crowd?! ... WHAT ABOUT YOU, STREAM?!?!" -- Maynarde lended a perfect dose of Australian spirit to our production, and stayed with it till the end. I still remember seeing him with dark, dark rings under his eyes on Saturday at around 10:00pm while being asked to 'get hype' for the next game. Sure enough, you wouldn't know once he got on stage. Maynarde is a true showman and deserves every bit of accolade this community awards him.

Nick Vanzetti

Click the image to open in full size.

If there is one thing that you could say about Nick, it's that he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. In this case, he took on the enormous challenge of hosting the Blizzard WCS in Australia. Not only were the expectations of the SC2SEA community riding hard, but the pressure for ACLpro to perform was enormous. Nick has worked tirelessly for many months, fighting to win the contract from Blizzard to host the event, and then to prove that he and ACL are worthy of the contract. As of WCS Sydney I think there is no doubt in anyone's minds that ACL can deliver on their promises. Well done Nick!

Shoutcasters

Click the image to open in full size.

Thank you to our international casters - HDstarcraft, Painuser, Tasteless and Artosis for being so enthusiastic and passionate about our SC2 scene. You guys were great to hang out with, and I was so pleased to see that you were genuinely interested in Australian culture as well as aussie SC2 players - we thoroughly enjoyed your casting and can't wait to invite you back to Australia for our next event!

JB / Blade

Click the image to open in full size.

Jetstream's Supreme Commander, master of Lansmash, all-round nice guy, dishes washed, grass mowed, gutters cleaned. JB is the glue that keeps the Stream-Team together. A supporter of Nick and ACLpro, JB works behind the scenes to ensure that every event is a success, bringing his extensive IT, system administration and problem solving abilities to bear. If there's a problem tough enough, chances are it will find it's way to JB.

As well as driving from Brisbane to Sydney and back to move equipment - during the event, JB handled everything from streaming issues, to audio problems, to player PC issues, to camera problems, to management issues ... and so on.

JB is the Optimus Prime of Jetstream and we are very proud of our achievements under his command - if you ever see him in public, give a cheer and thank him for his efforts - as you never know when your event or tournament may benefit from his work.

Last but not least -

The players & Audience

Click the image to open in full size.

Without you, all of our efforts would have been pointless. Having a packed venue with a roaring crowd, passionate players fighting for supremacy and stories forged throughout the weekend, THAT is what eSports is all about! I'm so proud of this community to make the effort to support and promote this tournament - keep it up and put Australia on the map in the eSports scene!

One last note from me -

Thank you to everyone whom I met during the weekend
Thank you Dox for running the tournament and managing players
Thank you Chaddman and Champi for managing players pre and post-game.
Thank you to the camera team for doing such a great job and capturing so many great moments
Thank you Simon for working so hard pre-event, producing some amazing lighting for our stage, and your awesome photography as always,
Thank you to Blair and Luke for your excellent video and graphics work
Thank you to Josh for being the facilitator for the stream team and ACL.
Thank you to Nick for putting up with my perfectionist attitude, and pulling everything together
Thank you to JB for taking the load off the stream team and letting us focus on the job at hand.
Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes who I may not have mentioned here - you guys are what keeps events like this together, and everyone - organisers, players and spectators included appreciate your efforts to deliver this amazing event. Well done.

I am massively proud to say that I was the director of this amazing, improbable, heartwarming, incredible, exhilarating event, and I can't wait for the next one.

See you all on the flip side!
