Gonna try play more SEA this season and aim for top 20 GM, not really too fond of a goal like that since you can only control how much you practice not how fast you improve. Would definitely be satisfied if i got top 20 though!
gl to everyone else and if your goal is a certain league don't get too sad about not achieving it, just be happy that you're practicing the amount that you want to
I'm just annoyed cause my aim for last season was to get to diamond on sea and I put more effort in than I have before and didn't make it. I know the placement doesn't matter, but I was like 90% sure I would get promo. It's demoralizing knowing I have to ladder my account back up to the top to try get promo again

It's not a matter of points mate. It's a matter of win ratio. Pretty sure those rough numbers blizzard say will get you a promotion is a rough average of ~60% win ratio just using all your bonus pool with the kind of matchups you'll get with that ratio. So provided you win at that rate and keep up beating diamonds, you'll be promoted without a set number of points.

Lol I said it 3 times in chat - you don't need to "level up to the top" - your MMR is the same as it was before. Placement match can be important, but only if you are in the right situation with your MMR range
Finished at rank 9 . Was rank 4 previously. Disappointed that i missed out on the top 8 achievement. Should've continued playing just before the season ended. Definitely aiming for by mid season.

Yeah, I also maintained my top 8 diamond for the first half or so of the season (and solid rank 1 for a bit of that). Then I tanked a lot mid-season and dropped to around rank 40-50. I think I ended somewhere around 13-14 in Diamond. Also gunning for masters ASAP...
But... Forever diamond, ftw.

You will probably get promoted in a few games.
i dont think ive ever heard of someone being promoted unless theyre at least in top ten of the division unless they have like 80-90% win ratio though. i know ive personally never been promoted outside the top 5?

Well last week i was bronze.... and yesterday i was masters..so according to my calculations, if i do my placement tonight i should be roughly... lightning league
Season 5, although I was no where near laddering hardcore, I reached my set goals of top 8 Korea and 1st in my NA masters division (didn't bother to try get into NA GM late in the season, nearly impossible.)
With Season 6 and some nice new maps, I got my goals set already:
Korea - Top 6 Masters
NA - Top 100 GM
SEA - Top 20 GM (i find it hard to bother on SEA so this wouldn't be bad)
I have never been a hardcore ladderer but if I can achieve all of these I would consider it a success .
