New South East Asia GW2 Guild
In preparation for GW2, I am potentially interested in starting a guild. However, before getting too far ahead of myself, I would like to get a feel for who would be interested in joining a SEA based guild and, if so, what sort of role you would like to play within the group.
If you are interested in joining a guild like this, please can you select which role you see yourself being interested in/ fulfilling
According to Guild Wars 2 Wiki, each guild can organize members into up to ten ranks, and can customize the titles and the permissions for each group. The kind of model I am thinking of is one where the GM delegates as much as possible to the different groups responsible for their activity area. Although micro-management does have its advantages, overall I much prefer an approach that empowers people to conduct themselves in a responsible way and only “step in” if things go pear-shaped or I can see the potential for trouble ahead. With this in mind please see the descriptors of what I have in mind below (officer titles and roles can be changed as needed):
Co GM
Due to the reality of not being able to be available full time (e.g. family, job, life, etc.), it is very important to have someone who can take over whenever needed. This person should have the following qualities: Mature, rational, preferably have team leading experience, understand “process” when dealing with situations, and good communication possess fair and consistent decision making skills. I could be interested in this position if someone else is really keen on taking over as GM.
Recruitment Officer
This role is very important because someone needs to take charge of screening and recruiting potential members. In the beginning this would involve finding good quality members in the first place, but later on, if there is a specific need this would become this persons responsibility.
IT
Someone with good IT skills is important, and anything involving websites, forums, signup processes would fit into this position.
Public Awareness/ Marketing
The guild’s vision, name, colours and how people become aware of and attracted to the guild should be developed from this role.
Finance Officer
Although I am not familiar with how complicated it will be to manage any common loot acquired by the guild, I think someone should be in charge of making sure that any loot or other items are fairly distributed amongst the members. This person would be responsible for creating the guide/ system for determining who gets what and when from any common stash.
Profession Officers
Each profession would need a profession specific leader who understands their class and is interested in helping others in their class improve/ progress. This role would include advising/ managing members that play the same profession as them.
Group Leaders
Members who are particularly skilled at different aspects of the game should be good choices for this type of role (e.g. PvE or PvP). This role would include advising/ managing members that need specific advice relating to the type of activity they are leading.
Members
This is where the bulk of people are going to fit in. For me personally, I would like to be in a guild that is taking on high end content and attracts the best players on the server. However, achieving this needs to be done in a way that does not force its members into prioritizing their “in game” life over “real life”. There needs to be a balance between high levels of success and prestige, and not feeling like the game is taking over your life.
