+1 to what iaguz said

Dox may sound a bit harsh up there but its all for your own good. It will help you think things out thoroughly as he has like 10 years of experience in organizing stuff. Have a talk with him privately and then update the original post to include all the essential information.

As people have mentioned above, more tournaments are always nice but remember bad ones end up hurting the scene instead of growing it.

ok guys i have received emails back from some BIG names in the Computer/Digital world now i need your help i really want to get this event off the ground and promote E-Sports in australia so what i need you to do is click the link share the link reply to it really important we get this out there cheers WCS

Source

More detail?
my facebook post was more directed at friends as for what i sent to GOM i sent them an outline of the tournament makeup 128 competitors outlining the winners and loosers bracket i also provided them with the current majour sponser we are working with and the buisness plan i was also upfront with them and explained that i am looking to the comunity to make sure its an event that will continue in the future before locking anything in and they were more than happy to provide the information i needed

Sorry but it won't work and someone is going to lose alot of money if you try.. on that note, if you attempt to gain financial backing - good luck. No one in Australia will put the kind of money you will need behind an event in Australia.

The future for growing eSports in Aus, is events like ACL.. start small, become bigger. You can't just throw out a massive event and expect it to work.
Good luck tho...
as i said its a long term goal i obviously am not expecting it to be the case right away
and its my money i am outlaying to start with so if it looses its on me
as for no one backing an australian event there you are wrong i already have people interest and am drawing up proposals as we speak this was not a troll the thread was simply established to get ideas and thoughts from the comunity have i commited to GOM no am i looking at other options yes this thread is to gauge interest and for me to put in place a buisness plan that will include a structure for an event that competitors and observers can en joy

i'm sure you have the best of intentions but you seriously need to understand ...

so many people in "eSports" have invested thousands of dollars and hours only to see their efforts burn in flames for nothing.

gamers aren't kids anymore. we're a little older, a little wiser and a little more skeptical of everything that comes along. there's nothing wrong with that - it's just that people have now grown past 18 year olds running everything and are now used to injecting a modicum of professionalism (typically acquired from working in jobs, studying at university etc) in their events.

that explains why everyone's been fairly reluctant to jump into bed with you so far, metaphorically speaking.

i really hope this event turns out well. i don't care if it's not the dreamhack of australia - as long as it's a well-run tournament that's above board i'm sure everyone will be happy. dox and mayo have probably already given you a heads up as to what people expect and probably a better indication of how to go about things in the future.

everyone wants to support you. we really do. the more events the better. but when you come and make a post that has no punctuation, no details and 100% platitudes, everyone tends to get a bit edgy. don't take it personally, it's just that people are a bit more cautious these days.

yep i understand that i actualy already had an outline but as i stated what i wanted from teh community was a investemnt of time nothing more just tell me what it is you would like from an event if it was to be held over a couple of days i am fully aware of the community wanting to support the event and i am investing a lot of money into the event from my own pocket thats why i am been very cautious with what i do and dont advertise as i dont want to promis anything then have it not happen and have to cover the cost so i right now i am just after feedback to what makes a good event from there ill go back to the buisness plan to make sure i have the best posible oportunity for a continued event and to get the best possible support from companies

What I believe makes a good event!

CASTERS: At ACL having live casters there in Maynarde and Doble was freaking awesome!

A LOT OF CAMERAS/FOOTAGE: Getting a lot of interviews, having people asking questions, generating content, all that good stuff.

HYPE: The one thing I believe was missing from ACL was the hype surrounding the event. Prior to an event you need write-ups with a brief intro into every player so you can get to know them and have an emotional investment so you can see how they do in the tournament, also lets overseas spectators get to know the relatively unknown sea scene if it gets posted on international forums such as team liquid.

PRIZES: It was relatively unknown (from my experience atleast) what the exact prizes were for ACL up until about a week prior to the event(Btw I'm not bashing ACL by comparing them to what could be better, acl was freaking awesome its just the only major live event ive been to ), So listing prizes (and having them preferably bigger) would be good

INTERNATIONAL NAMES: I Know personally I get no bigger satisfaction than hearing when a SEA player beats some top NA or KR or EU player, so while it will be extremely difficult if you could manage to get some big international foreign players down that would help promote the SEA scene and most likely the publicity of the event A LOT which in turn will generate you income.

Good stream quality/coverage: Ensuring Stream is advertised well so lots of people can view it (being featured on team liquid is one example) and ensuring good stream quality is a must.

Being run on time: A lot of LAN events generally go over time and this can force players to be tired, but also hinders how much people watch the event on stream since if there is downtime for an hour they will most likely leave and miss future matches perhaps, So ensuring there is always content/important matches being shown can only be good.

These are all the ones I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure people will come up with others! I sincerely hope your massive dream comes through, the SEA scene is there to be exposed for the awesomeness that it is so we need to do something about it and get ourselves out there so goodluck!!

This is good feedback, I'll work on the hype next time around, thanks!! :D

If having CSN interview most of the top players in Aus is not good enough hype for a SEA tourney IDK what is haha. But i agree with everything you say except partly the one about international players. I like seeing them in international tournaments but when for example Ace came and made all our monies belong to him it was kinda shitty for me personally.

Whatever.... noone really gives a damn how much money a SEA player wins if they don't have to beat someone they know of in order to do so. I'd rather PiG or Iaguz or someone gets the prize money to help support them as they try to make a living representing SEA eSports, but if they are serious, then they probably want a chance to get into the international scene... getting a few good players out here to challenge our guys should be fun. And we certainly have players capable of upsetting almost anyone in the world.

Yea exactly I just rather see it at places like IEM. For instance glade beating huk, targa nearly 2-0'ing MMA etc etc.

Was that the pig thing? if it was totally forgot about that LOL, oh wait also forgot about dox's thing as well herp derp lol, but still a writeup with a lot of the lesser known players would have been cool ^_^.
and yeah it sucked when ace came down but how awesome would it have been if he came down and someone beat him ya know? especially since a big thing of that tourny was that light n someone else (was it mafia?) took a map off him. But yeh just ideas n i seriously hope this event goes down!

My take on the weekend results:

Targa didn't get out of his group (but he did play well, admittedly).
Moonglade won the biggest SEA event since he won the the WCG Aus Qualifier, and the Blizzcon qualifier.

It doesn't really serve to show any different to the prevailing international opinion that glade is the only real threat to have come out of SEA.

By bringing players here rather than sending our guys over to IEM we have greater chances. First of all, the international players have to slog through an entire bracket of local competition. And they are the ones jetlagged in a foreign country... Especially with the lack of local sponsorship (for sending players internationally) we have trouble even finding a candidate to go to some IEM events.

Quick Comments
 SLCN.Kez:
Totally agree, all forgein players are belong to us!

Just a little bump to keep this thread in the eyes of the community. I initiated e-mail contact with WCS today, so hopefully something emerges soon enough.
