Points from the Online round will stack on top of Regionals results, however Regionals will have a higher weighting.
100% of points distribution = Regionals LAN events
60% of points distribution = Online Rounds
I'm very sorry its taken us a while, but a full structure page will be written up which addresses these questions, it will then live here: http://www.aclpro.com.au/procircuit/rules-structure
I'm sure you can understand (from looking at Halo, Fifa etc) that these documents take considerable time to prepare. We were also testing how well the Swiss system was received, and will confirm that for all Regionals events from this stage onwards
Not necessarily, although ever since announcement (and even now) the events were labelled 'qualifiers' by Dox. A few determining factors will come into play.
- The number of players invited to a national event (still being locked in)
- Whether a higher seeded player chooses to attend the national event (If 6 of the top seeded players choose not to attend, the invite list will be extended further down the rankings)
- Some regionals players may not compete online
This will obviously affect the first national event of the season. Live events are what ACL is all about, and they cost money to run. We reward those members of the community who support them! Both Brisbane and Melbourne we went into the red to run these, and ever since inception of the circuit LAN results have bore more weighting. For Halo/CoD/Fifa - Online is only 40% weighting.
Just to be clear, the ACL points system for SC2 is still under construction and nothing is final. Vanz, JB and I will be meeting this weekend to discuss distribution to ensure the most fair and rewarding environment.
The three key points I'm currently focusing on are:
People who live in an area with no regional qualifier (ie. Yang - Perth postponed).
People who are unable to attend a regional event (ie. YoonYJ) but participate Online.
People who suffer from a stacked event in their regional (ie. EdgE & Bielsko).
Some of the ideas floating around in my head currently, is to reward people like Yang, YoonYJ, Bielsko and EdgE bonus participation points since they're stuck in situations beyond their control. But we just need to explore all our options and consider all the angles before we commit to something. We'll have something ironed out and detailed by the end of the year.
Yeah, I was worried about is Deth/Yoon who couldn't attend their qualifiers, but mainly yang who literally has no qualifier which is completely out of his control and missed wcg aus for a similar reason .
I completely understand you guys have been running ACL for a long time and I'm super stoked about sc2 getting included, and I 100% intend this only to be constructive and a suggestion, but perhaps a format like:
3 from each states qualifier (Melb, Syd, Bris & Adelaide), with the online tournament being held last of all with 4 places rounding out a top 16 for the ACL nationals (or similar system)
Using a model like this it's still INCREDIBLY in your favor to attend a local event. as fighting it out with the whole of Australia compared to fighting it out with only your local scene is a much, much harder way to qualify for the tournament. I feel like this format succeeds in both promoting the local lan comps whilst making it fair for the people who dox listed that are at a huge disadvantage with the current proposal. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to charge for the online competition too and would give a chance to recoup some losses from the lan events?
Anyway, I know we're in good hands between all the guys running this so whatever ends up happening just don't forgot about the guys who have literally no chance of playing in the regionals because of whatever reasons!

it doesn't just favour people who attend local events, but those with the wherewithal to attend multiple events like glade (who competed in brisbane one day, sydney the next and now is going to adelaide next weekend).
andy would have qualified anyway, but people who just rock up to the online qualifier stand no chance against people who can play multiple quals.
the only equitable solution is to introduce some form of diminishing returns; you can still earn points at each qualifier, but you earn substantially less for each event you attend. just a thought.

I think I'm misunderstanding your post, 'cos in the current format, you only get points from your best regional - not all of them. Andy will not receive points for Brisbane and Adelaide.
