When is the team getting Jerseys? When and where can i buy one?
Was hoping to have them by now, but sponsors are slowing us down. We don't have any "non-personalised" designs at the moment, but it's definitely something I'll happily look into for the future!
The 5th addition to the line up is "Bloodmyst" who as of late has proved to be a forced to be reckoned with! Over time he has proved to be a solid Terran within the SEA community and will show at the next MLG what Australia can bring to the table!
Gotta admit, the announcement of a Zerg was midleading huh? Gotcha all!
There's a few layers here. Let's strip out the letters, first.
E
Y
Now we're left with what? 14221102? 14, 22, 11, 02?
Let's check the corresponding alphabetical letters for these numbers.
14 = N
22 = V
11 = K
02 = B
Now the K and the B are irrelevant. Let's look at the original string again, with our new information.
14[ENV]02[Y]
ENVY? 1402? Could this be a date? The 14th of February?
But if we look at the Hex code for 14E221... it reveals the colour "Green." The colour green is most commonly associated with two connotations - Growth, and ENVY.
The image was also contained in a folder named "CIRCE", to begin a trail of breadcrumbs to a Wikipedia page.
Once again, if we take these numbers and apply the alphabetical correspondence, we get a list of interesting letters.
By taking the filename of this image (SALAGIA.jpg) and performing a simple Google search, the 7 Deadly Sins Wiki page is at the top of the list. Quickly scrolling through this wiki will reveal that these letters represent the Modern definitions of the traditional Seven Deadly Sins.
L --- Lust
G --- Gluttony
G --- Greed
S --- Sloth
A --- Acedia
W --- Wrath
E --- Envy
P --- Pride
V --- Vainglory
Of course, the number 5 was highlighted - directing your attention toward ENVY.
I was just going to post the silhouette of deth, but I thought it might be a bit underwhelming. I mean, we're already on the 7 Deadly Sins theme, so is the name "deth" just another reference? Or he is he somehow involved?
Either way, I went ahead and embedded two images in the single clue. I cut holes out of the image to suggest that there was something hidden underneath the silhouette.
And thus we had "HUMANitas.jpg" and "VioletOcean.jpg", both residing within the previously "locked" folder: Temperantia.
Temperantia was merely another reference to the 7 Deadly Sins. I really wanted to drive this home so people had a good "base" to start looking for clues, because only one or two people had briefly grazed over the suggestion of Envy at this point.
HUMANitas was another reference, whilst also leading suggestion towards the word "HUMAN", which I hoped would direct people away from an "event" and more about a person, or people. I would revisit this capitalisation with another clue later on.
The second file - VioletOcean was something I injected because surprisingly, people still hadn't figured out the date of the announcement, despite it being in the first clue. Each calendar month is represented by a flower, and February's flower is the Violet. As for "Ocean", this served two purposes. One - I wanted people to begin associating the clues with the sea, or SEA. And of course, the famous film - Oceans 11 - allows these two words combined to represent the announcement date - February 11. Unfortunately no-one was able to draw this conclusion, so I was forced to deliver another clue later on. As for the actual graphic, I included "Ὀργή" - which is Greek for "Wrath" - to keep people on the 7 Deadly Sins trail.
At this stage, people had pretty much nailed it down. Lots of people knew it was going to be a new team, and someone even suggested that it would be called Invidia. So I figured I'd throw out a silhouette of Pinder to confirm peoples suspicions. Lots of red, an ex-ArcMSI member, and now Pinder as well? It was too obvious. But would I really make it that simple? People started second guessing themselves. It was actually a lot of fun to watch.
As for the numbers, this one was quite easy. I took the first letter of each team members' name and extracted their corresponding number. Each time you see a "1" or "2", you assume it's a two digit number, not the letter A or B.
So most people saw this:
AFBEAHACD
When they should have been seeing this:
PYRMD (Pinder, YoonYJ, Rossi, mOOnGLaDe, deth)
Furthermore, I capitalised the letters "ID" in the filename (prIDe.jpg) to suggest that this image had something to do with names. Looking back at clue #4 and combining it with this one, we get "HUMAN ID." Nothing terribly helpful or informative, but we can't make it too obvious now, can we?
The image was hosted in a folder named "ANGEALTHUNDER." This one was a lot of fun. You see, Angeal is a character from the Final Fantasy 7 franchise. He was actually Zack Fair's mentor and best friend - the original wielder of the Buster Sword, before it was passed down to Zack, and eventually Cloud Strife. But what's important here, is that all of Angeal's attacks in FF7: Crisis Core, are based on the 7 Deadly Sins. The fact that I included "Thunder" in the folder name was enough to point people towards one special attack in particular: Thunder of ENVY.
#6 Live stream (Unfortunately it's no longer on my twitch account)
By this point, I'd already created Battle.net accounts for some of the guys on the team, and within 5 hours of laddering, they had achieved GrandMaster on SEA. Strangely enough, people still hadn't correctly figured out the date of the announcement, despite my attempts to put it out there. So I fired up my stream and played an audio file whilst scrolling through the grandmaster ranks of SEA. The audio file is a brilliant speech which was used to promote the upcoming FA Cup Soccer match between Liverpool & Manchester United on February 11th, 2012.
(Can't seem to find the original file, but here's a very similar one - only one second difference)
Here is an extract of the audio, I think it's really quite awesome. Very fitting for a competitive strategy environment.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first move requires no pieces
It is the look in the eyes of your opponent
The iron gaze of a warrior
The frozen stare of a man possessed
The piercing glare of a champion
Feel his years
A life time of hunger, hope, trifles and triumphs
Search his heart for fear
Show him none in return
No single piece can win a match
Combine several
Move them in concert
And behold a synchronized symphony of force
Push forward
Attack
Retreat
Or is it a trick?
A ruse to draw out the opposition.
Be watchful - as one avenue closes, another opens. Employ tactics that advance your aims, while perplexing your rival.
Be mindful of time, but do not grant a clock authority over your reason.
Defend with vigour - a skilled adversary is beatable when his movements are restricted and his patterns are exposed.
Tension grinds at the nerves. Emotion can weigh a man down or lift him in the air.
This is a game of kings. It is ballet of the brain.
Choreographed on a wooden slab.
Promise your foe one thing: doom.
Accept only ultimate glory as your prize.
Know that winning and losing ARE black and white.
Master this game, and you will make the final move.
After all have fallen, you will stand alone, crown intact.

Call it co-incidence, but there's actually two layers of clues in this video. The duration of the video is also 2 minutes and 11 seconds. 2:11. February 11th.
So I scrolled through the list of Grandmasters - passing right over a player known as "NvT", who appeared in the GM ranks overnight. It didn't take long before people figured out where the audio had been extracted from, but for some reason no-one gave it much more thought. At this point in time, no-one has identified the relevance or length of the video.
During my broadcast, I titled the video "The Flying Serpent", and selected "Leviathan" as the game I was broadcasting. I've never even seen a game called Leviathan before, but the important part here is that Leviathan was one of the 7 Princes of Hell, representing the sin of ENVY.
Furthermore, the Leviathan is more commonly known as the most formiddable creature of the sea. In this case, the most formiddable entity of SEA.
I went on to insert a highlight in the twitch.tv VOD at the 2:11 mark. The highlight was titled "AOG". These letters correspond to 1, 15 and 7. Phonetically, O could be read as 0, so we'll revert the 15. 1, 0, 7.
107. NvT's Grand Master rank in the video at time of broadcast - as I scrolled past his rank.
Considering how much effort MiLes had put into his investigation, and how right he had been all along, I decided to give him a free clue after we were matched on the ladder. I took a screenshot at the end of the game, but adjusted the in-game clock to read 2:11. Furthermore, I set the replay speed to x2, and you can see I have 11 friends online. After the several hints towards 2/11, people finally managed to recognise it's relevance! The announcement date had been unveiled.
Furthermore, I took the modern spelling of "Leviathan" (LIVYATAN) and used it as the folder name for the screenshot, directing people back to this reference I had raised earlier.
Then there is the title of the screenshot. "Job41_17_25_33.jpg"
In Chapter 41 of the Hebrew Bible, (The book of Job), the Leviathan is described in several passages.
#17: They are joined fast to one another; they cling together and cannot be parted.
#25: When he rises up, the mighty are terrified; they retreat before his thrashing.
#33: Nothing on earth is his equal— a creature without fear.
I felt that these descriptions applied adequately to the team.
So this is it. No more cropping, but a little bit of blurring. What do we see here? We have an image named "schadenfreude.jpg" in a folder called "tt0097737". Schadenfreude is a German word, meaning "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others." Closely connected to Envy. But in this case, it goes a little deeper.
Upon clicking on the image, a link is embedded which returns a single tweet, from an Twitter account named "NvHumanitas" - real name "Leviathan". The tweet is a link to a replay in the same folder. The replay is also named "tt0097737.SC2Replay".
The tt0097737 is the IMDB page ID assigned to the film "Leviathan." It is the first google result listed.
Now back to the jpg. In this picture we can see 5 people. 4 silhouettes have been blurred out, and in front of them, 6 rows of numbers. The numbers "6, 0, 0, 7, 3, 5" are highlighted.
The 735 indicates the length of the replay (7m 35s), played on my smurf account, against a Protoss player on Xel'Naga Caverns. The 600 suggests that the user should pause the game at the 6 minute mark, and pay close attention to the replay. Upon pausing the game and selecting a curiously positioned bunch of drones off to the side of the map, a series of waypoints are revealed - spelling out a name. YOONYJ.
As of 11:00PM 01/02/12, "NvT" is ranked 25th on the SEA GM ladder - just a few ranks below TtPiG, xGKingMaFia and SQLTtSenSei.
This one was the big hint to mOOnGLaDe. The folder is named "siNDwELLEr" - a well known Demon Hunter in WarCraft lore. The only letters capitalised are the same ones that appear in mOOnGLaDe's ID. As for lEOtHErAs.jpg, this is yet another well known Demon Hunter from WarCraft. Both of these clues point towards mOOnGLaDe, as his signature hero throughout years of WarCraft 3 dominance was the Demon Hunter. Furthermore, the capitalisation of lEOtHErAs matches mOOnGLaDe.
Furthermore, if you were to zoom in on the inner curve of the letter "N", you'll see the letters "DA" very well concealed amongst the blue. So that's "DA" IN "VIDIA", carefully spelling out David, and revealing Rossi as one of the members.
The silhouette is YoonYJ at the WCG Australia 2012 Finals, you can find that photo on our Facebook page.
As for the digits, I added 1, 5 and T to the original string of numbers and letters, which when mashed together with the existing "Nv" gave you NvT and the number 15 - YoonYJ's rank at the time of posting.
As a pure co-incidence, a band with the same name as the team decided to follow me on twitter. I edited their 2nd series of numbers to spell out Michaelangelo, and added a ninja turtle silhouette. This pointed the focus back to Rossi.
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
