I wasn't very happy with the game throughout levels 1-8. It was a giant clusterfuck. Then I got to level 14 and wrapped my head around the crafting system. That shit is SICK. Once you start crafting yourself some gear, you become a ******* juggernaut capable of solo'ing group event bosses. By the time I got to level 18 the game had become an absolute joy to play. Unfortunately the client has crashed so many times over the last 2 days that I can't login any of my 3 characters. But oh well, the beta ends in like half an hour anyway.
I never gave the crafting much of a look. It looked pretty interesting from what I did see but couldn't be bothered to try and find the ingredients to actually use it haha.

I am greatly looking forward to see what they do change for the next beta weekend. I'm hoping the game is in a very different state when it rolls around.
I played both a Thief (Lvl 22) and a Engineer (Lvl 13) Enjoyed both, but had more fun on the Thief. (Obviously)
I tried to try my hand at as many different aspects of the game as I could, so here goes;
Personal Story;
- Honestly, I found the personal story to be a little dry, I felt like the reasons the game was giving me to accomplish these personal tasks were a little weak. Although the game caps your story at about the level 20 mark, so I haven't seen the story past there.
I'm hoping that like any good tales of Heroes it will draw me in as I keep going. Give me reasons to want to save Tyria, Defeat evil dragons, etc
Dynamic Events;
- These I enjoyed immensely, however I found several issues in regards to difficulty. It got to a stage where I was being leveled-down to the 10-11 mark and still couldn't kill a level 10 Champion dude...
There were others where Cannons and Trebuchets (Sp?) are pounding at you, with NPC mobs trying to kill you and there's just TOO much stuff you NEED to dodge...and not enough endurance.
These moments may have even been a little easier on me as a Thief, as mobility is your greatest weapon and you have many tools to achieve that.
Overall, I think the Dynamic Event's model for questing was MUCH better than the traditional Quest-Hub based stuff from games like WoW.
There were moments when I was just exploring and NPC's would run up to me yelling stuff like "Legionnaire, Blah Blah town is under attack, we could use you're help!" and after following them I would find a town with dead people everywhere and Giants/Centaurs, etc attacking the place. Made the world feel very alive to me, since stuff happens even when your not there to see it.
Example: You head to village, repair gear and sell some items w/e, then go do a dynamic event, only to return to that same town and find it in flames and bandits everywhere.
They ended the beta with a special Dynamic event wherein I was killed by a deer...not even like a zombie evil deer from Hell, just a regular old deer.../sigh stupid animals...
PvP/WvWvW;
This was baller! Unfortunately, Sea of Sorrows was full so I couldn't get on with the TA/SC2sea guys, and my realm was pretty underpopulated from what I can tell. However it impressed me because you don't need a massive Zerg of players to achieve stuff. Myself and my gf managed to take several supply depots on our own. However, for things like the Fort's and Keep's you would need many players. And some siege engines...or that door will take HOURS to kill.
The structured PvP was fun. Except there were soooo many issues with balancing. There were a few where I would jump into the Battleground find myself alone on the blue team against 2 - 3 other players...
The game does balance out the teams automatically, however every time that happened it was WAY too late to make a come back.
Crafting;
They've made some head-way here. I now don't have to stand around for 20mins forging bronze bars. Unfortunately the UI for crafting was a little tricky, and much of it seems to be experimentation. Similar to Skyrim, where you mix a bunch of random ingredients and if you get something good you learn the recipe.
Most of the gear I was able to craft though was substantially better than what I was finding or able to buy with Karma.
Will have to look more at crafting next beta.
Overall Impressions;
Overall I think it's an excellent MMO that takes some time and skill to be good at. I died heaps at the start cause I tried to play just like I play WoW, stand here spam buttons...Which doesn't work in GW2.
If I learnt one thing from the BWE, it's that mobility is King, and standing still will only get you killed.
I'll certainly be playing on release.

Has anyone pre-ordered this off their official website? I'd rather do that and just get it digitally than get it from EB. Just wondering if the one on their site is this region or w/e.
I'm also on the edge of pre-purchasing to get into Beta over the weekend. Kinda tired of playing D3 by myself (QQ i know) - and this seems ok so far. Still don't know if I should or not!
I like the sound of the changes theyve made so far http://www.arena.net/blog/the-big-beta-weekend-preview , looks good. i dont wanna spoilt too much of the game itself, so i'll probably only play an hour or two this weekend.
PS - holy crap that steelseries gear loooks baaaaaaaaad, they couldve done so much better with it IMO
How is this part of your planning forging ahead? I will be getting this as an early father's day present! I'll have to be sociable on actual Father's day though!!! Imagine: "Happy father's day dad - let's do something with the family. Me: Bugger off, I'm trying to play a game here!!"
