I am thinking SC2SEA should hold a week of nostalgic tournaments for the fun of it. As our community is made up of many gamers from past games (check out the epic gaming history thread!), this will be a fantastic way to look back on previous games and relive some past memories for one week.
When - This will be held in roughly 2-3 months, which is the time period when D3 has been released and the hype has died down and the SEA Star League has finished. This is will also allow gamers ample time to train up on their favourite games to become a SC2SEA CHAMPION!!!!
Prizes - Each champion will win the title of SC2SEA champion of the respective game(appears below your forum name) AND a SC2SEA champion achievement. As of now there are no prizes other then that as this tournament is just supposed to be in good spirits and fun. However, if you like to contribute to make the competition stiffer, feel free to send me a PM.
i.e mOOnGLaDe
SC2SEA Champion of Warcraft 3
Format of games - This is not a league. Each tournament will be short and sweet and be carried out over single day. Format will be Bo3, double elimination and by the standard rules used in todays competitive scene.
Eligibility - members of the SC2SEA community. We want the winners to be from our region / site not someone random we do not know from a far away land.
OFFICIAL NOSTALGIA WEEK GAMES
Monday: ???
Tuesday: ???
Wednesday: Age of Empires 2
Thursday: Quake Live
Friday: Warcraft 3 - The Frozen Throne
Saturday: Starcraft 1 - Brood War
Sunday: SC2SEA Race Wars 2012
Captains for Race Wars at this point look likely to be mOOnGLaDe (last years captain - pretty sure he will confirm again!) Light (last years captain pretty sure he will confirm again!) Rossi (confirmed)
Of course this is pending on them choosing to accept and captain the team. Yes I know Starcraft 2 is not nostalgic.... yet!
Donations, Help, Admins and Feedback
Donations: If you would like to donate to the prize pool, send me a PM. This is just a fun tournament but who knows, the competition might heat up!
Help: Would love to have some custom achievement badges done up for the winners. Any budding artists now is your time to shine!! Post your artwork in this thread!
Admins: No one has confirmed yet but these are who I have in mind.
Monday - Wednesday is still available, so we have space for 3 more games. Criteria for selecting games will be
Popularity with SC2SEA members
Easy to get access to game (SC1/MTG is free, for e.g)
Can be played as a 1v1 competitively i.e not broken games.
They can be anything from Mario Kart to Snake to Line Tower Defense to Age of Empires. If you have any suggestions feel free to post them in this thread!
OK so after posting about 10 games in the chatbox my top 5 would be
1. AVP. You know it would be good. Every1 has to play their races counterpart...awesome!
2. Worms...cause WIN
3. Dune 2
4. Stronghold
5. GTA the original....cause whats more fun than running over a 5 pixel person in ur 10 pixel car?
CS 1.6 not counted? WTF is this. I demand a recount/nuclear airstrike on this thread. I'll admin the damn thing, hell, I'll even take a night off work for it.
Damn gotta agree with Eddie - avp2 was so much fun
also splinter cell chaos theory and rainbow six raven shield were some of the most fun I have had multiplayer
Quake live (quake 3) (free)
Counter-strike 1.6 (clans vs clans, im sure every major clan could scrum together 5 players, and for a bit of smack talk, im 100% TA would absolutely rhomp all of you, lol) (Everyone and their mother has 1.6, if not its like $10, lol)
DotA (clans vs clans again) (again, free if you have WC3:TFT, which the other comp assumes u have! Otherwise can easily play over hamachi etc.)
IMO no more old school RTS other than sc:bw and wc3:tft, lets branch out to other genres yo!
Also, just a suggestion (obviously wouldn't include the racewars part since it will be people from every clan in that), why not do it like the olympics (It will actually fall very close to the olympics too)? IE: everybody represents there clans in everything (both the clan vs clans and the 1v1 games), add up medal tallies, and see which clan wins at the end?
eg:
1st/2nd/3rd individual places for WC3 get gold/silver/bronze for their clans
1st/2nd/3rd individual places for SC:BW get gold/silver/bronze for their clans
1st/2nd/3rd clan places for counterstrike 1.6 get gold/silver/bronze for their clans
1st/2nd/3rd individual places for Quake Live get gold/silver/bronze for their clans
1st/2nd/3rd clan places for DotA get gold/silver/bronze for their clans
1st/2nd/3rd individual places for Magic get gold/silver/bronze for their clans
And on the sunday of racewars we announce the winning clans and overall winning clan everyone gets an achievement?
edit: also I think you should reconsider your 'No team games'. I think clan rivalries are the funnest part of our SC2SEA scene personally, i'd love to translate it over to other games (dota/cs 1.6/any other suggestions) and to the overall event .
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

This will probably be an individual based competition so sorry, no CS or DoTA. I'm not sure how many other teams can put together squads and its also for logistical reasons, like you need all 5 members to have a copy of CS, a copy of DOTA, etc and in the end its all just for a single day of competition..... with no prizes, just for fun!
The clan Olympics thing is a nice idea but you gotta consider the other clans in the scene, its going to punish a lot of the newer clans or smaller clans here. Not many clans have a long and illustrious history like TA, many of them are newer with young members don't wish to discourage these clans from participating or not winning anything.
Should be a competition where everyone can feel happy to play in, regardless of clan or people without a clan. The aim of this is just a fun week of nostalgia so we can celebrate our history of gaming as a community as a whole without drawing any lines / boundaries with each other.
Quake 3 now that you mention is free has been added as an official game for the nostalgia week.
Age of Empires 2 has been added as well as many people in this thread seem to love it. That will be the last RTS game.
That means just two more games to add! MTG has been removed as frogmite said its too hard to play online.
Keep up with the great suggestions guys!
Also, anyone who plays in ALL of the games will win an all rounder achievement, regardless of your performance to encourage participation in this event

I'm really confused by this, at least in regards with DOTA, its literally free with wc3 and wc3 is so damn easy to play on illegal server (iCCup for example) that the game is open to absolutely everyone. I also think you'll find between the 20 or so teams that played in SEACL (I think more? Not 100% sure) at least half of those teams would easily field a DotA team. The CS thing i can understand.

I actually don't understand this at all. How is putting in a reward system for the clans to participate discouraging clans to participate?

I completely agree. Everyone should be able to participate, and if you're not part of a clan/team (as mayo said earlier) this would be a perfect reason to join/create one, make friends within the community and grow the community in general. You 100% shouldn't have to be in a clan to participate at all, and any medals racked up by clanless players/pug teams shouldn't and don't have to count towards medal tallies.
Maybe I'm trying to make it into something it shouldn't be. meh.
I like the idea of clan olympics. It wouldn't just be 1v1 games, I assume there'd be all sorts of custom maps and team games played out in it on SC2/WC3/BW and this means even BSG clans have a shot.

Yea I feel the clan Olympics should be something else entirely. And perhaps it should just be limited to Starcraft 2 to give all the other clans a fair chance, as i've said not all clans have long histories, many of the clans on sc2sea are new and with young members. For the clan Olympics there can be micro tournaments, Raynor parties, random only tournaments, 2v2s, debris field tournaments, 6v6s etc so players from all skill levels in the clans can participate too. We can do a medal tally in the end. Thats how i see a "clan Olympics" running and i can see it as being tons of fun for all clans on sc2sea to play in.
Its a great idea and a cool concept that can be looked in later, after nostalgia week finishes and would appreciate if this thread stays on course for discussion of nostalgia week, thanks!
Keen to listen to more suggestions on other games we can include.
But, why no CS 1.6?.. or CSS?.. I'm almost certain that there would be enough players for teams - especially with the amount of people mentioning it. and doesn't matter if there are only 4 teams.. thats 20 people that are going to get fun out of this - that is what it is all about! having some fun. While I love the idea of a 'Clan Olympics' and really think it should be something developed in the future - nostalgia week is about having some fun and playing games with everyone, I'll even suggest for the team games like CS that Clans not play together mix up the people of the community and give them a chance to play together and meet new members of this community.
Other games that are boss: Company of Hero's, Day of Defeat, one of the Total War games, Track Mania...? Commander Keen speed run competition?
I am keen for Wednesday through Sunday. That's a lot of good games. I am a little bit disappointed at the Race Wars though. No team? What is this? I call discrimination.
Yeah i think trackmania nations could be a good addition because it's free and have good online multiplayer features.
Hehe, I should probably have elaborated myself. Also, does anyone know what the player limit is in Trackmania? I've played some 20-something player races before.
