Its newer, better and bigger than before. That's right, KMD is coming to SC2SEA with all of the ups and downs that come with it. Rules from TL will transfer over to here, and I hope everybody has a good time!
To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several simple rules;
No reposting of old material unless justified
Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece.
Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
Id like to start this thread by saying that 'BIG BANG ROCKS!'
seriously, they are on top of the world right now. They got up to number 150 on the music charts! Ye thats right boys and girls, OUR music charts. The first korean band with a korean album to make it onto the Australian charts. Their new album alive is brilliant, and compliments their earlier stuff so well. They are considered one of the greatest kpop bands in history, and after this album they have solidified that fact.
this one has been absolutely dominating the charts, inf act all of their top 3: blue, fantastic baby, and bad boy have constantly been winning every competition and chart place in korea and throughout asia. GO BIG BANG!
k-pop is alright.
I like Beast a fair bit (got there limited ed. album)
Pretty Impressed with a couple of Rookie bands that have released stuff in the last couple of months.
B.A.P & NU'EST
I'm another of those poor souls whose musical integrity has been forfeited to the aegyo of SNSD, Kara and many more haha. But something a bit different I'm sure some will appreciate is the Korean 'indie' music scene. Not too easy to find stuff seeing as pretty much all I can understand is hello (안녕) and **** you're ****ing trash (씨발쓰레기새끼야). Special thanks to nRv's Havoc for the korean lessons ^-^.
I'm a pretty large k-pop fan myself I guess. Have been listening to it for over a year now and tend to listen to a lot of groups. And I went to the Kpop Music Festival concert in Sydney on my birthday last year. Got to see SNSD, Secret, Miss A, 4 minute, SISTAR, CN Blue and quite a few others. I'm not particularly biased towards any particular group, but I do have a big Taeyeon bias. ^^
And I have this grooveshark playlist that I'm working on refining over time that is sitting at 1033 songs at the moment. Often I'll put that on when reading articles or playing SC2.
Favorite male band is Big Bang. Love all their songs especially "Lies", "Tonight", "Haru Haru" and "Blue".
some other male bands i follow like Super Junior. Fav songs from them are : "Mr Simple", "Sorry Sorry", "Superman".
Favorite female band is SNSD. Love literally ALL their songs. I actually prefer the older ones like "Gee", "Oh!", "Genie" and "Hoot". "The Boys" is pretty good.
Some other female bands i follow would be T-ARA. Love their songs like "Cry Cry", "Roly Poly", "Lovey Dovey".
Orange Caramel - "Shanghai Romance"
Overall favourite korean artist: IU
Totally love her songs like "Good Day", "Nagging", "You and I"
while youtube commenters try to decipher the meaning of the video. i thought that the book was an important clue and i then found this.
Quote:
Basically, Lee Minki (the one with the book) has committed suicide by taking poison and has (most probably) filmed it. His friend (portrayed by Song Jaerim), relives it and other conversations they had while viewing it.
The book Lee Minki has in hand is John Berger's 'And Our Faces, My Heart, Brief as Photos'.
The book is a key to this puzzle - John Berger writes about the images of the dead living on into present thought. The book is in 2 parts: Time & Space. Minki reads the page before and the poem "A view of the Delft" before he takes the poison. The lyric "I wonder if we are sometimes standing in the same memory, I wonder if sometimes, time has stopped for you too" are also clues. Another quote from the overview: "Those who read or listen to our stories see everything as though through a lens. This lens is the secret of narration, and it is ground anew in every story, ground between the temporal and the timeless... In our brief mortal lives, we are grinders of these lenses".
(This is my view from what I could infer and from the information I gathered)

amazing how nell's videos pay attention to such details.
I have been searching for this song for aaages... But could never find it.
- On youtube it had a lot of purple and green lights and seemed to have a live film clip.
- HuK often played it
- The guys voice was very high pitched
- It says 'two thousand and eleven' in a non high pitched followed up by some Korean in the intro.

Nope the high pitched voice is SUPER high pitched and the whole film clip is filled with green and purple in front of a live studio ugh it has been killing me for years xD

Dont want to sound like a hater but my interest in K-pop has dropped to almost flat zero apart from the 'original' k-pop artitst from post 2002 to around 2010. (This includes artists such as DBSK, Big Bang etc)
Why you ask? Well the K-pop entertainment business 5 years ago really did not focus as much on the money as it does in the present 2012. This meant there were more highly skilled k-pop groups back in the early 2000's. Nowadays Korea produces new boy/girl groups like its no-ones business! Last year I forget but I read in an article that over 50 groups made their debut in 2011. That's 1 every week of the year! Anyways nobody will read this but this is my 2-cents for the day in regards to the current meta-game of K-pop LOL
Not most upbeat, and also pretty old, but have been listening to these non-stop all day. Taeyeon's voice gagasfgsfghsdafgkasgfkshdfguafdaifwkduwyhgrfkdsh
For anyone who hasn't seen, G-Dragon is coming out with his own album soon and has dropped a couple of awesome tracks already! Both are very different from each other so love the different styles, I've already thrashed both songs though T.T
hmmmm i am kinda let down by it. I love them singing more ballady songs, and its better than time machine, but the mv needs more of a story, like Seoul did. I mean many of the girls have acting ability, create some sort of story line! And it was a bit of a let down from paparazzi for me. Good song but my expectations have dropped for the new album. Especially after how good the first Japanese album was... [end rant]

Now that I've watched it a few more times it's alright. Sooyoung needs to eat more but my favourite bit is how they have Seohyun wearing an open top and a boob tube in the scene where everyone is sitting down together.
Given I live in Busan and work in a high school here I've heard Gangnam Style more times than I care to count.
Big Bang's: Fantastic Baby, and Monster are pretty popular at the moment, as is pretty much anything by Sistar. Most k-pop I find is fairly stale and either follow the grain of the innocent happy happy/ bounce bounce (Jewelry), or dark, mysterious flacid-jaw-syndrome attempts to be sexy (4-minute).
Sistar pulled off a nice take with their video for Alone, but I've found the less poppy songs pretty rewarding to listen to. Perhaps they seem more appealing because of the monogamy of sounds in regular pop.
Perhaps this doesn't belong here ... but where K-pop is, I imagine J-pop can never be far out of mind. With that in mind, allow me to share one J-pop music video to top the dancing carrot from before. Your move sir.
I find it quite funny that a K-pop group is singing about being independent when they all live in the studio house, in a country where people live with their parents on average until they are 29-33.
Anyway. Music! This song made me angry because of the message involved in it .... basically that a minor can cheat on his girlfriend with an older woman because ..... whatever.
OTL the suits remind me of mr taxi, the little dj reference remind me of genie... the japanese writer for snsd is bloody brilliant, better than i thought considering its title. (^.^)ゞ

I'll admit, IU is one of the singers who made it on pure vocal talent.
I've fallen in love with 4 girls recently. All in the same group. I haven't seen a group break away from their usual mould and do a simple harmonic piece. This song actually shows off their vocals quite a bit. I love it. Helps that all of them are hot as hell too. Sorry there's no music video that isn't live yet though - Matter of time!
And one more I rediscovered the other day. Had the good fortune of seeing these guys live in Seoul at the Olympic stadium. They sound exactly the same live as on the CD and had pretty much everyone in the stadium singing along with them. These guys out-performed f(x) and SNSD (Girls Generation) - Made a fan out of me.
i think this will turn out bad cuz i don't know how to compress link :/ but Merry Christmas Nu'est and Orange Caramel ( former after school members ) sing this one
Right! Since we're at that time now and Ailee's Christmas song just made it on here, I feel I need to remind you that the single greatest way to wake up on Christmas day would be in the presidential suite of the Westin Chosun Hotel in Haeundae, next to all 9 members of Girls Generation dressed like this (or in less).
Recently discovered Dal Shabet (cos one of their songs played on GSL at some point).
Then I saw this music video of theirs while looking for songs.. Jiyul you freaking crazy girl. I actually really like this song too.
Only recently came across these guys, not an actual band but they performed some killer songs! in particularly this one. I seriously hope they get a record contract or something!
