As Jimdiddy and Ninja chose not to attend, the top 8 players from the Open Bracket will now advance to the Pro Playoffs.
By the time we were ready to kick off the opening ceremony, I already had 34 players signed up for our open bracket. I was budgeting for 32, but hey, one extra round couldn't really hurt. We saw my predictions come to light as all of the expected Open Bracket players emerged one by one, even after people like Danmate had an early clash with some tough opposition in the upper bracket, finding himself on a long road back towards the playoffs.
Maynarde and Doble on the desk were brilliant. I would allocate players to computers during each broadcasted game, and line up the next match to be streamed. While this happened, I scribbled down as much information about the player as possible, then passed the piece of paper on to the commentators to let them know what the next game would be, and allow them to share some info about the players with the stream.
We saw stellar performances from all of our open bracket participants - TTneKo, churlz, ali, Danmate, LoSt, Rorscach, Hectic - and of course yang. Some of these guys played as many as 15 games back to back in order to reach the Pro Bracket Playoffs. And when they were told they didn't have to play anymore games until Sunday? They were keen for more bloodshed.
There were several series. iaguz was the only person to take a map from mOOnGLaDe in Group A, as they both emerged from the playoffs. Meanwhile, Pinder (as always) came out of nowhere to steal a map from MaFia - nearly taking the whole series, before falling 1-2.
As far as Sunday goes, I'm hoping we have a similarly sized crowd (if not bigger) full of spectators today as our guys take to the main stage for the first time. Some of the groups have nearly wrapped up already, whilst others still have a few games to be played. We already know that iaguz & mOOnGLaDe will advance from group A, finding themselves on opposite sides of the bracket. We can see that MaFia has nearly flawlessly topped his group, whilst Pinder is looking to emerge in 2nd place. In Group C, Rossi is absolutely killing it, currently standing with a flawless 8-0 map record. His last remaining opponent in the group will be his clanmate SenSei - and this will be the very first game to be broadcasted today at 9:30AM. And finally, in Group D, we see PiG and the Open Bracket Champion yang butting heads with Rorscach to determine who will advance.
So in about 90 minutes, the games will be live once more and as results start flowing in, we'll see exactly who our top 8 players in the championship bracket will be!
