SEA Community Ladder Season 1!
What?
We all love to play Starcraft 2, but get frustrated when we have some massive lose streak on ladder. Some of us like to take part in tournaments for the thrill, or just to be part of some SC2 Ladder competition.
Well, this is it!
I am organizing a 1 month+ season community ladder, where basically players will be matched against each other and get points accordingly, and this will be updated on a ladder table just like any ladder system.
This is not directly affiliated to the website, it's my own initiative at something fun ;D
For who?
I am restricting this to Bronze - Masters players.
Any Prizes?
TBA.
Most likely there will be NO cash prize. Just the pride and glory of dominating SEA Community Ladder! I will work on some coaching incentive of some sort. Anyone interested to offer free coaching is welcome to contact me!
When/How/Details?
Round Robin Stage When:Started! How: Round Robin format (i.e. You'll play everyone else in the ladder). Details: Each week you can expect to play 3-5 matches (depending on # of participants). All results must be reported to me via PM or email (crazerkd3@gmail.com) or simply post in the results thread
You are to contact your opponent and arrange for the game on your own. If your opponent is uncontactable, a walkover may be awarded.
All games must be played and reported by the end of the week. If I don't hear anything from both players, both will be awarded a 'no-show' (-1 ladder point) Maps: For each week, 3 maps will be made available for play. Each player will make one veto, and you will play on the remaining map. The higher ra
nked player will veto first. If your leagues are equal, coinflip. Settle it. All games at this stage are by default Bo1 unless you and your opponent agree to a Bo3/Bo5/Bo31415
Ladder season will climax with a play-off stage after all the round-robin matches have been played, where the top players of the ladder table will compete to be the official winner.
Play-Off Stage When: To be announced How: Bo3, single elimination. Finals Bo5. Details: Will be held on one day like a mini-tournament. Maps: To be announced.
Masters Division This is outdated. Read this instead.
UPDATE: The masters division is currently put on hold, crazerk and I will work something out of his exams. So for players in the masters league, please DO NOT PLAY your games. Basically the prize will be a SC2 Taiwan key sponsored by sc2sea.com and it will be made an official event. We will be testing the sc2sea ladder system as well.
For the non-masters league division everything continues as normally.
By popular demand, I am opening up a ladder as well for Masters League participants in a separate mini ladder for now. Next season we will have better integration, but for now, you guys will compete in a separate ladder from the rest. Requirements: Diamond or low-mid Masters League. If you have a 55-60% and above WR AND you are the top 8 of your division, you are most likely ineligible.
Players playing in the Main Division CAN play in Masters Division, but you must make sure you don't miss any games.
When?
Will start as soon as I hit 20 participants or this Saturday, whichever comes first.
How?
Round Robin format (i.e. You'll play everyone else in the ladder).
The top 8 will qualify for the playoff-stage, which will be a Bo3 single elimination, Bo5 finals.

How do I join?
READ THIS: As the Main Division has already begun, any players below Masters league PLEASE INDICATE if you want to join the waiting list or the Masters Division!
Just post below in this format:
Quote:
Signing up for Masters Division! TheGrayZerg.292 ,Skype: crazerk
IMPORTANT: Please be able to commit to playing 3-5 matches a week, for 4-5 weeks, before signing up.
(if you're going on holiday, refer to FAQ point #4!) Players missing their games 2 weeks in a row without valid reason will be removed from the ladder and banned from future ladders.
- If any disconnects occur within the first two minutes of game-play, the match will be replayed. However if the disconnect occurs after two minutes of game-time, the game can be replayed if both players agree to it. If not, the replay must be submitted to crAzerk who will decide if the game is replayed or a win is awarded to a player.
- Any disputes will be handled by crAzerk after reviewing all associated replays.
- Any inappropriate behaviour will result in a disqualification.
- Players must have their own SEA account, playing on a friends is not allowed
- Players must play the race they registered as and are not allowed to switch races. If a player wishes to choose their match-ups, they must notify me before season commences. (ie. TvP, TvZ, ZvT). If for some reason you want to switch race mid-tournament, you must complete your week's games as well as the next, and only use your new race the following week.
- A win is awarded one point, a loss 0 points, a draw is replayed. A no-show without valid reason results in -1 point.
- Cheating is strictly prohibited. Anyone found to be smurfing/streamcheating/maphacking or cheating in any way will be autodisqualified and banned from future ladders.
1) Isn't it unfair that I, a BSG player, have to compete with the PD players?
Yes, that's why there will be separate criteria to determine qualification for playoffs.
You will still play everyone else in the ladder, just that your points will be compared with those in your skill level.
2)How exactly does the qualification for playoffs work?
Top 4 of the players and Top 4 of the players will qualify for the playoffs.
For the Masters Division, Top 4 of the ladder table will qualify for the playoffs.
Seeding is based on your SEACoL ladder ranking.
3) Are the Main Division and Masters Division playoffs combined? Zomg I'll be fighting Masters League opponents?!
No, they are not combined, and will be held separately, on the same day.
4) I want to join but I'll be on holiday!
I understand that December is the holiday month and you may be away for 1-2 weeks on vacation. If you are interested in joining despite this, please do still indicate your interest, as well as state the exact time period you're away. We may be able to work something out.
5) Can I help with this via casting / coaching / offer prize ?
Of course! Just drop me a PM about it.
6) How do I contact my opponent?
Try to stay in Battle.net chat channel 'SC2SEA' whenever you're online, for the duration of the league! Can always hang out there and chat anyway.
In addition, a player contact list (with Skype) will be sent to all participants before commencement of the tournament to aid this process.
7) I can't contact my opponent!?!!?
Inform me ASAP if after 3 days of the week's commencement your opponent is still MIA. (e.g. Week starts on Monday, by Thursday if you still can't contact your opponent let me know)
8) This whole thing sucks!
Well thanks for reading anyway have a nice day ktnxbai.
9) Why does your portrait not have a nose?
Why does Lord Voldemort not have a nose?
(The bracketed name at the end indicate the player's forum nick, so you know who to PM if you choose to. Those without these have the same forum nick as their IGN)

Thanks for response so far! But most of you are not following the format ! Need your Skype too!
The purpose is so that it's easier to contact each other for your matchups.
If its too personal to give out, send me a PM with your skype. It will only be released to participants so don't worry
@Divinity yea I'll have a look later, as much as I want to let low masters play, I want to try to avoid sheer dominance by these players too
Will update the OP with signups n stuff later whn I get on the comp. keep it coming! (with suggestions too if any)
Updated the OP with signups so far, as well as Rules and Regulations and a few more FAQ.
I'm toying with the idea of having a day of the week, maybe Friday, for an hour, where we stream the 'Games of the Week' or something like that. Basically I will pick 2-3 games that week to be casted. Of course this depends on availability of both players as well as casters. Should I do this?
BSG players don't be afraid to join! You will have a league table of your own to qualify for the playoffs It's all in good fun, and you get to interact with all these nice people from SC2SEA!
It's up to you to arrange with your opponent. I'll probably release the schedule 2 weeks at a time, so try to arrange all your games in advance. If for any reason there's some major schedule clash (in 14 days you can't find a common 30 minutes to just play a match >< ) let me know ASAP.
Could you elaborate? Just Christmas day? or the entire week? Be as specific as possible so that I can plan the schedule around it if necessary.
Updated the OP with a Masters League participants clause, do check it out.
The players below need some action:
1) Blaze - please include your Skype !
2) pukusam - that character id doesn't exist. I've tried both 'pukusam' and 'iRLpuku' 519
3) VBRhuubarb - please provide your Skype
I've also rejected some Masters League players, and personally PMed each of you to explain why. (To try to keep my 'selection criteria' for low Masters secret though it should be fairly obvious)
TAKrunch I'm still considering. Do you ladder on NA?
I'm trying to keep it as balanced as possible so BSG players feel welcome to join!
I put myself as tentative as I don't know if I should include myself in it or not. If we have more than enough players I'll sit out, and also because I'm concerned about dubious situations (in which I will have to call the shots) and people may accuse me of bias or something.
And also please do be committed to play your games every week before signing up, I've added a clause that will remove and ban you from the tournament if you go inactive without valid reason for 2 weeks, to protect the fun of the other players.
Also, I may start the season earlier if signups fill up real fast!

Looks like I will be doing the family stuff from 23rd - 28th December. Not sure exactly of the set up and if the games will be done by then.... if they are all good, if not and you think it will be too much of a pain to schedule then I dont mind if you have to pull me.

I am in that no-mans land in masters my account. - i just don't get the time to practice
Up to you if you want me to play
SQLTtinFeZa.762 skype: phil.bertino
OR
i can offrace as Terran? My Terran is probably at a platinum league level
I MAY have to stop the signups at 20 players total just to keep things simple the first time round. However, do still keep signing up, because there will be a 'waiting list', in case of people who go MIA mid-season
ATM we have a pretty good distribution of all leagues so that's good. Playoffs qualification may end up being simply 50% of each league (e.g. 4 gold players, top 2 will qualify), but I'm still considering
Important message for all participants
At the rate the signups are going, I may commence this alot earlier than stated, maybe this Sat or Sun. Stay tuned to this thread for updates! Plus I should also PM you to remind you
And to possibly accelerate things, fixtures will be released 2 weeks at a time, and the next set of fixtures will be released either after 2 weeks OR after all games have been played, whichever one comes first.
(e.g. We've a bunch of hyperactive players who complete all their fixtures within 3 days of release. I'll then release the next set of fixtures on the 4th day instead of waiting for the full 2 weeks)
@bugalugs It's up to you and your opponent how you want to choose your map. The veto system just makes it straightforward.
Last edited by crAzerk; Mon, 21st-Nov-2011 at 11:07 AM.
Ok we are going over 20 with these new wave of signups so..
Signups are now closed!
For those who still want to take part, no harm leaving your details here, you'll be put on the waiting list in case we have MIA people or ppl who pull out.
You can also join in Season 2! If this goes well ill probably run it again, with more players than S1. The projected time for this Season is 1month, but it may be faster as mentioned in my previous post
As for the Masters players I'll evaluate you later tonight when I'm free (Still considering ZergGirl too Miss GM-in-S2 )
This will most likely start this weekend or even within the next few days, further details will be released soon (by tonight hopefully). Stay tuned!
@maynarde haha fixtures are randomly generated, lets see if the two of you meet early ^^

I didn't play in season 2, that was Mafia. He had like 4-5 accounts top GM and was sick of 20+ minute queues. I gave him my account and he did what he did.
I've only just started playing again and I'm stuck in platinum. I can't deal with all this early aggression!
After great deliberation (was thinking about this all night and morning!) I have decided to exclude Masters League players for this first season of the Community Ladder.
The key reason was that after exclusion of the Masters League applicants, the participant numbers very nicely tallied to 20. Other reasons of course include the subjectiveness of the decision that I feel uncomfortable doing, etc. So rather than deliberate whether 40% WR is sufficient to include or a 45% WR, the easier way would just to exclude all Masters players.
I always hate rejecting people and I apologize for this situation, perhaps you can suggest ways in which I can include Masters League participants without toppling the balance of the ladder too much next season?
Nevertheless, I have placed you guys under the Waiting List, and if anyone falls out of the tournament for whatever reason (MIA, etc), I will slot you in, assuming there are no other non-Masters League players on the waiting list.
For the participants/those who still want to participate!
Confirmed participants have already been updated in the OP, those without Skype please do provide! Frogmite, Blaze, Rhubaarb!
And if you still want to sign up, STILL LEAVE YOUR DETAILS HERE because we do have a few forum lurkers in the signups and I'm not sure if they will actually follow through with their games.
I've already generated the fixture list and will be creating a separate thread shortly, once I figure out how to draw a decent table. The event will commence as soon as that happens! I will send out a PM to all participants too so don't worry!

@zerggirl I'm just kidding around with you ! go dominate!
@Dox
Want to join the waiting list? lol.
@all the lovely people who offered to admin
I don't think this is necessary, because most of it is left to the participants to settle - the arranging of games, etc. This is actually to encourage greater interaction among players! You can always chat and practice games with your opponents after your ladder game
Same as how Dox can't offrace and take part in BSG tournaments, I have to say no
I'm thinking about how to include you guys in the next season, help me think too!
btw if another BSGPD participant still wants in, you can take my place, I don't mind foregoing this round. I only included myself to make up the 20 player number
Nah, this will be interesting. Yeah, I'll get stomped in a bunch of matches, but I don't mind too much. I'll get to see a larger variety of opponents.
Oh, and I'm gunning for you now Erasmus. Hopefully I'm not promoted to silver before I beat you.
I fully support the 'getting stomped hardcore' school of learning. But we have BSG leagues and such because it can get depressing if it happens a lot. I don't mind this being another one of the community events where it's open, but in that case it shouldn't exclude masters.
I don't think bronze vs. diamond is too much more 'fair' than bronze vs. masters, really, is all I'm meaning.
and bring it... if you take the game, that would be pretty awesome.
I am probably completely misrepresenting crAzerk, but as far as I see it 'high'-Masters players, whatever that actually means are essentially equivalent to GMs, there's just not any free spaces. The trick is where's the fuzzy grey area where they become 'low'-Masters that are not pushing GM status.
Of course it comes back to your point, why exclude GMs.
Regardless, I'm gonna have fun. I'm up against 1 and 2 this week.
@Erasmus
I have thought about Swiss before but decided on Round Robin because the former would result in you playing the same few people after 1-2 weeks which probably gets boring.
The point is to promote interaction between everyone, thus this format encourages that.
As for the Masters League issue, it is bound to be controversial and there's never going to be a 'right' answer.
Your point about Bronze v Diamond being the same as Bronze v Masters is correct, but missing the point. Bronze players signing up for this already know they will be at a disadvantage vs even Gold n Plat. The idea is to give the plat/diam more of a chance to win it rather than have it predictably dominated by a Masters league player.
In addition, my exclusion of them is also because of the 20player issue, being the first time such an event is being run I wanted to keep things small just to 'beta test', so to speak. If everything goes well, next season will most likely include the low Masters and have a larger player capacity!
Last edited by crAzerk; Mon, 21st-Nov-2011 at 3:22 PM.
I still think we should offrace :P
Since this is the beta test maybe include us this time - and if were too strong kick us out?
my Terran is about gold-plat level
my zerg is about bronze-silver.

no joke.... lol TT
In fact, when you play at masters/gm level, you have a good knowledge of the game and you know how to macro well, so whatever the race you play, i believe you will still be able to smash lower league opponents as you will completely out-macro him/her.
As much as I may want to, the Fixtures have been generated and players may have already started arranging/playing matches We have quite a few Master league participants tho, maybe I could form a separate ladder to run concurrent with this? You guys interested in that? So it would be a 8 or so size ladder just for
I've also thought of a possible solution for next season -
Beating a same ranked/lower player = 1 pt
Beating a higher ranked player = 1 + leaguedifference (Max total= 3)
So for example a gold league beats a diamond, he gets 1+2= 3
If a bronze beats a gold he still gets 3 as that's the cap
This way the lower leagues have a chance to climb the ladder by winning 'favored' opponents

^^^ This is an awesome idea, it'll give everyone some motivation to aim higher and test themselves out, i like it.

Yes its good. It would possibly cause for cheesing if a lower player was playing a higher player - but thats part of the game.
Also, with the Masters you could either have them all start on Negative points by a reasonable sum, as well as a point Adding disadvantage, Or alternatively make us all offtrace?

BREAKING NEWS!
Due to popular demand, I have opened up a Masters Division for the league. Check out the OP for more information!
The following players need to confirm if you're still interested (and provide your Skype if you haven't)
All playing off-race would kind of defeat the purpose of joining, I would rather have you play your main race. I think the points system I suggested should help balance things out in terms of ladder ranking, I'll think further about how to balance it even better.
ps: i was gm terran the seasons before this. i switched to zerg this season with a score of 10-12 now. hopefully i can participate cause i have no intention of using terran as my main anymore.

@navi Nope sorry the Main Ladder has already begun! Fixtures have been done and all so it's not very possible to slot anyone in.If you're interested, you can join the Masters Ladder and fight with the Masters/Diamond players Would you like to?
EDIT:
Ok after some thought, would you like to sub me? I can sit out and join the Masters Division or something. The condition is that you have to stay the whole way and dont be an idiot and go MIA, and you'll be taking my existing record of 1 Win 1 Loss.
You need to leave your SKYPE too!
@Izq Should be ok, since i'm gonna let derpy in too. I have to think about this though, if there's overwhelming demand from low Masters then I have to exclude both of you
Last edited by crAzerk; Mon, 21st-Nov-2011 at 10:42 PM.
@crAzerk: that would be great! i'd like to be able to play i do know i'll be steamrolled by master players so if I had a choice between the two i'd like to sub you :P if not you can slot me into the other league.
(+edited my skype in)
@naviC
I'll have to check with boony first, if I'm gonna sub myself out he's technically in front of you in line =/
If he's agreeable to join the Masters Division then you will be in the Main Division, otherwise you have to join Masters Div or be on the waiting list
I want to play, so if the only way I can get in is to play in the masters division then so be it.
Probably going to get owned, but should still be fun.
No chance of adding any extra into the other league?
@boony
Have u read ur PMs? As I have PMed you, I am subbing myself out to allow others to participate, if you want you will sub me and take my current record (1 win 1 loss)
Once you confirm you want in I will make the amendments on the other thread, and you can assume my position and contact your opponents and cOmplete the respective games
These players need action:

Just to double check, you are signing up for the Masters Division. Yes or no?
And slymeRr+lolwut I need your Skype.
We are currently at 19 players (including these 3 people actually did intend to sign up for the Masters Division). I shall expand the limit to 20 instead of the original intended 16. 1 more slot left!
After the last players, subsequent signups will be placed on the Waiting List for Masters/Main Division respectively.
And a reminder again :
If you are below Masters League, please indicate if you are signing up for the Masters Division or you're asking to join the waiting list for the Main Division

This turned out to have incredible response! Yea crazerk might be swamped as the updating of results etc is gonna take so much time, and more as the people increase and weeks go by. What would help is a automated tournament system so everything can be on auto pilot and he only has to intervene when necessary. Does anyone know any websites that can do this?
We have our own in built ladder over here http://www.sc2sea.com/ladders.php?do=view&id=3 but its quite limited in terms of functionality, its just the basic ladder which is a different format then this arranged fixtures thing. But with all this response it certainty seems interesting to see what could happen with lots of people actively playing in it.

But with all this response it certainty seems interesting to see what could happen with lots of people actively playing in it.
Challonge easily lets you set up a round robin league with a private sign up page to let people just add themselves (not publicly listed on the challonge page... so we can just link it on sc2sea and people will only find it from here). All you need is people to input the results when they've been reported.
Doesn't ESL do something like that? Sign into the site, the tournament brackets are made (by admins) and the time is entered into the system. If you and your opponent are browsing the site, a chat box will pop up informing both players it's almost game time (etc).
When the matches are over the replays are uploaded and the win/loss is recorded.
I could have the wrong site in mind, but it has been done. I'll check my bookmarks when i'm at home (and not leeching the neighbors wireless from work!).
@washington Heyi I'll put u on the waiting list!
@conundrum Next season player cap will be at least 60 alr have it thought out
@nirvana I AM actually using challonge to help me generate fixtures. The reason why I m not just simply linking the participants the URL is because I want to maintain some semblance of order. E.g. If players know all their fixtures, some players might complete all their games real fast, etc. also, with this 2 weeks at a go thing, theres more suspense I suppose
It's really not that much of a hassle considering I'm on the site about 12 hours a day so I'm looking for something to do anyway next season I may get 1-2 admin just to help update different divisions, but I don't see it getting out of hand

URGENT MESSAGE TO MASTERS DIVISION PARTICIPANTS!
Please do not play your games yet, after some discussion with nirvana we are going to test out a new system with you guys. Don't play your fixtures yet, nirvana will inform you about the new system soon!
Sorry for the inconvenience!
The masters division is currently put on hold, crazerk and I will work something out of his exams. So for players in the masters league, please DO NOT PLAY your games. Basically the prize will be a SC2 Taiwan key sponsored by sc2sea.com and it will be made an official event. There will be NO CAP in the number of players who can sign up. We will be testing the sc2sea ladder system as well.
For the non-masters league division everything continues as normally.
Yes,Interested participants please still do leave your names here, there's likely to be space for you if the new system is implemented.
I'm extremely busy the next few days as my final exams are here, I don't know what I'm doing still posting this and checking the site when my exam is in an hour ^^ sorry for the delay guys!
In my opinion this was started way too early. Since it is so popular there should have been more space in the main division instead of the currently low amount.

I don't blame you for being you, but you can't blame me for hating it
crazerk just meant this is a trial / test type of thing. he had no idea it would be so popular.
when bugs are ironed out and format is decided, the main league will probably feature a prize next season like a complimentary sc2sea Tee + name for the winner. so stay tuned for next season!
For now, joining both should be allowed. But if this is done at the expense of your Main Division games(e.g. Missing games) I'll kick you out from Masters Division.
1 more paper to go, on sat!
If things go well, the new format masters Division should go LIve on Sat, once I am able to finalise things with nirvana. Just to tease you up, ELO system for Masters Div, no player cap, stream, and prizes for BOTH divisions! (none of these are finalized so dont take my word for it )
Go play your games Main Div people!
@Deathsfang I didn't expect more than 10 people in fact, I just wanted to test out a ladder format so we could implement it at TCP as well. The response is overwhelming, but I hope the players do follow through w the games!
And the reason for keeping it at a small number (tho 20 isn't exactly v small) is because of the fixture format. Obviously we can't have like, 50 players which would take too long to complete.

Signing up... Golden.455
what time is it for competition in Australia? I'm still in though. I guess if it's a bad time I can always post here to cancel sign up.
Im only diamond crAzerk, so i can't join masters division, although if it is short players im happy to play in masters division (its good practice for me, not necessarily best for league thoug) sorry for late response ive been confused as to whats going on with this (multiple threads etc), not having a go since this thing is getting pretty big and im sure you got your own life to lead!
Ad as for the Main Division, it is ongoing as well but it has a player cap, so there is no space at the moment. You can sign up for the waiting list though, and I will slot you in if we have a dropout. This has happened about 4-5 times this season.
To recap:
To join Main Division's waiting list, leave your char name, char code, league, race, Skype here.
To join Masters Division and get started playing immediately, just go to the link I posted above.
