Hey guys just always wondered about how people came up with their ingame names, was it randomness? Did you just happen to see something which made you say: huh, i wanna name my sc2 account that. Or was it just a coincidence?
For me i got my name Brultze when i was very young and was trying to copy my bros online names which were dtrulze and atrulze(the first and second letter represented their first and last name while rulze represented well... rules... and was supposed to be pronounced as d-t-rules or a-t-rules). But i was super young and copied it wrongly... So instead of btrulze i typed in brultze... However, i liked the name and so it stuck with me for almost all the games ive played.
So for me i got my name by accident. How about you guys?
Last edited by Brultze; Sat, 18th-Jun-2011 at 1:01 AM.
I spent half an hour trying to think of a better name than my previously more retarded name, then i came up with this cheesy weird retarded name, so that's my life story.

Been Next_rim for ages, all the way from warcraft 2. I only changed in in WoW for Nemezida, cuz you can't use underscore, and I don't really like NextRim that much. I don't really remember how I came up with this nick. I think it all started when I was like 9, and was setting up my first e-mail account.
back when i was 16 i started this clan called alternative. at that point of time i thought it would be cool for there to be a theme for the clan and everyone to pick their favourite band as their handle(silly idea lmao). my favourite band at that time was nirvana. the end!
I originally used usernames based off pure randomness, but eventually I came up with a name based off a meme from a garrysmod community.
In this garrysmod community, called gmod tower, one of the players used to say THATS CUPTASTIC! heaps... My brother was pretty involved in that community, and told me about it, which I thought was pretty funny. So for a while I used the username "Cuptastic" because it was funny.
Then minecraft came out. So I used the username "Cubetastic", and still have an account on minecraft called that.
Then when I got interested in starcraft and starcraft 2, and found zerg extremely fun (Yes, I chose zerg only because it was fun, I thought I was better at protoss), I decided on the username Zergtastic. Although I've considered changing my username to something more serious, I probably wont end up changing it, as I think its going to stick.
Baka = Stupid, inu = dog, in japanese. Got it when I was in high school and playing mmorpg, trying to find names that isn't that corny such as AssassinHunter.

I got WC3 RoC for christmas, and as you guys know it's really hot in Australia during christmas. I installed the game and went to go play on B.net but my computer kept over heating and resetting . So i opened her up and discovered my Fan had stopped working. So after changing the Bios settings so my PC wouldn't reset. I logged onto B.net and made the account "Nofan".
inspired by my Razer krait mouse, so I started with razerk. Then added in the C in front as my best friend's name starts with a C. Then capitalized the A as my name starts with an A.
Not my original ID from SC1 but it has been so long I can't even remember what that was (I think I first started using xpaperclip on AMV.org). For a while I just used my real name on forums, then one day I was inspired by an animated paperclip that got sacked. Perhaps a little odd, but I've grown attached to it.
I never had an IGN and just made a new one every day whether they were random smiley faces, song/band names or an angry comment at the weather. Eventually someone tried to recruit me into a clan and my tag was SSSSLLLAAAYYYYAAARRRRR at the time so I shortened it and put the clan tag behind it.
I don't actually remember how I got the name Zypher, and it's not particularly my favourite handle I play under, so I'm thinking of changing my name to something that has more meaning to me, maybe something catchy? I dunno.
Back when I was young and playing MapleStory (derpfreeMMOsderp), I had my main character 'Vamimathras' (a misspelling of the dreadlord Varimathras from the Wc3 Campaign).
One day I was complaining to my guild that I needed a way to distinguish myself from the 3-4 other Matts in the guild, and someone suggested 'matthras' derived from the second half of my character's name. And I've stuck with it since.
I am shocked and appalled at the amount of people I meet both in ladder and real life that asks me if I got my name from Lady Gaga. This disgusts me because I don't like her hairstyle and yet people call me the 'lady gaga' of starcraft II (and im not even a woman). I think her song has ruined my reputation of being an obnoxious fanboy of some old woman singing in such an irritating voice. I assure you that I am a kind, polite gentleman that goes to church every Sundays, help the elderly and am never exposed to negative and abusive television shows or forums. In fact I hardly use the internet at all. For that, I am going to tell you guys how I really got my name:
I've been through many usernames. The first username I used was Blade those were back in the days when I played 1.6 and I was around...6-7? I loved being called a hacker then and I'd rage at people that had the same name as me and say they copied it. Then when I played WoW my mage's name was Porscha then I name changed it to Serell, I quit WoW and played Left 4 Dead my name their was Surreal and I liked to be original back then, so when I saw a pro counterstrike player with the same name as me, I was like NUP HAVE TO CHANGE NOW. Then it went to Strife I thought it was a cool name but every few games I'd see a guy with the same name as me and I always got pissed off when that happened and tempted me to name change. So my name right now is Skrawl...for a short amount of time.
Chopped my first and last name in half, combined the first halves, changed a letter. Otherwise it would have looked too much like macro, which would be lame.

Mine is a simpler version i started playing online with the name ZombieJebus, because of the sayn' "sweet zombiejesus" Futrama, and "praise jebus" homer (Simpsons) and because of joining a clan in cod:uo i couldn't fit Jebus in so i stuck with Zombie.
I was 12 when I started using fragg (played lots of online DooM, which displayed kills in frags)
I thought i was super cool in CS:S at 13 changing it to FraggX
When I started comp I changed to Elimin8oR because I was the only person on the team who didn't lose their cool in clutch situations
when i started playing quakeworld i shortened it to eLim because people had shorter names in it
I still use that name today in Quake Live
eLim was taken on b.net at my time registering (somehow :S), and my alternate nick when miLe (a known guy in quakeworld accused me of name stealing) was online was elimzkE, so i used elimzkE
EDIT: Corrected some absolutely ridiculous typos ROFL

One of my favorite shows (Generation Kill) has a character that always says screwby to say that's cool or that sucks. I decided to switch from my PSN username ChaoticBlack because it was pretty cheesy. It was pretty random since Screwby was the first thing that came to my head and no one seemed to use it after a quick google search
When I got SC2 all my names I used for previous games were too long for sc2 so I couldn't think of anything for about an hour and I really wanted to play so I just hit random article on Wikipedia in till I got a name that I liked.
I go through a few aliases, but it all depends on the game.
But for the purpose of this topic, Solis comes from the latin word for 'Sun'.. it was also a cute little name that an ex girlfriend use to say to me before bed. So, I shortened it and weaponised it. Now I use my title to wreck nubs on the ladder.

I got my name from the Alien movies (Xenomorph is latin for alien form) and I play zerg so i thought it'd be cool have some kind of connection between my name and my race.

I've always liked names that sound as if they are from space, or epic for that matter. Names such as Ebola, Navia, Nebula. Maybe I just like names that end with an A?
I used to be called Navia but then I decided I wanted to use my name change and join a clan. The requirements of the clan would have to be; a cool name, not require attendance for 1v1 'practice' and good players. No team on SEA satisfied those requirements (either I didn't want to join them or they didn't want me for whatever reason) so I decided to ask the leader of the NA clan 'haCk' if I could represent them on the SEA server. After sending some replays and talking for a bit the guy agreed so we were in business. After staring at the name change for a while i decided that haCkNebuLa looked cooler than haCkNavia so I decided to go with that.
Back in vanilla WoW, the first High Warlord was a mage and someone I knew and respected for his creativity and skills. In the end, it was because of him that I rerolled a mage. He was Phoenixx of Warsong =)
My mate made my name up when creating my email account back in 2003. Dj are the initials oft first and middle name then villian is a cross between my last name and villain since I was be called Dylan the villain.
I thought it it be original so I used it for every game I have ever played (cs, CSS, sc:bw and wow [I am ashamed to say I played it even if it was a little amount of time]) as well as any username I could.

well my favorite cartoon character for a long long time has been harley quinn because batman is boss.... and through that i kind of got this fascination with jesters and things... so bam... jester... the cc stands for Cruise Control... a little clan a few of my friends and I have... which is what one of our mates calls allied control in team games and we thought that was pretty funny...
Way back in the BW days i used to call myself Mr.Furious or various riffs on the name "Furious" including "furious(56k)" and the highly maxtreme "feeldafury".
This translated into everyone calling me "fur" when in chat. So eventually I just shortened it down...
My favourite character in Barry Eisler's "John Rain" Assassin novels is a loud-mouthed marine sniper by the name of Dox; earning his nickname for his employment of unorthodox tactics. I've always been a fairly unorthodox player, so I figured it fit.
Unfortunately unorthodox doesn't necessary mean successful.
Cruxis is a fictional organization in Tales of Symphonia. At the beginning of the game, Cruxis is thought to be a society of holy beings who protect the worlds in the religion Church of Martel. They are thought to be a good force in the game until the group reaches the Tower of Salvation, where it all changes.

I recall creating my first email account and having no idea so doing my 11 year old impersonation of latin swears = fatcrapinius.
When I started playing CS i randomly changed it to fatpigsucker... and many of my opponents would ask; "But are you a fat pig that sucks? Or do you SUCK fat pigs?" I would reply by headshotting their entire team with the USP and laughing maniacally.
When the days of Warcraft 3 came along and I joined a big clan that was dominating US West at the time [FTR], I had to create a new account so I changed to 'pig.random' because I was a random player and fatpigsucker just didn't sound quite right...
The years wore on and all I was left with was a love of those pink, curly tailed wondrous beasts! From the pink and cuddly-babe style ones, to the huge mofo boars that rip people's faces off...
I once found a massive centipede in the garden, and my dad told me it was called a Mukade, and I thought it sounded cool. Also, Mukade was my favourite character from the video game Oni.
Back when I first started playing games online (duke 3d/halflife dm) era I was always changing my name and never found one I like. Thought of XanT one day and just liked it
Was usually some variant of Eddie, but decided to join clan FaDe, so figured it was time to get a more unique alias for gaming, so thought of FaDeEdOne. Sort of name in its self
I used to play WoW, and was rolling a male night elf warrior. I wanted this character to be serious, not like all the ones before it where I was messing around (hadn't gotten to max level before, was determined this guy would be my first) with characters like Frozennipple. Googled "elf name generator", ran it a couple of times till I got one I liked and BAM Avelestar was born. I ended up playing that game night and day for 2 years and it almost ruined my life....but I quit and never looked back, but the name was still a part of me.
Me and my friend played quake 2 on PC way back in the day.
The default name was FreshMeat
So when we tried to get our friend to join in quake 2 with us we decided to come up with suitably insulting and nooby name based off of the default. (despite me also being pretty bad at the game :P)
I came up with "Meatex_Salami" which I thought was funny and original so I took it as my own. Shortened to Meatex after a few years.
Interesting side note, I have not seen another Meatex in any game on anything but I did notice a guy who was a member of a cracking group with the Nick "Meatex_Salami" 0.o
Personally, this is one of the most interesting threads!! Its so intriguing how varied and different we all came to our ingame names. Some, like myself, based it on people we met, others are random, yet others are spurned from experiences, either old and just moments ago.
Got my name from a unit in Shattered Galaxy called "Revenant'; It was the best MMO RTS game ever made at that time and I'm still pretty sure it's still damn good if not for the graphics(It was created ages ago). ;D Got addicted to its "Earthquake" spell and ever since then loved AOE spells.

HELL YEAH!!! MY fav units were balista / arbalest / cloak jav.
My name is basically a mispell of my real name
EDIT: if only someone makes another mmo RTS as good as SG :/
got my name from the periodic table of elements back in roc days. i originally wanted lithium, but my clan mate took it, so yeah so i decided to choose oxygen. contrary to popular belief, my nick is actually oxygen the element, not the gas -.-".
Orginaly i went with the handle avatar back when i first strated gameing like 2003/4. Because it was the name the first ever perso used when he posted online.
I had to change when that dam movie came out no i go by DeNile cause i like strassman the comedian and its a running gag in one of his dvds. Also cause it sounds good without the spelling.
It kind evolved from Super Chicken. As a kid I always thought it would be cool to have a chicken with Superman's powers (who knows why, I sure don't). So I chose that as my name for pretty much everything, until one day it was taken. So then I became Supa Chicken, but I thought Supa_ChickN was cooler. Then I just dropped the Supa, and here I am.
My actual name is max so that's how i got maximus. When i was younger i loved transformers and maximusPrime sounds like optimus prime.
After making the name however I later heard about team Prime and now i constantly get asked if I'm from prime whenever i join a game. Obviously I'm not though, otherwise i wouldn't be in platinum.
I used to play a pretty awesome game called Drakengard 2 on PS2 console. Basically it's hack and slash kinda style and there was a broadsword in the game called Slaughterism which I thought sounded kinda cool. So when I was making my account I planned to use that name but it didn't look quite right on screen, so I used another similar ' word ' : MassacrisM (Coincidentally ends with M too +1000 coolness)
when I first learn about computers, I am very interested in hacking. Then I play god of war and read about various Greek methodology. I decided why not combine the 2 together and that's how I got my name
First name is Jared, Last name starts with K and ends with s, but JaredKs sounds too much like JaredKiss so I changed it to JaredKz to be cool n stuff. Beat that for creativity and innovation!
was playing a healer class in i cant even remember what game it was, some rpg when i was like 12, was pretty interested in japanese culture at the time and thought what's something heaps gay i can call my character cuz it's a healer in jap... hmmn. Haiku
Talked to my little brother about his engineering course and the word Epsilon came up as it was on part of an equation or something of the sort and thus i like the sound of it after comparing it with the common Beta and Alpha and thus Epsilon
idk....it's used in maths and business and crap but alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon bla bla bla even theta and omega are all letters in the greek alphabet. They actually come from that because a lot of greeks were the pioneers of like, mathematics and medicine.

But yes, in mathematics you will see Greek alphabets used as a standard naming convention when looking a certain equations or theorems (e.g. epsilon-delta proofs for confirming limits, curvature is commonly referred to using 'kappa', and if you remember your high school mathematics, 'delta' being used to refer to derivatives).
When I was invited to the closed beta test for the Matrix Online back in 2004 I needed a name for my character. My previous handle, neXus, didn't cut it and thus rezyn8 was born. Have stuck with rezyn8 (or a derivitative such as rez, rzn, rzyn, rezyn) ever since.
My last name is Yong. Being an aussie, we add o's and e's or meister's to the end of names, fortunately I ended up with Yonge (pronounced Yong-ee) rather than the latter.
Years ago I use to really like a TV show called Lexx so my online name in games was normally Kai or DivineAssassin. When I started playing Neverwinter nights I helped my friends make all their characters on the custom server we played on.... They gave me the shits one weekend thinking they were all good with the chars I made for them so I made a new account and named it Fadey and hunted them all weekend while sitting in teamspeak silently knowing their every move xD.
I picked Fadey from another game called Natural Selection which was a half life 1 mod. It was a Alien vs Human game with one of the aliens being a "Fade" which i always loved playing as. I played Fadey so much it stuck with me and thats what I have used for the last few years.
normally my online name is i8noodles but since number weren't allowed so when i typed it in and found out that u cant use number i said "osnap" been that ever since =D
When Polyphemus asks for Odysseus' name, promising him a guest-gift if he answers, Odysseus tells him "οὔτις," [Nemo] literally "nobody." Being drunk, Polyphemus thinks of it as a real name and says that he will eat "nobody" last and that this shall be his guest-gift—a vicious insult both to the tradition of hospitality and to Odysseus. With that, Polyphemus crashes to the floor and passes out. Odysseus, with the help of his men, lifts the flaming stake, charges forward and drives it into Polyphemus' eye, blinding him. Polyphemus yells for help from his fellow cyclopes that "nobody" has hurt him. The other cyclopes think Polyphemus is making a fool out of them or that it must be a matter with the gods, and they grumble and go away.
That's probably one of the more ancient pseudo and I liked the smartness of Ulysses on this case.
Now a lot of people online say they "have found Nemo". That makes me smile even if it's not at all the origin of this pseudo. It has been chosen far before the film about the little clownfish.
Before knowing this story Nirvana created my special sc2sea Avatar with a combination of the colored clownfish and a black and white bearded Captain Nemo. I was so delighted to have a image of the way he was seing me and also delighted as it was also how I'm seeing myself.
Two years ago when I was in France with some friends, we decided to drink... a lot. I found a beer called "The Maximator" (made by Amsterdam 14% or something), it was funny because Max is my real name. So today my ingame names are usually theMaximator or Varanth.
For StitcH, one of my best friend nicknamed me stitch cause she thought I sounded like the cartoon character. Sometimes there were moments she would forget my name and called me stitch instead. >< Hence StitcH was formed! =)
I have a family friend who would every now and again would call me Bugalugs. I needed a name for an RPG (can't remember which one) and I needed to come up with a last name. McScruffin popped into my head and I became Bugalugs McScruffin.
Now, thanks to both HoN and LoL, I am now a Doctor. Bugalugs McScruffin wouldn't fit, Bugalugs is often taken and McScruffin by itself rarely looks good. In both games I believe my name is DrMcScruffin. Doctor was the first title that popped in my head as I tried to think of a title that didn't sound crap with McScruffin. I may have chosen a different one if I'd thought about it harder, but Doctor it is.
Look at my ingame avatar..now look at my ingame name...lol XD I usually go under other names for games and these names are either related to Star Wars or just my preference of the time. :P

Proud to be Nunquam redono, nunquam deditionem
I used to play a lot of racing games, and so I chose Aero because it sounded cool and it kind of ties into racing with most race-cars having aerodynamic aids (wings, splitters, etc.).
One day as I was racing some guys online I overtook one of my Scottish friends so he typed into chat "Aero, you punk!" and so it stuck :]
My friends and I were really into Halo 2 when it first came out, I needed a name for that and being the original person I am I just stole it from red vs blue.
My user login name for my high school was dtorre. I used to sit with someone who loved seeing my username and would always call me Dtorr. Since I played Counter-strike with my friends, they said I should call myself by that name. So I decided to style it up as DtorR and it has been with me ever since. Just for the note DtorR represents my full name shortened, where D is for Daniel and Torr is for Torrez.
When I was about 14 I used to go by the name "zephian" on forums..a name which a friend came up for me a long time ago. When I started playing wow I tried to call my character just that but it was already taken...so the variation that I ended up being able to use was zepph Since then it's what I've used for everything.
i always used to make pink armour characters in halo called bambi for a giggle as everyone else was using RvB names at the time. After being so easy to spot for so long i decided to use a dark brown skin and be bbq_sauce but the three other people on the console "helped" my type it so by the time BBQSAC was entered that was enough and it has stuck ever since. I played in a couple of the reddit sea king of the hills and listening to my mate and another bloke try and say my name in the cast without laughing was tops
I was a short kid growing up and everyone just called me Short. I guess it kinda stuck on since im one of those guys who are can take a good joke and laugh at my disabled state with the others lol.
well i started out with Hellfire about 10 years ago, but then playing online FPS games the name Hellfire was taken, so i changed it to Hellfyre... it's been like that now for a couple of years.

Some Ling-Roach-All-in-Fake-Expo-10-pooling from Jerry there - Dox's bauss casting
I just bought the game and all I could think of was: OMG I HAVE STARCRAFT 2 WINGS OF LIBERTY! and when they ask for a name I thought wings of liberty, but I thought that would be copying so I put in WingsOfDeath. after I joined clan TCP there wasn't enough space for TCPWingsOfDeath so I just put TCPDeathWing
This one's kinda weird. My original name was Techno cause i like techno music. But when i joined LOS, i wanted a name that started with S so that the "s" of los would start my name. And i thought it would be funny if somehow i got into vile, so i called myself schnitzel, because i could imagine a caster saying: "it's a schnitzel that tastes horrible!" =P
Cyan Bloodbane from the Dragonlance series. Decided to make it Cyanide because Poison > Colour.
Used to go with Zephyr though, but got bored of it. If I had female characters it would probably be Kaysa (from MtG) or Calaise (from an old Sega game called Warsong). Looks like those are going to be my D3 names. hehe
when i was younger i really liked transformers which came from my bothers so my 1.6 name was megatron, then i shortened it to tron, stuck with that for a few months and whilst watching a frag video i saw a player named techduck, which i through was cool and combined it to create the infamous techtron
After Clicking "Random" enough times on wow to get a name, "Bashnek" came up, so i've ran with that on my main on wow, But everyone just called me "bash" after a while anyway,
So for other stuff i just shortened it down to Bash, and i just add the "nek" where bash is already taken.
(Like BF3 >:| )
My last name is Scala and as a nickname people started calling me Scalaz. That stuck with me and started to become my in-game name from what was previously random things i saw on items around my computer :P
I needed a gaming name other than my irl name, michael, cast around for it and saw on steam that shogun 2 or w/e was on sale and the word imperial came to mind at the sight of the samurai, ******* hate everything about it now and go by thehypnotoad everywhere else including my other sc2 account
For me it all started with WoW -_- .. I wanted my in game character to be Kalika but it was taken, so Kalikah it became. The name stuck so well its also my stage name for performance, Kalikah Jade
Well my name Joshboy is pretty uncreative haha, just something a lot of my friends used to call me. But my alt account I use Atlas, referencing the character from Bioshock, which is in reference to the titan in greek mythology, cause I just love that story so much
I've had my share of cheesy names over the years but they were usually 2 word names and I could never fit the whole thing in with clan tags when I got a game so I decided I wanted a 1 word name. I looked up a word generator online and chose "rare" words and spammed generate until this came up. I'd never heard "Hydroid" before so I googled it a bit and found out that a Hydroid is a life stage for animals of the class "Hydrozoa" and although they look docile and harmless some can pack a painful sting. I thought that was the kinda image I wanted to give and so I chose it.
My Battlefield 2 name was - T3hmuffinM4nyo (Which reads - The muffin man yo).
I was playing a 16v16 competition "the netGameRadio battlefield masters" and one of the shoutcasters (Jonny Sisko) couldn't pronounce my name properly, he called me;
The muffin may no
the muffin man mayo
the muffin mayo
the muffin may-no
So I started playing CSS at MachoMuffin and ended up using Mayo
Pure randomness... Well actually I changed my name several times. First it was ggsnipes then SGak (ppl prononunce it s - Gak its SG-ak) then to snipes then back to ggsnipes than to dns then back to ggsnipes.
tbh my first ever nickname was Gaaranarutol >.< (I was 12 rofl)

ULTRALISK DROP HARASS!!!! THE QUESTION IS WHICH OVERLORD IS THE ULTRALISK IN??????? Playing DotA 2 beta at the moment...
In real life, I'm pretty mean to my friends around me. I just make jokes about them a lot (in a friendly way of course). So people started calling me meanie, so I just tweaked a little bit to produce MeaNy
Neatnoicepls just comes from how I drink whisky. Since I'm a bit of a whisky geek and have about 30 bottles.
SlowHands was just a joke nickname I got at a lan cafe I used to go to in England way back. I wasn't that fast but compared to all the WoW and Hon players there I was pretty quick so they started calling me slow hands.
My ign is mrfool and its actually my 2nd account, I gave myself that name because I felt like an epix fool after some major losing streaks after a long hiatus from the game! Well, fools are cool right?
Alter just came to me on a random thought, I had tossed it up between "Angels" "verra" and "Alternate" in other games. So just decided to go for AlteR with cap R to be a total boss ~_^
Uni camp, we stayed up drinking all night and I went to bed earlier than the rest of the guys because my group had to get up at 5am, the others not till 8am. After about an hour they decide I should come back out to the campfire, so they burst into my room and start dragging me across the floor in my sleepingbag.
Now this being a hot night I was sleeping in nothing but my boxers, so in my sleepy/drunken state I scream out DON'T I'M NOT WEARING ANY PANTS! I was then dubbed PantlessPete and the next night (whilst again drunk) one of the guys said it should be my SC2 name, so I got on his laptop and changed it right there and then.
5-6 years ago I played a CS rip-off basically called Kuma War and I name myself Private_Potthead. I couldn't think of anything better when I joined SC2 so just became Potthead, then I joined VB clan so added the tag
I was at school, in the library, talking to my friends about their Starcraft 2 names, at the time my name was horrible and i was in the process of finding a new one. SUDDENLY, i saw a book from across the room, named "Profiles in Audacity", and i was like BOOM, that's my new Starcraft 2 name. Then the bell rang and i went to maths class. True story, and a cool one at that...
Back in the day when i started playing WoW vanilla i was watching Ice Age the movie before i made my account and the bit where Sid the sloth says the big bad tigey wigey to diegao was stuck in my head. So ever since my name in every game has been TigeyWigey. Pretty eventful if you ask me Lol.
Based on the number of requests as to how I got my name, I thought I would just make a post here and refer people to it on a need to know basis. Whilst this is a somewhat complex process I think you will all agree that the end result is something to be admired.
Of course, there have been many derivations of screen name based on the intricacies of ones’ interests growing up. As an introductory user to the fascinating world of the internet I had a distinct interest in pokemon – so much so that the first username I ever adopted was a variant “poke” and of course, “N” for Nick – resulting in “poke_n”.
Now poke_n was used to play Yahoo! Towers – still one of the most epic battle tetris games in my mind at least. I used to enjoy the sound of the dial connection as my 200MHz Pentium 1 processor froze and spat images at me loosely resembling an appealing game. But I digress.
The next username, that I can recall, was a long-standing identifier which began with a pocket personaliser which my father had obviously found a rather redundant waste of a few dollars – donating it to his son.
Now this thing was quite advanced for its time (on par with the PC owned) and involved the use of a passcode retrieval system – without which access to top secret personal phone numbers and the like were denied. Using my innovative powers of intellectual rigor (as I do occasionally), I noticed that the following letters corresponded with the following numbers:
1 – C
4 – D
7 – E
I could thus spell the word CODE by substituting the O for a numerical zero on the keypad. 1047 became my number of choice – preceeded by “Nick” – I became Nick1047.
Nick1047 was however short lived after an email creation accident involved the forgetting of one’s person to the account nick_1047@hotmail.com. Now, the analytical advocate in me is the first to admit that creativity is not my best point. Assessing the situation for what it was worth upon the discovery of MSN instant messenger, I decided that my new name would be “Nick1048”.
Nick1048 enjoyed frequent use and prosperity, becoming a familiar name on the Warcraft III PvPGN network: Bored Aussie and serving as a primary online persona for yours truly.
I had always felt the need to find a name which was truly representative of the wielder. A quest of sorts, if you will indulge me, for it is an important identifier and the maker of a first impression in the electronic realm. The struggle was not an easy one. It would come in waves.
Considerable excitement then considerable doubt, formulation and reformulation. I knew of course that the quest was not one I could solve by mere description or social pretence. Deep down the desire to compose the perfect name was more than one mind could truly comprehend, I needed to consult the teachings of time.
Like all things derived, calculus would become my home.
And so it began with a simple proposition: a + b = c
Which of course included the following assumption: z^2 + y^2 = x
Or if you prefer: Z^2 + A^2 = x
The vector, represented by the pro-numeral “v” in this instance could be written explicitly of course for convenience of collecting like factors and using traditional calculus methods: Z^2 + A^2 + I^2 + N^2
Changing the plane in which one operates varies the results, and should of course be duly considered and without arbitrary notions of imaginary numbers the general expression:
M.R = ZAIN
In the final context of the conical sphere I calculated the following:
Mr-Zain = 0
And hereby we derive the final form of six independent representations of the relevant field. A systemic approach was then adopted by way of direct substitution to establish what the simplest representations of each equation would be. The result was as follows:
M
R
Z
4
1
N
Where the algebraic characters are representative of momentum, resistance, z-juice, and nitric acid. The compounds of which actively address gravity at the 9.8 constant without causing instability.
MRZ41N was born. Translated literally into plain English characters and the art of L337 speak, one can see the simple reversion to MrZain and then the natural progression to Mr_Zain.
Elementary really. Now please stop bugging me about how I got my name, especially you TARichard. I have very important work to conduct.
I was at a lan with friends, and i was listening to my ipod while we started to play various games, the song of the same name by the killers came on so i used this name for that lan and i've used it ever since.
Looking for an awesome IGN that I could stick with.
Finally settled on Ricochet when I saw my friend walk into a pole and bounce off it onto the floor.
Thought it sounded pretty good.
my last name is scobie so at school i got called scooby or scobedog (which my old name used to be) then got called losdog oneday so i got this name purely by my last name
well i started off as a toss player and couldnt think of a name so i used my favourate strategy (for winning), headbutting the keyboard, and got this name

I like Vini, we make a good 4's team.. The 2 of us.
Take three consecutive letters of your choice (e.g. J, K, L), throw in some vowels and maybe one or two consonants to make it sound reasonabe, and you're good to go. (e.g. Jurkayl)
That's my process whenever I need a new name. The result is almost always available.
Xara also happens to be my name.

Reason: I end up editing almost all my posts, doesn't need to be a reason.
I got mine from a Satelite -.- Stratos eventually became Spartaz. But that was only a temp name ^^ eventually ill make the transition to my true name hahaha.
EZ sons, CombatEX obviously, I believe he is a good player and is very entertaining... He has changed a lot form his sniping and BM days! Although he still does BM a bit...
Well I decided to go with something different from breadfan (for some reason, it's my handle everywhere else), and I was listening to Diamond Head at the time, I threw in some random capitals and BlitZKrieg was born
When I was playing World of Warcraft a few years ago, me and some friends had a habit of 'shortening' words for no real reason. ("can't be fucked = cbf = ceebz" for example), I made a new character which was a Death Knight and 'shortened' DK into DeeKz, before this my characters name was named by someone else so I didn't really have a proper ID, it eventually became my main ID.
Funnily enough no one really gets it and just thinks it's a 'funny' way of saying dicks lol.
I've had various nicknames throughout my gaming life. My first nick was Benjamin, back in my Adventure Quest days as a 9-year-old. Well, my name is Benjamin so go figure.
When I started playing WoW, I got a little more creative, and living in Europe at the time I wanted something that sounded German (don't ask me why) and started with a Z, and Zchlade was born (pronounced shlarder, not shlayde). Fantastic wasn't it? After that I had many names in WoW, usually born through wanting to spell a word using alternate letters (for example every second letter in Dernugioda (starting at the first) spells Druid),
For a while after that most names were just randomness (with the only condition being that it sounded like a name fit for the race I played).
Sorathez was originally my name for the second Mii I made (the first was Chikusho which is Japanese for Damnit or something to that effect), at the time I was getting in to Manga and I like the Japanese word for sky, "Sora" and instantly the name "Socrates" popped in to my head, so I mashed them together and corrupted them a bit and ended up with Sorathez and that has been my main IGN for about 3 years now, on Wii, forums, WoW and StarCraft as well as various other games. I have since stopped playing WoW and Sorathez the Druid has gone in to a steep decline.
On NA I'm known as aQszL (was also my twitch.tv nick for a while). This name (pronounced Axel, not Aqusizzle as Meatex likes to say it :P) came to me just before I slept. Axel is a fairly common name in Denmark, and it was a name I liked, but I wanted something that was spelled very strangely because I'd recently had a conversation about stupid names with outrageous spellings (for example, one could be named "Strawberry" but had it spelled Qrf, go figure). As such AqsZL was born, but overnight I forgot the capitalisation and ended up with aQszL.

Use to have a bad habit of stealing street signs and letterboxes when i was young 16-18 and drunk walking home from stuff as a teenager. pretty stupid now but funny at the time and just became my alias for forums and stuff and stuck when it came to sc2. also i like it coz its not
"XxDarkxXDEM0NxXHUNTERZZXZZ" which was pretty much what everyone elses xbox live gamertags looked like
My friend came up with this cool idea of removing 1 letter from his name and make that his nick.
So obviously we'd make fun of him by doing it ourself.
That's where LindN was born, it's my surname with a letter missing somewhere. Shumped is a nick I've had for over 9 years now. Used it back when I started playing on PC with CS and Battlefield
I got my name from a form of saying Captain. When I was about 5 I gave the name to my cat. Many think I got it from animal crossing but I've had the name since before it came out.
At first I was flairmonkey, that was too long for Xbox Live so I tried Gleefulmidget. Gleefulmidget was too long for PSN so I became gleefulpixie. It stuck haha!
Growing up playing Halo Trial on pc and Becoming alright at the game .
one of the best players on the servers Was a guy name Anivom.
Now me and my friend would have to practice for hours each day even to start to become close to beating this guy.
Eventually i decided it was time to get a new Name . My original name used to be PRO PKR (pro player killer) From when i used to go back and play runescape. i used to dominate the PVP scene :P
But as i progressed on in games i decided Well hey ! Venom sounds bit like Anivom (lol wut) so i was like yea Lets do it!
So i went on from there and changed to Venom.
Since then there have been a few changes back and forth with names. i used to be >>ÑA<<Venom. But as i left the halo scene i change back to stranded Venom!
The name I used before (like since im 10, changed to Posigen as I was 14) was Posipi4 Posipi is a pokemon (that little pichu that is positive? xD) and well... I was 10 and was a spammer cuz it was "fun" to spam.... lol. then I started playing LoL where they didnt accept numbers, I thought of general and then well... Posigen :3 gen hasnt anything to do with general tho.
I likez Posigen, itz my favouritez namez now... :3

Always felt Kerrigan was sucha badass in BW. Managed to get the name on an Undead Mage on Oceanic WOW Thaurissan Server. Quite surprised i managed to retain it in SC2
I got this name when I was not stuck on my name. SG was an old clan that died, and ak was my nickname XD. But I'm better known as ggsnipes in the CoD/DotA side of stuff.

Proud to be Nunquam redono, nunquam deditionem
My old ID used to be Durien, which i created as a original name inspired by Durotar, because i played Orc in warcraft... but i would later find out that a Durien is some sort of fruit in malaysia or something...
i just wanted an original name to call my own, much like Bisu, because naming myself something like all the other korean pro's like; snow, savior, angel, flash etc. was very hard to do cos its so hard to come up with something that no one else hadnt already taken somewhere
I came up with Champi by doing a mix of the two, i chose champion by picking a noun like the koreans do, and then i cut the end off to make it an original sounding name to call my own like Bisu
Last edited by Champi; Sat, 24th-Mar-2012 at 8:13 AM.
well on my brother behalf i will say TheChad is his nick name he got as he was growing up so it stuck as for me a Wolf is my fav animal and the SVD Dragunov is one of my fav weapons also dragunov in tekken is epic so yeah i made the 2 together but i have recently decided im going to drop the Wolf in the future to just Dragunov and than if i get a clan latter in mytime on sc2 than ill add that in front i doubt it but somthing like LiquidDragunov or EGDragunov LOL oh well hahah

i used to be into football (soccer) and there is a team called manchester united which i used to support, they had the nickname reddevils, because of there badge
and on every site i went on the name was always free, eventually i stopped following it but kept the name as an alias
Despite what many people think - I did not get my name from the Warhammer series.
Carnifex is a deathcore band from America, of which I used to be quite fond of, however the real reason is that it is Latin for Executioner. Simple!
Was watching I think Pink panther and from that I got the name "SmokeBandit" from the scene when Steve Martin's character "stops" the guys robbing the casino (the Smoke Bandits). I then just made it bandit to make it a short cool noun tag. ;D

I tend to drink alot of Iced Tea. One Day, an Mmorpg asked me for a character name. As I drank my Iced Tea, I thought about a name. But one just did not come in to my head. And when they did, they would always be taken. So, I tried IcedTea. It was not taken. That changed my gaming life forever. Hahaha.
It's the sound I make when I eat lots of bread.
I ate allot of bread in my last year of school, I changed schools on the last year and not many people remembered my name, so they referred to me as Nom because it was easier. It's sometimes Nommi because many games have a 5 char min and it's closer to my name, Naomi
Was thinking for a while, and thought of the word "cynic" and how sometimes I am one with my occassional pessimism then I thought if I cut the second "c" and replace with an "x" it'd sound cool. Thus CyniX. kekeke
Waaay back when Highschool was the only worry of life, my grade had 4-5 people with the same first name (everyone one of those 'Chris's' was referred to with a nickname to avoid confusion). I'm quite tall (6ft7") and I was relatively timid compared to the ADD riddled others. So my mates at school (all those years ago) referred to me as 'Lurch' from the Adams family. It stuck, it took about a week before the staff and persons who didn't know me were referring to me as Lurch. So naturally I started using it.
As a kid I was a big DBZ fan. Because of this when I made my broodwar account I was Bardock. However as I grew older I got a little sick of it and shortened it to Bard
There is a story/myth that really resonates with me about how people are stuck in thier beliefs and rarely reevaluate things. When presented with evidence or logic that contradicts thier world view they will either dismiss it or come up with absurd justifications.
From wikipedia:
Quote:
"A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!""
Hence the username "infinite turtles" was born
Having to resort to the world turtle standing on another turtle which stands on yet ANOTHER turtle ad infinitum at first made me laugh but then realise that we are all guilty of things like this. It reminds me of the importance of always questioning your own beliefs and always seeking for knowledge that questions those beliefs.
However it was a very long name and would run into character limits so it then became "infiniteturtles" and then "finiteturtles" and even that was too long for some character limits so now it has become "turtles".
Back when I played a Half Life 1 mod 'Natural Selection' I learnt how effective learning from people who are better then you are.
One of the top players, who was a douche, aliased as 'DONT PLAY GAYLIENS' (the game was an FPS where you were pretty much playing TvZ but in first person of the units in an interior scale,) but while I was drunk thought having a big capslock name at the top of the scoreboard was cool.
After I learnt to copy play-styles I used his alias and people on the other team saw me using in-game movement like I was him and instantly were like "GG". Then I came up with my own alias which was approximately SSSSSSSLLLLAAAYYYYAARRRRR (while drunk) and kept topping the scoreboard so I decided to keep it.
Then I got invited to a wicked clan by the guy who brought me into StarCraft and made it more 'professional' and called it "Slayar".
The end.
ps. I was drunk while posting this so there's probably incoherent sentences
I don't really remember, I think it was in WoW, I think I wanted to point how knowledge is unrealistic (you know, nobody can know everything), and it's just ironic
My last name is Baldwin so a lot of my mates call me Baldie, hence my IGN!
.. and no I am not bald ALTHOUGH I do have an auto immune disease called Alopecia Areata (temporary hair loss) so occasionally I get patches of hair missing!
Apparently 1 in 1000 people suffer it.. only fitting it hit a Baldwin :P
My name is Tony, and i'm maso so people call me Tonsh, it's just a nickname and I've stuck with it through most games i've played since I can't really come up with anything else

LOL These are some great stories! back in my CS days I started out as Visual_Zero. I don't know why, but I thought that sounded cool. Shortly after, I realized it was a dumb name and shortened it to visuaL. Then I changed it one more time to vsL. I never really liked the name, but it stuck for the many years of my CS days. Until one day.... I installed SC2 and was mid conversation w. a friend on the phone when I said "Hey, it's Matt again." He replied "Hi Mattigan, I'm going to call you Mattigans." And that is how my name was created.
Every Kairosoft game is amazing. I remember playing Game Dev Story for 8 hours straight on my friggin iPhone. Who plays a game for 8 hours on their iPhone!? Kairosoft made me do it....

Used to be obsessed with Rayman
Like the song "Lay your love on me" by Racey
Coincidentally, I mistakenly got a Racey album one time when I had ordered something completely different.
So I stuck them together and got Raycey, which sounds like racy: a personality trait I'm particularly fond of.
Arnor as any google search will tell you was a Kingdom from LotR, I found the fictional history of this Kingdom and its inhabitants really interesting, so yeah it became my ingame name, Ive also found it to be extremely unique I can only think of 1 time where Arnor wasnt available as a name even then Arn0r was available so looks like theres only 2 of us lol
(sadly there are actually 4 Arnors in SCII, the SEA and NA accounts are mine, but theres two EU Arnors out there as well!)

7 year old watching Anime with subtitles, I saw that Kami meant God in japanese and my little imature brain decided to make that my username for everything. Now I have to stick with it because I do not want to through the trouble of having two aliases. Gami is there because it rhymes.
I got the name Psych through randomness also, I overheard the name "Psyche" when I was still in highschool and it was a girl's name... Funny though, I just removed the "e" from Psyche and made it "Psych" to make it more guy-ish and stuff. Lol.
lol well i do a bit of powerlifting and i popped my knee out one night on the piss with the boys so was out of lifting and just sitting around playing games drinking rum for a while.... gg lol
one of my friends didn't like his name anymore, so we had to try come up with something else to call him. his initials were C.C. so i just randomly called him Crispy C. one day. i liked Crispy, so i stole it.
When i was thinking of a name i went down stairs there was an orange and a banana. So i thought of the name Orangebanana and because that was to long to fit QED i made it QEDBanana
Surprisingly my name (Yurick) was not chosen with relation to Yorick from Hamlet. I stumbled across the name in a random name generator one day when looking for a new character id (in WoW >.>) and stuck with it. Harmon came from the days of diablo 2 (no idea how i got it), and due to the increasing difficulty with obtaining Yurick as an online forum handle (everyone uses it as a variant of Yorick for some reason), I have started to use YurickHarmon as my Forum handle, and as an IGN when I can't get Yurick.
started as RedFinger because when first stared i had a cut on my thumb .... :L was the first thing that came to mind .... then when the clan i was in was switching to a different name that had to do with arch angels or something stupid i looked up names of angels or something and added Red in the front of it .. so ( RED ) from my old name (Mare) the angel name i found and just sounded better with an (A) in between
Takiah was randomized and then customised a little...I can't remember what it was originally but I was pretty picky. It sounded the way it does now when saying it out loud but I remember thinking "No, NO, NO! The spelling doesn't match the way it sounds".
So yeah..that's my story :P

I chose Soundwave, because I'm a big Transformers fan and Soundwave is my favourite character. As it turns out, quite a few people use the same ID, but that'll be no problem because they're just ladder randoms who will get utterly overshadowed.

IGN is BLNFheathen. Was and still am a complete noob to RTS, didnt understand this GLHF business. I had a friend who is a bit of an asshole say "BLNF" in reply to some fella's "GLHF" i lol'd and thought that would be a rather amusing clan name. There is no clan (someone start one and let this scrub in ), but ill still stick with it. Heathen due to my dislike for organized religion and my love for horrible Black Metal music.
crumpet in older generations was another name for [femal genetils] and when i was however young it was probably fuuny to be called a [female genetils] and its the name i decided upon and always stuck with. it might have something to do with my grandma using it as her go to word. KF cant be discussed its deemed inappropriate everywhere i go

This man is living proof that the key to getting more than one name change out of blizzard is being offensive.
I chose it from my uni days when there was a series of Hercules and Xena with wonderful NZ backdrops. Anyways, Nemesis is the name of the minor goddess, the goddess of Revenge and divine retribution. So a girl's name which is not obvious to be a girl's and a nice meaning that I liked. I just fell in love with that name and it has been my handle for the longest time.
Suffice to say "TheGentleman" was not my original alias.
Based on my last name my alias for years was Chadders which evolved into ChadChad then to plain old Chad. TheGentleman is a far more recent alias and a mindset I attempt to bring to all my games. I'll even tell my foe what race I am if I chose random.
Well myne was pretty simple becasue its my nickame "Cloudy" which is pretty much my name these days and i added my clan name "Demise" to it.... so put it together you get DemiseCloudy =D
Well.. Prodigga.. It started of as prodigal. Got into a clan for CoD, jumped on voice chat and I realized I didn't know how to pronounce it. Morphed to Prodigga from there (pro-digger)
I had a friend called Ghosty I used to play WoW with, but life happened and he had to stop playing & I didn't get to see him quite as often, so I took his name in remembrance & of his good-gaming deeds ^^
kERo is my nickname from friends, its from Kerosene. My other well used nick is Izotz which I obtained for my Frost Mage in wow, it mean ice in Braquse I believe (spelling >.<)
First time I used this was in a private server for Ragnarok 5 years ago. XD
wolfs look cool and I always had a ton of jokes that had to do with farting in high school. They called me a bomber of all noses. Therefore, wolfbomb to me and my friends meant "fartingwolf". XD
My actual IGN is Junglened, Posijuice was me attempting to branch out, but I've retired that ign.
Short story about Posijuice: Big Tim Burton fan, is from one of his Beetlejuice cartoons.
Alright, now to Junglened.
So, I was pretty big on World Of Warcraft... for 24 levels, haha.
My main problem with anything is indecision. I think the greatest game of all time is vanilla WoW but my favorite is Deus Ex.
But, I digress, my main problem in WoW was indecision. I had the problem of choice, if there is a flaw in my character than I will delete and repeat. I think I rolled... 100 characters in a month?
Anyhow, the farthest I got was with a dwarf hunter named Lingua (hihi if anyone remembers, lol) who got to level 24.
Now, I remember where I got the name... I own a Farside Comic collection and one day I was reading it, and then the caption on the bottom read 'it's a jungle out there, Ned!'. So that's where I derived the name from. JungleNed.
However, I don't exactly remember where I implemented it. From what I can muster I think I used it on a Troll Hunter, and it's stuck since. It could just as easily be my pet Emu thingy with Lingua.. But again, the name has just stuck.
And that's it, really.

It needs to all be lowercase. (warning long story ahead)
In the online social game Erepublik, I was a significant factor in the "nation" of Australia. and as a mental note to myself to keep things humble among the praise, I always made sure to write my name in lowercase.
It certainly becomes a challenge between ego and reality when more than a thousand people you have never met refer to you as a "diety" of the game.
If you ever see me as my other nickname "UNIsTaken", it simply refers to "UserNameIs Taken" (that means "zaney" has been registered)
PiPo is my cousins nickname, whos name is Phillip, one of the most nicest and honest person I know
I put his name in because back in the day he used to kill everyone at any game he played, another thing is he once had an accident where he fell off the fifth floor of a hotel on new years eve (cannabis), he then smashed through a glass roof and landed on a second layer, under that was concrete, if that glass shattered as well he would have died and he should have been dead anyway, but he somehow survived, even the doctors said he was supposed to be dead. So I put his name in for luck.
Gevy is my nickname the kids gave me at primary school, Gevergiz was my name and ppl didnt really know how to pronounce it cos they were all italian aussies lol~
So PiPo+Gevy = PiPoGevy!

I came up with 'Legitimate', cause' when I back in gold league, I got 6 pooled 5 games in a row, Got really pissed, so I figured if im Legit, no one will cheese me, cause im not Gunna cheese them.
I started really competitively gaming on Halo so my Gamertag was 'pr0ject merc' which a more mature me wouldn't have gone with. I was a fan of TSquared because he used his initials (tom taylor) practically as his name so I wanted AAA somewhere in it (austin alan andrews) and at the time I was really into listening to the band Queen. I share a birthday with Freddie Mercury so I took off the pr0ject and added A3 and the end of merc'ury'
Weird but whatever lol

I have quite the gamer name history. The earliest one that I could remember that wasn't my actual name was "Jester", since I didn't take much seriously and loved the quirky nature of certain Nintendo games and such.
Then when I made it to my teenage years and started playing shooters more and more I obviously felt I needed a serious aggressive name that would be taken "seriously" haha :P So out of that was born "MidniteMasacre". I don't remember why it was just a bit random, with misspellings so that it would be the right length for an Xbox Live name. It was like reading a punch in the face and I was content.
Next were the WoW days. Being a Night Elf Rogue prompted me to take a name that was more sneaky and mysterious , so I inverted the popular figure of lore Kael'thas Sunstrider and made "Shadestrider".
Since then until very recently all my igns have been variations of "Shade" in some way but I was sick of the name always being taken where ever I went on the web, so I endeavored to create the One Name to rule over all of my accounts. After about an hour or so long session with the Latin Google translator I found a name that was not remotely used on Steam, or globally on SC2. It rolled off the tongue. It was memorable. And most importantly, it still fit my Modus Operandi as a gamer.
I found my one name.
"Inumbris" is Latin for "In the shadows", and this One will rule over all of my online kingdom for some time to come

I was walking into my cousin's room and saw that he had made a number plate out of wood on his door. Instead of 'Victoria On The Move' (or some variant) it was 'Patto on the move' Patterson is my last name so I stole it and never told him

I got randomly called Bodzilla one day by a neighbor, annoying kid, but i went with it. Went with the name for many years with different spelling, Zilla being the more common one.
But my older brother is responsibly for getting me into games, he used to go by the name Snizza, so as a tribute to him seeing as he barely has time to game anymore i changed it to ZizLah

Once was playing a 2v2 on ladder with a (very drunk) mate, we were losing and I only had mostly mutas left, he screamed out over and over again, "GO FOR THE JUGULAR, GO FOR THE JUGULAR" Which after crazy amounts of discovery led to my ingame name being Jugular
Back in Junior College there was an inexplicable fad going on of troll-buying plushies for guys during their birthday. My friends got me a cow, and, knowing my favorite Dota hero was Luna Moonfang, jokingly christened the cow "Moofang". Somehow that became my online handle.
Well, I am 14 years old random grandmaster player, so i thought that "The Young One" was unique and cool Since i am really young and a good player and is easily remembered

When I was younger, I saw this series, Hercules : The Legendary Journeys. Nemesis was a character featured in the show. She is one of the minor goddness, the spirit of divine retribution against those who succumb to hubris (arrogance before the gods); though protrayed as balance and justice.
Probs best described using wikipedia as :
The word Nemesis originally meant the distributor of fortune, neither good nor bad, simply in due proportion to each according to what was deserved; then, nemesis came to suggest the resentment caused by any disturbance of this right proportion, the sense of justice which could not allow it to pass unpunished.
I also liked that the name is for a female yet not sounding girly if u know what I mean. And I happen to like reading about Greek mythology.
Scivation xTend - I think - was an amino acid supplement I was taking at the time.. When it came to making my account name I looked over on the shelf and there it was.. lol.. Didn't taste particularly nice but they never do >.<
I was looking for a name that represented where I was at in regards to the game itself. Maybe one day it will change. I doubt it though. Always learning. =D

Reason: changed "say" to "day"
Well back when I used to play dota my friend I often played with would take a ridiculously long time to load, leading to many "are you playing on a toaster?" jokes. Eventually when I got sc2 and tried to decide on a nick, toaster was too boring so i added battle. Unfortunately starcraft 2 has a character limit so my in-game ID was stuck with BattleToast, which is nowhere near as cool.

Antelope is actually what my brother's SC2 account was named, back when him and I shared an account on KR, but he drifted away to Dota2Land and I don't really have a good substitute so I'm was gonna stick with Antelope, but I'm thinking of changing it soon. Antelope doesn't really fit me and it's not like I'm well known enough for people to notice :3
I've used to use it as my DJ name back in the day.
I use b3nje909 (alot) for almost every forum and 360. but for some reason Battlenet accounts dont accept numbers in names.. which I find annoying.
Im going for a spine operation tomorrow, titanium screws will be used on it, thus decided on changing my name to titanium a few months ago when i knew im going for this op.
Mine was originally going to be the middle 3 letters of my last name (ard), the first 3 letters of my middle name (rob) and the the last 3 letters of my first name (iel).
Through some kind of mistake the [r] got left out and came out as Adrobiel. Pretty happy with it, fairly memorable and nobody else seems to use it
Kumo - クモ - it's a japanese word, and it means Spider :3 I decided to make this my username after sort of getting interested in arachnids and their abilities. I'm also learning Japanese, and I didn't want an English name, so Japanese it was :P
note: it's pronounced "ku mo" not "kum o" before anyone misreads it. I hadn't taken into account the other possible pronunciations when deciding on the name >.>

Really though, I used to always name myself Ttam, then one day I got tired of explaining to people that I didn't name myself after tim tams,so I changed it to Matt and it's stayed that way ever since, assuming the game allows me to call myself Matt, if not it goes back to Ttam, if not that it goes to a variation of those letters Tamt Amtt etc.

SEA - means I'm pretty awesome
There used to be this web comic called SevTrek - there was a character they would use called "Ensign Expendable" - a red shirt that always died.
Through many years of use Ensign Expendable became Expendable, and then because that was too long and some sites have an 8 char limit, and other games do, ended up taking some vowels out and then became Xpndable - has been like that for about 5 years
I have had three names over the course of my life.
The first was Darth Bruton. This came about as I had no idea what to name my XBL account and figured "I've always wanted to be a sith" and came up with 'darth'. The second half was just ripped straight out of my last name, Bruton. Hence Darth Bruton was born and is still used as my XBL name since.
My second was EoWxBrutos. This is after I joined an xbox clan with my best mates called EoW or 'Eve of War'. EoWxBruton didn't sound cool so I subbed the 'n' for an 's' and that name was born for PC use. That name is now retired.
My final one was ShockWave. This was just a spur of the moment. Sick of using EoWxBrutos (and being kicked from EoW for a false claim of 'attacking' other players in the clan) I decided to change my name. I'm not really sure how it came to mind but I had always liked the name ShockWave. Ever since I have been in 2 SCII clans using this name. QEDShockWave and AxS.ShockWave are now retired.
My latest name AxS.Telrunya was rather simple. after learning of a ShockWave in the ACL I was forced to name change once again. After having a blank and several suggestions, I was torn between AxS.Nareik and AxS.Telrunya. NareiK comes from my name, Kieran, spelled backwards. Telrunya is my last name, Bruton, translated into elvish using this site below
I wanted something small, one word, and catchy, because I saw pro players with small catchy names like -
IdrA
Machine
PartinG
sOs
HerO
Taeja
Flash
Bisu
Jaedong
I wanted something with four letters, to keep the little name catchy.
It was about the same time I was over in England and reading a manga called Souleater, I was a big fan.
So on the loneseome plane ride home, I had roughly 20 hours to think about it..
It wasn't until my book was half hanging out of my bag, with only the "Soul" part of the title visible that it clicked! Soul was to be it!
Well, until I found out I have more swag if I have it as SouL.
XBL: First gamertag was HaloRef -- i was a referee for halo tournaments in my early years.
Second gamertag: CCsFluffyVeggie -- i liked a girl named CC at the time (Cecilia) and FluffyVeggie was along FuzzyBunny and FluffyBunny the canadian 2v2 team at WCG nationals back in 2005
Third gamertag: DoMeDrunk -- the Do Me clan with some college girls lol.... long story
Fourth gamertag: Giraffapuss -- Half Giraffe half octopus im uncomfortable on land AND sea!
Starcraft: Narse - Narse was one of the 5 dragons in Record of Lodoss Wars... i felt him the most bad ass.

Throughout my gaming I've had 3 Names,
Warcraft 3 & World Of Warcraft i was Bloomie (NE Druid pretty easy why i came up with that one)
Starcraft & Brood War & CounterStrike i was Denial and Inspyr
Starcraft 2 just wanted a fresh start with "distyL"
Just thought it was catchy, looked neat with the capital and was a catchy 1 word name.
It started with WoW. I saw a level 19 twink back in the day called Mcdaddydad, as I was playing soldier front at the time and the most popular names were jDizzle xFizzle etc, I thought it would fit.
Later I was getting bored at the time of the name Mcdaddydad and couldn't think of anything else (I was 15 at the time) and one day (don't hate plz it's my body and I do what i want) Me and my friends got so bored we decided to revisit our terrible childhood game. Runescape. I used the random name generator and it gave me the name "NiceLiquid".
Started playing Sc2 and later joined mGG. I wanted to use the free name change to add in the clan tag but I wasn't sure what to call myself. I decided on mGGCyclone (with the input of other clan members) and went with that for a bit. I watched the vods of cws and decided it didn't have a nice ring (with the help of clan members) to call myself mGGLiquid.
tl;dr Random name generator gave me NiceLiquid added clan-tag to mGGLiquid #swaq.
I was new. Just like Day9, I wanted a short word. But I wanted a word that described me correctly in every which way.
Novice.
And then I fell in love with that Guide 2 portrait (IIRC, it was guide 2), a pandamarine portrait. And then a Pan-Terran decal.
Thus the name Novice Pandamarine.

mGG is stealing ToRs IDs i am going to rename to switchdick
first played cs beta 4 with my brother at a lan shop, asked him what i shold call myself. he said 'shit stained arse' jokingly, and i was like lol ill use that, over time shortened to arse, and then arze since arse is not allowed on bnet!

I used to love trolling in Call of Duty before I got into competitive and I made my trolling name Delinquio (Latin for Delinquent...See what I did there?) And that stuck with me through three years of competitive CoD and still competitive Starcraft
My rogues name in World of Warcraft was Nimbleninja and had that for like 7years so i kinda kept it for SC2 but took out the ninja. nothing really fancy!!
Back when I was in school I had a work-experience placement at an IS service centre. One of the most horrid jobs I've had. Boss couldn't remember my name and kept referring to me as "Joe", and all I ever did was make coffee for people. Thus my alter ego, and gaming name "Coffeejoe", came about.
Back in 2010 when I was making my account I had a lot of pimples. So my brother suggest I call myself pimple but battlenet wouldn't accept pimple with one "i" as it was offensive somehow, so we just spelt it with two.
If you ask me Im gonna change my name to PuMiCe I got that when my best friends name in sc2 is OBSIDIAN so its a kind of rock. So I researched about stones and saw this.
:P

I ran out of xbox live at one point so I made another account to get the free one month trial, and the random gt I got was VentralPeaches34. I thought it sounded quite hilarious, then I looked up what ventral meant; turns out it's anything to do with the underside of an animal. ) Since then I've gone with things to do with Ventral: VentraL, Ventrality, VentralComic, etc.
Seeing as this thread got a necro, and I'm bored, I'm gonna contribute to this, so enjoy my story:
It started in Dark Reign with (embarrassment) 'DarkdoodMan', I have no idea why, but i was 11-12 years old so i have forgiven myself.
EDIT: I actually remember: I think there was a movie called Dark Man, I actually haven't seen it, but being super cool i added dood in the middle of it, even tho it is spelt wrong
Then came Tribes 2 - 'BioFreak', which I got from the game "Biofreaks" which was advertised on the back of the Tribes 2 cd case cause i couldn't think of anything better. This name lasted several years until I got older again and I stopped liking the name.
So I started using PressureTested, which I got from a Grinspoon song - PressureTested 1984. and I've had the ID ever since!
2nd EDIT: how could I forget my broodwar name omg! 'InViDiouS_" <- used the whole time in sc1, got it from word of the day on dictionary.com i think?
my friends and teammates call me ice so i thought why not make it my IGN.... they call me ice because i have "ice" running through my veins which means i can cope with pressure
wooo reviving dead things. I got Japetto from high school. Was a nickname a bloke started randomly calling me. About three months later we realized he meant to call me Jiminey Cricket and he stuffed it up but Japetto stuck. I use it wherever I can!
Wish I saw this thread last year, but anywayyyy...
As some of you may know, I was eMp.RavensScout (was simply called Darrell, yes Matt..) before. I got the name from my friend when around 6-10 of us in our year level still played sc2 and that we called the group "Ravens". Since I was the best at scouting among all of us, that's how "scout" happened.
After months of playing and with eMp dying out leading to me moving to AxS, I name changed to ProzeR. I got ProzeR from my NA smurf name, "ProZerRanDom" which is Protoss, Zerg, Terran and Random my clan mates from OD said that the name was too long so I changed it to ProzeR
I remember I came up with my ID only 3 years ago, i used to watch this anime (Fullmetal alchemist) and i really liked the name fullmetal, but since that ID is taken on most games I thought about how awesome David Bowie is and added his name to me incorrectly spelt thus resulting in Fullmetalbawie.
I originally was called moSdef from my call of duty days , because my love for hip hop and
the rapper mos def, but then I thought It was time for change , and iv really liked the name natuRe.. but when I think about it , I wouldent mind going back to moSdef
Mine is quite simple. Its my original x box user name that i had way back [ must of had it for about 8 years or so now lol]. Always been a fan of metal and at the time was really getting into metalcore in particular and just went with it.
Its good though, sometimes random opponents on ladder have a convo with me about music cos they see we like the same type of music.
My name goes back to the first game I ever played online, and that was Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
I called myself Balimaar initially (naming myself after a barbarian chieftain who tortured a Roman general in the old move Fall of the Roman Empire) and while I was learning the maps I used the SMG weapons for my side.
Now like in a lot of FPS games people have this idea that only snipers take any sort of skill. So any time I killed someone they would try to call me a bastard.
Problem there was that the server chat filter would change bastard to bass fish.
So after a day or two of playing I decided to make everyones lives easier and call myself Balimaar The Bass Fish
I used to go by DarKnight_1 in most games I played and its still my nickname amongst my closer buddies. That name suits me too well.
I don't have much of a social life, therefore i was determined to have one in the Starcraft realm. I wanted more people to say hi to me, so "Hey Rob" seemed pretty legit, but i didn't want it to be so obvious.
Replace "Hey" with "Hay" and we have hayrOb. The rest is history. (:
