Welcome to the sc2sea.com GPD Open.

The sc2sea GPD is a 64 player, single elimination tournament.
It will be conducted every 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month.
If there is a major tournament on that particular Sunday, the tournament may be postponed by a week (look out for annoucements).

The winner of each GPD open is awarded with one hour of professional coaching from a coach in this thread (link) . Winner should contact the coach directly, state which GPD Open he/she had won, preferably before each GPD Open Season ends.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

+ [Tournament Eligibility] +

• Players must have their own SEA account; playing on another's account is not allowed.
• You must be , or on any of the 4 servers (SEA, NA, KR or EU).
• You should not be and above in this season (2014 Season 4) and/or had been in the last (2014 Season 3) on ANY server. *subject to change/update each season*
• If you have achieved on any server in HOTS, you will not be allowed to join. The only exception being if you have achieved on only SEA server before Season 2 2014 but not been since (SEA or any other server, you will be allowed to join this tournament).
• Example : If you were briefly on SEA server even though on all other servers in Dec 2013 or Jan 2014 but not past Season 1 2014 since and never been on any other server and have satisfied above conditions, you will be allowed to take part in the GPD Opens.

• If you are joining this tournament for the first time, you are encouraged to post the links for your valid b.net sc2 profiles on the servers you play on in the signup thread.
• If the Admins should request for it during the tournament, please cooperate.
• It may be necessary for the Admins to do a quick verification especially when questions have been raised with regards to your league. Failure to do so or to cooperate, will be deem suspicious and you will be disqualified from the tournament.
• Smurfing and Cheating will result in a ban from the GPD Opens.

• Winners of consecutive (back-to-back) GPD opens are respectfully asked to skip a week before joining the GPD Opens again.

+ [Contacting opponents and time limit] +

• You must contact your opponent on Battle.net preferably by being in the group “sc2seaGPD” to play your matches.
• All games should be played on SEA [priority server] unless both players agree to play on NA and have informed an admin. You must both then report back immediately.
• ALL players are given 15 minutes to contact their opponent.
• Anyone that cannot be contacted will be disqualified.
• If a player cannot be contacted in 15 minutes because of an unavoidable real life event but was able to get someone to contact an Admin or gave notice by pming someone of the delay, they will be given an additional 10 minutes before disqualification.

• Players must play your Ranked 1v1 Ladder race throughout the tournament.
• If you intend to play a ladder race different from your main, please inform an Admin to seek permission.
• players are not allowed to race pick unless an Admin has been informed and permission given prior to the games to be played.

+ [Disconnect or away for known reason] +

• If any player disconnects, use the “Recover from Replay” feature to continue the game. This applies in the event of a second disconnect.
• If the player has gone offline for more than 10 minutes, inform an Admin immediately
• If the player continues to disconnect, the opponent may be awarded the match.
• If the player has given a valid and acceptable reason to be away in between matches or games, the acceptable wait time will be maximum 15 minutes or by the goodwill of his/her opponent before disqualification. The admins will consider each case separately. Delays are not preferred whenever possible.

• Bad manners are not tolerated.
• Pauses should be notified and not exceed 5-10 minutes depending on the reason for the said pause.
• BMing or excessive pausing in game will result in a warning.
• Persistent BMing will result in a disqualification.
• BMing includes racist, hateful or excessively derogatory language will result in a disqualification and a review to impose either a timed or full ban.

Any disputes will be handled by the Admins after reviewing all associated replays.
Any question(s) can be directed at the Admins.
Please be honest and truthful to ensure the best experience for all.
All participants are encouraged to keep their replays for at least a week.
Smurfing and/or hacking will result in a disqualification and ban from subsequent tournaments

For Variety and to add some elements of Surprise, the prize pool may vary for each GPD Cup.
Format : Double Elimination
All spots must be taken.
So for all available spots or if any of the qualified players are unable to make it, even if it is on the actual day, wild card players will take their spots.

What is new...

Not much tbh but the interest and discussion about ladder maps and map pools etc had me thinking on a few issues.

#1 : "Why do we have to limit ourselves to 7 maps in the ladder map pool?"
hmmmm good question. While the number of maps on the ladder is still fixed at 7, it will now be 9 for GPD opens. More choices, more variety, more rotation.

#2 : "Why doesnt Blizzard include Out Boxer in the ladder map pool after so many requests to do so?"
hmmmmmmmmmmm.... ok we heard you. Out Boxer may not be in the ladder map pool but it will be in the GPD opens.

#3 : "The new maps look.... new o_O"
That's why we are keeping King Sejong Station to balance out the newer 4 maps until everyone is more familiar with them.

PS : One more consideration
#4 : "Can we start BO3 at round of 16 instead?"
Let's try this out this season and see how that goes So BO3s will start one round earlier and we'll see the impact of that to the duration of the tournament etc.

Any chance we can run it on KR server this week? The perth to SG line is down and anyone in central/west australia will easily get over 200 ms instead of the 180ish they would get on korea.

I am in adel and I am getting atm 220ms SEA and 180KR! For me is better to play on NA than SEA aswell.

Line has an est time of fix but no real time!

You can discuss with your opponent to play on another server for your games. Just keep the admins in the loop of things so that we are aware. Will need to know exactly how many people are affected since not everyone is affected by this.

Also, if anyone have eligibility doubts and queries, feel free to speak to me directly. e.g. if you are diamond this season but have decided to race change, hence is uncertain whether you are still eligible, we will view it case by case OR if still unclear about the SEA gm conditions etc etc.

With that post in mind can you change the map pool back to the previous map pool since most of us can't even practice decently on ladder with the new maps not even out yet? So that we can be more familiar with the maps instead of playing with maps most of us aren't even familiar with yet?

Just my 2 cents.

I actually added more of the old maps back so it's 5 of the current seasons 4 of the new and outboxer. So you guys can stick to the 5 familiar and outboxer or have the option to explore the 4 new ones.

Some concerns that were pm'd to me or in the chatbox etc which I read briefly.

Eros, Azz and South are cleared to play. I have done my profile checks and spoken to the different players etc. All 3 players have not achieved GM in Hots. Not masters last season except for South. All 3 are currently Diamonds. I've also noted the match histories of these players.

South however is joining GPD Opens as a non Protoss. He will not be playing as Protoss and the reasons are he has plans to race change. I have observed numerous 1v1s of him playing as zerg and even as terran and am satisfied that the level of play is not higher than diamond. (In fact, I think most diamonds own him but dont tell him I said that) [Someone convince him to say Protoss please ]

Eros will be late. Unfortunately the grace period as said above if he is going to be late is a max of 25 minutes or by the grace of his opponent.

I am aware that some of you are worried because they are known to be good or at least playing at competitive levels in the past. If GPD Opens is a platform that can help them get back the passion and motivation to be good again, they will not stay GPD for long anyways and will be promoted hopefully soon when #dedication and #passion kicks in. Meanwhile, I would like to encourage everyone to take up the challenge to take them down The current have proven they are no pushovers and players can knock out .

With this I encourage everyone to take up the challenge and do your best and have fun whilst at it.

If there is another player or 2 in the list that I need to look into please feel free to pm me so that I can do my checks. Dont whine, get upset and grumble in silence. Let me do my job to ensure that these people do meet the minimum requirements.

This GPD Opens have seen many tough decisions to be made. The hardest one I had to make was when we were waiting for the finals to be played between Coolbeans vs CasualPlayer. As some of you might had read, he had requested for 20 mins to be away. He did mention that if there was a need for a walkover, to award it. Unfortunately he was away for at least 30 minutes instead. When the games between CasualPlayer vs Prozer ended, I had to make the decision on what to do if he was away for much longer. So I gave the call that Coolbeans had a last 10 minutes grace period before the walkover was done to allow Ravenflames to reenter the brackets. We pm'd Ravenflames to return to the game. I also pm'd coolbeans at about the 10th minute mark and waited for another minute before telling Ravenflames that he could have the spot. They had already created the lobby but just at that moment, CasualPlayer went afk for a minute the game was not started when Coolbeans returned.

The situation turned awkward and I had to think about and consider everything. Hence, I decided that Ravenflames will take the spot as decided before Coolbeans returned and so the finals was between Ravenflames and Casualplayer.

Coolbeans was a true gentleman and understood the decision. For that I am thankful and wish more players as like him. The reason for him being away longer than normal is actually a pleasant one which I will not elaborate since it's personal and for him to share.

Even then it bugged me because it was a really difficult decision to make and I wanted to be fair to both Ravenflames and Coolbeans.

So I have decided that all three players will qualify for the GPD Cup #1 2015 on the 1st March 2015 (Sunday).

I would like to receive feedback on the introduction of round 16 BO3. This was based on the feedback that some players had previously given that they wish round 16 is a BO3 also because if we had just over 16 players and there are non reporting players that they be forced to play bo1 instead of BO3s (previous format). If the response remains favourable, round 16 will remain as BO3s.

As for BO3, I would think they are a good inclusion, but maybe not necessary for less than 32 competitors? Top 16 out of 64 should be BO3 in my opinion.

Double elimination is used for the GPD Cup and even for 8 players it can last for 3 hours.
So the best would be the current situation for round of 16 onwards to be all BO3s.

Based on other feedback from pms as well as the ones mentioned above, I think it is safe to say this format will stay. BO3s will start from Round of 16 regardless of whether we get only 16 players or less or more than 16 players. So the format remains as one in a way and no one needs to ask the question whether Round of 16 is BO3s or BO1s anymore
