I like cheese, both in game and out, live in Adelaide and enjoy SC2, Smash Bros and Deadman Wonderland (a manga).

Tell us more about your SC2 journey. How long have you played, and what were your greatest moments?

ToR.Luneth:
I've played since the start 2011 and joined ToR in mid 2011 where I started to improve. I mucked about in

for a long time before I finally got promoted to

. At end of WoLm I got

My greatest moment would probably be my (successful) mothership rush in a 4V4 vs mGG (Clan metaGameGods) to send off

You went through a group of death all

ETL.NaMeK. How did you do it?

ToR.Luneth:
I have this idea that if I see early double gas (15 15) it almost never means robo, instead being an early sentry expo, stargate or DTs of their own. I think the best way to counter that is to go for a hidden DT rush which was succesful. I noticed

VB.Enak scouted late in the first game so I proxied 2 gates in the second.

Against

ETL.NaMeK, it was early expo vs early expo with mine being quicker, I sniped his Mothership Core and his army got trapped and died. Again

ETL.NaMeK scouted late so I just proxied 2 gates in game 2 and won.

AxS.SouL:
Thanks! Well, not much to tell, I'm just a kid from Adelaide that plays the OP race

. I play Warhammer 40K from time to time, but most of my spare time is devoted to school. Used to play sports, but injuries made sure that the only sport I will play again is eSports.

ToR.Elusory:
You've advanced through the Ro16 as 1st place, winning 2-1 for each series you played. Wanna walk us through your games?

AxS.SouL:
The Ro16 for me;

First off I had to take on

eMp.Infected, this was scary as he just came off an all-kill against ETL's GPD team, but I had to put my fear behind me and just accept my fate.

Game 1 against this

from eMp was played on the map Yeonsu, very distasteful for me, I hate the map. I decided to proxy 2 gate in his base because I felt like opening up with such a suicidal cheese would keep him on his toes early on in the set, he hatched first and I walked in with 3 zealots. 1-0 for me.

Game 2 was a completely different story, I felt like I was in the lead for parts of the game, sniping hatches and keeping macro up, but I over committed and ended up losing 5 Colossus to viper pull backs into waiting roach hydra. 1-1 tied up.

Game 3 I felt the nerves, I opened up with a 1 gate expand into 4 gate pressure but some part of me told me to not grab the nexus but to instead tech to DT as fast as I could while keeping the pressure up. My attacks with gateway units were largely ineffective but by the time he mustered enough roaches to move out, I had killed the rocks with aleast 7 DT (this is Akilon) and I just ran past the defences at the front into the main.

A dirty 2-1 victory for me.

Then I had to vs my clan mate

AxS.indursex.
Game 1 was just me 4 gating like an idiot, which I lost quite convincingly. 0-1 to him.

Game 2 was a nice macro game where my DT harass kept him down on bases and his sick multi prong drops kept me down on workers all game long.
It eventually ended up turning into a deathball v deathball scenario but I hit just before Ghosts could affect the game and with a +1 upgrade advantage to crush his army. 1-1.

Game 3 I opened up with a 1 gate DT expand into 3 gates, I killed him before the game went any longer. 2-1 to me.

So yeah.. I love DT's but don't expect me to use them every game

My name is Kong, and I'm 14. I started playing StarCraft at the age of 9, and practising has been everything to me in StarCraft 2. I always watch GSL and try to become better. My dream is to be a champion like Life! My English name is Kong, Vietnam name is Khang.

Tell us how are you feeling after advancing through your group with 1st place.

FS.Totodile:
Pretty great! I had my team Fusion Slugs supporting me, always wishing me luck. When I told them I advanced to the Ro8, they were typing "GJ" and all that. So I'm pretty happy representing Team FS.

ToR.Elusory:
Walk us through your games in the Ro16.

FS.Totodile:
I started off vsing

ToR.missAsuzy. I was feeling pretty intimidated because he was in Silicon Sports Academy. I thought they had pretty hardcore training for him, but I pulled myself together and remembered that I had been through lots of practice, so it was my time to shine.

In Game 1, I opened up muta ling baneling, and used separate groups of banes and lings to kill his army efficiently and killed some widow mines in the process. I then transitioned into Ultralisks, which then pretty much he GGed out.

Game 2, he did an early push with a bio force. That kept pushing me back, and then I was forced to GG because my minerals were so high and I didn't have any larvae.

Game 3, I used Soulkey's roach ling bane muta strategy. I prepared this for 5 days to use against my opponent, and I managed to pull it off. Eventually, I took a good win against SLCNA's

ToR.missAsuzy. 2-1!

My second opponent was

MTi.MrLando. In Game 1, I followed the same strategy as I used in Game 1 with

ToR.missAsuzy. The standard 3 hatch at 6 mins, then I did the same ling bane and spread lots of creep tumours. I scouted 2 factories, so I was like, alright, hellions because of the reactors. I created 16 lings to defend it with 1 queen, and then transitioned into ultralisks and he killed my spire. By then, I needed to save the rest of my mtas in case of drops. I had 10 mutas and 9 ultras with the rest lings and banes. I traded efficiently enough for him to tap out GG. A great start to the game for me 1-0!

In Game 2, I did the same thing again, but this time he destroyed my 4th several times. I was attacked early at my 3rd which I defended with 14 banes and some lings, and then rushed into ultras. At the 12 minute mark, I started destroying his 4th and 3rd, then I did a ling runby which destroyed pretty much of all the things in his main base while he was focusing on my army. I had almost 15 ultras in the army and I split it evenly. 7 to kill the army with ling and banes, 8 to kill off the main and the natural including the reinforcements. He lifted his buildings and tried to escape but I remember having 10 mutas. So I tracked the CC down and he was forced to tap out! A great 2-0 for me.

ToR.Elusory:
Seems like you have pretty solid play! You'll face

AxS.indursex in the Ro8. How are you feeling and how will you prepare against him?

FS.Totodile:
I'm pretty prepared to play against him. I seemed to have faced him last time in a clan war and I'm pretty sure I won. I've got plenty of tricks up my sleeve and who knows, there might just be another clean sweep!

I see. Your thoughts on advancing through the Ro8 with 2nd place?

MTi.MrLando:
I'm surprised my TvZ has been so bad lately, it's usually my best match up by far. I feel quite lucky to not face many

because it's my weakest match up. Overall, I feel good for getting through.

ToR.Elusory:
Care to walk us through your games in the Ro16?

MTi.MrLando:
I played

TCP.Rendorian first and then a

player. I think my TvZ was solely solid in those games. I just played normal 3 CC stuff pretty simple.

Player 2 was

FS.Totodile who had my number. My pushes were pretty crushed I seemed to kill his fourth a lot. But he managed to get 3 bases and tech to ultras to roll me over both games. Game 2 was a lot closer because I noticed a mine at this third got 25 drone kills which was nice. I tried a 2 basey more style that worked better but didn't do enough damage in the end.

Player 3 was

ToR.missAsuzy. Game 1 was pretty solid TvT, I went double rax reaper becasue it's so good on Yeonsu and it worked quite well to contain him and annoy him whilst I transitioned into a solid macro game.

Game 2 was a lot closer. I can't believe I won to be honest. I went 1 rax fast expand refused to scan his main because I love greed and was punished for it. His hellion marine drop killed a buttload of SCVs. However, I made bio and flanked a lot, sniepd his third and dropped the main to slow him down a bit, the drops kept me in the game. Eventually, I forced him to try push my natural and then I won.

I'm feeling alright, hopefully I can play well. I've been playing on KR against many

player from New Zealand, representing the clan VB. I'm finishing off my Bachelor of Sport with a major in coaching in a couple of weeks' time, really looking forward to that. Play and coach football as part of my degree as well.

Coming from VB, a clan full of

players I was really happy, yet concerned at the fact it was all gonna be PvP.

ToR.Elusory:
You went 0-2 and then 2-0 twice in a row. Walk us through your games?

VB.Enak:
First set vs

ToR.Luneth felt really frustrating, Game 1 I made 2 massive errors that cost me the game. I scouted heavily for any proxy plays but then lost my probe before any ranged unit got on the field which left me in the dark. My robo was late and I missed my forcefield to keep his dts out, so lost Game 1.

Game 2 was really unlucky for me, I scouted my main base and natural for proxy gates and barely missed them by a hex or 2 with my scouting probe going to my 3rd, really messy start for me.

Second set vs

AxS.Kite, Game 1 we both opened really similar. I got aggressive and ended up doing a lot of damage to his economy in the mid-game and sniped his main and 3rd within 20 seconds of each other which left him in a near unrecoverable position and I took Game 1.

Game 2 was tough,

.AxS.Kite had adjusted really well from Game 1 and we ended up having a near 35 minute macro-fest with all bases being fought for with harassment from both players all over the place. I had the watch tower and the high ground, got a really nice engagement and it snowballed for me and was relieved to get the 2-0.

Third set vs

ETL.NaMeK, Game 1 was close throughout the game, I harassed and did damage to get a narrow lead which lasted through the game, we both maxed out and were trying to find the best way to engage each other. While

ETL.NaMeK went to deny my 4th, I managed to catch 3 colossus for free, trapped him and took a good engagement to get a 1-0 lead.

Game 2 was more of the same, early game harass from both players, killing off 5-6 probes each, my expansion was a lot quicker, eventually went all in off 2 bases and took Game 2.

I just want to confirm, since i am Canadian in a different time zone... did these need to be played on a specific day, or we would have a week to play our matches?

Reading further i guess that only is required for RO32 and RO16.

For the time being i would like to sign up based on the first two rounds are non specific dates and are based on "whenever we can get them done by X date".

Have been GM but kicked due to inactivity. If anyone knows anything about the masters/gm league on SEA you'll know it's pretty much the same skill level @ high diamond as it is at masters/gm. Hope I can still play. Would really love to be part of the scene.

Totoile, I'm really sorry because I really cannot let you participate. Most of us here have a common agreement that the GPD opens or clan wars has always been for people who are GPD on AM or SEA. I'm not trying to pick on you here. The purpose of such tournaments are to hopefully motivate people to improve to a higher skill level. You are already of a certain skill level being Diamond in Korea (at HotS Season 4 for the record...), so I don't see a point of motivating you to improve even more! Furthermore, my concerns are people might be saying "Hey why did you let a Diamond KR join" "Hey why don't you allow masters as well". You can always join Masters Cup today and take a shot at winning the money.

Don't worry.. currently there are plans of running a Masters League with the same format as GPDL. You will be able to join that when we decide to run it.

Hope you really understood what are my concerns here. Once again, I'm very sorry to turn down your application.

Totodile, the main point is that the skill level in Korea is obviously higher than the skill level in SEA. We understand the fact that you are Diamond yes, but the skill level of being a Diamond in Korea ISN'T the same as being a Diamond in SEA.

Normally, being a Diamond in Korea is equivalent to being a Masters or Grandmaster player in SEA. Even if you cheesed your way it still doesn't remove the fact that you are in Diamond League in Korea.

If you want you can follow Hwang's suggestion and get placed in Masters in SEA.

TL;DR Even if you qualify for something doesn't mean its right to play in it.

Totodile, as what FracTaL has said, if you have gotten to Diamond on KR server it means you have the capabilities to beat the players there and get there. So what if you have cheesed and gotten there? You can cheese throughout the tournament too in that case. So your cheese is Master level on AM and SEA right?

Yes, ex-masters can participate because they are -EX- masters. You are CURRENTLY in Diamond on KR server. Because of HotS, many people have gotten masters not because they were suddenly damn good at the game, but because there was this influx of new players who bought HotS just to play the campaign, then play some casual 1v1. Those are the players who would just hit Platinum at most, Diamond if they learn the ropes fast. Hence, us "veterans" who have already played since WoL times would have an edge against these new players. Since leagues are distributed by how well you're doing compared to the whole lot of population on the ladder also and not by your APM, macro skill or whatever, many people managed to squeeze into the coveted "Top 2% of the active population" during that period of time. At around Season 3, it was when the casual players stopped playing already, only leaving us "veterans" again to scrim on the ladder against each other. Now that we're at Season 4 already, you being Diamond on KR really has something to say about your skill level.

I really hope you do understand where I am coming from about this. Once again I am truly sorry for not allowing you to join this tournament. As I've mentioned before, plans of a Masters League are in the making, so do stick around to sign up for that one alright?

Totodile the point is you have been masters before and are therefore ineligible for a GPD tournament. This is very obvious and is a non negotiable. It doesn't matter what rank you are now on whatever server.

Also its a bad decision to compare diamond across servers. If totodile is diamond and has never achieved higher he should be eligible for a GPD tourney. Im quite confident he has got masters on NA though, so its a moot point. Its simple, once you reach masters you are in a new bracket of players and like any other bracket there is a bottom. You will probably now be near this bottom, be a man (/woman ^^), take the challenge and move up it. Dont look back and try to compete at the top of the old and "easier" bracket

I'm a little confused.

So Diamond on KR means they cant play as well? If that is what I'm reading right, then I think it has to be stated clearly because there are ex masters that I can see signing up for this. And from what I heard, some maybe diamond or even be masters from NA or KR (even briefly like 1 season) not just SEA masters or gms. And it is possible for some of the people listed signing up for this who might be Diamond KR (currently) as well but just that we do not know or they have not said it, either because this just popped up?

I see this currently as it's totodile and we know what he is like or capable skill wise. But unless it is clearly stated that diamond KR do not qualify, there might be others like him who equally would need to know that they cant sign up for this.

Otherwise, this matter does appear unfair towards totodile.

Perhaps a little bit of misjudgement here on my part as well. I've started this tournament, indicating that it's GPD while assuming that Diamond on KR has always been seen as Masters on AM or SEA. I guess if there are people who are still Diamond on AM or SEA, and at the same time Diamond on KR, Totodile would then be allowed to join...

as i have been planning again.

I don't expect to be realized as P/D level because of the recent masters status, but cheese and retarted MMR systems kind of put me there.

I understand many of you may think 'what if more diamond kr players join?!' rest assured. We WILL have a season 1 review and will take necessary steps to ensure a fair and fun competition for everyone. Feedback is welcomed.

What people need to realise in regards to the leagues on SEA is that at the masters/GM level. There are literally no active players. Because of this, top Dia players get catapulted into GM when other ppl get kicked for inactivity. You just have to look at the masters/gm leagues to know. There are probably 20 GM's instead of 200. Anyone who is actually GM/masters lvl plays on KR or NA because it actually has competition. I personally feel like GM and masters is just an extension of high diamond.

As for Diamond KR, has it actually been empirically proven that the skill cap at Dia is that much higher on korea? I'm sure that everyone agrees that GM and Masters level KR is obviously a much higher skill level, but is Dia actually that much different? KR still has casual players like SEA too..

I think everyone's opinions is enough proof... It is not that difficult to understand.

Dia has a much higher skill level in KR, SEA GM/M is irrelevant and you are correct HOWEVER Dia on KR is Masters on NA or EU (maybe not for really low dia)... If you are that ******* desperate to play in a GPD or are just too scared to play in M/GM competitions why not just ladder on NA for a while so we can properly gauge your skill rather than just repetitively asking on whether or not you can play...

It is ultimately totodile's decision to join or not. I believe he should be allowed. Your opinion on him may or may not matter to him.

Like what we have said. we discourage ex-masters but will not stop them.

We will have a plan of action after season 1. I'm not saying ALL diamond kr players will be able to play forever. We just want to see how it turns out.

TL;DR: It is his decision to play, give us season 1 to review how we can make it better.

My basic thoughts

a) SEA ladder rank is worthless... The server is now so tiny, so full of players of hugely different skills at each level, that I think we are at the time where we should really be planning to use a different server as the "base" for league rankings and as a community we should try and agree on these or try and get our players to play on said server

b) The whole ex masters things is a cluster you know what, every time....

Note: Personally I am not going to comment on the Totodile situation, I'd support whatever decision admins make, I could see it go either way based on how the rules are written.

I just see those two points becoming more and more of an issue and I think we really should think about coming up with alternatives...

I have laddered NA for ages. I posted a link to my NA profile which has a tonne of games. I reached masters one season on there and struggled. Never been back into masters on NA, only dia.

I'm not desperate by any stretch of the imagination, I just want to play competitive games in a tournament setting. I played in the Masters Cup and lost my first game that wasn't a walkover 2-0 to a meching terran.

Also if you'll check my posts, I have not been repetitively asking to play. My initial post was an application to the tournament, my second was the addition of my NA account for further info to help people make a decision about my eligibility, and the other posts have all been contributing to the discussion of eligibility of KR dia or GM/M SEA.

Sometimes I wonder if people actually read posts before replying.

if we have up to 39 participants, we'll trim it by holding two 4 player brackets. Sorry for the confusing post

We can reschedule matches if needed and both parties agree. and tbh I don't see why I should have to fight for my spot :/ if I'm within the limit. Its OK I will go along with it but maybe next time just entire an entire limit on entries instead so either stop at 32 or go to 64 where some people would have an extra round.

Well, at 0 registration we straight out mentioned that the last 4 slots will be reserved for qualifiers if there are too many people joining. I feel that it's fair as long as we did not announce it at the 32 applicants point. So those who sign up early will get their spot reserved!

We're at the 32 participants mark and look all set to go ahead with the tournament. Just one last day of registration in case we need any form of qualifers! It is with mixed emotions I bring this tournament to an official close.

The winner of GPDL Season 1 (finally) has been crowned!

MTi.Carmour is your first season's champion! Unfortunately for

AxS.indursex, his recent activities have not helped him to fix a match with Carmour. Before I say what is going to happen next, I want to apologise to all participants who have in any way played a game with indursex. indursex will still be recognised for finishing in 2nd place, but he will not be receiving any form of prize. The money that was supposed to be given to the 2nd place will be given out to a random participant in the Ro32 (just like how there is a random $10 given out). The participant will be made known later in this post.

Prize will be confirmed with the players on Skype before sending it through Paypal.

I will be creating a thread soon about feedback for this tournament. Some things did not go the way we planned for it to be, which is a little sad. Much like how the way this tournament ended, it was as though the admins forgot about this tournament. But hey, with your support, we could probably see a Season 2 coming!

This is not a ToR scandal. I random-ed this number between 1 and 32 on the date of the first Below Master, and got the number 29. 29 would mean Group H, first player in the group (not finished as first in the group).

2nd place's prize:

[VB] Inter ($8)
Once again this is not a I-wanna-make-4th-place-feel-happier scandal. I JUST randomed the number, and got the number 28. I am not lying, RNG allowed me to get the number next to 29.

Thank you all for making this tournament possible, it is my first tournament organised and I'm happy that I managed to let a group of 32 people play as many games as they could in a GSL format tournament. Another big thank you to the people who saying nice and encouraging words to me while I was running the tournament as well! Also, not to forget those kind-hearted souls who decided to give their opponents more time even when they've already missed the deadlines for games. The SC2SEA community is more than happy to have these types of people!

Yes it is sad for the GPDL to end this way, but it was a whole lot of fun competing in it. You guys running the tournament did an amazing job! I really hope there will be a season 2. Oh yeah grats Carmour!

Pity we couldn't get a final, I did try to facilitate one. Thanks to all those involved who helped organise or stream/cast/play. Fun to play a tourny with a good format
