Respawn Melbourne Sc2 Lan, 26th January 2013: Start time 12pm Midday Sat 26th (Please be ready by 11am!) Format: Swiss bracket - open to all players. Top 8 then proceed into Double Elimination finals for a shot at the awesome prizes + $'s
Swiss Info/Format:
*
Swiss Bracket, Round Robin style, so we all play at the same time, same amount of games minimum. Winners play people who also are winning, Losers play people with few wins. The system balances out the games like that.
Due to this, we have to wait until everyone has completed the round before we can move onto the next one. This will give time for the earlier finishers to grab a drink, watch others play, do some leeching, etc. Please dont drag games out if you are sure to lose, eg float/hide buildings when your opponent is 4-5 bases up, etc. It’s a best of 3, so you have another chance, and everyone won't want to wait around forever.
Map pool:
All rounds are best of 3. Loser of first game picks 2nd map, opponent is allowed 1 veto. If a 3rd game is required, the loser of game 2 may select a map from the pool, excluding maps already played, opponent is allowed 1 veto.
*
Round 1 1st Map: WCS Anitga Shipyard
Round 2 1st Map: WCS Entombed Valley
Round 3 1st Map: WCS Cloud Kingdom
Round 4 1st Map: WCS Ohana
Round 5 1st Map: WCS Daybreak
*
* WCS = Blizzard World Championship Series versions. No gold bases, No close spawns. Otherwise, same as ladder 1v1 versions. To create, go starcraft up to left > to custom game, > create > search wcs + invite opponent. If you cannot find wcs for some reason, gsl version is fine too.
*
Map pool you can select from: WCS Cloud Kingdom, WCS Daybreak, WCS Entombed Valley, WCS Ohana, WCS Anitga Shipyard, GSL Metropolis

Tell Eddie (DevianT) results, and feel free to ask if need any help Results can be told in person or in game via private chat. If in game submit in format 2-0, 2-1, with winner clearly stated. If in person, please don't disturb Eddie if he is playing, there is no rush on results, wait until the match is finished.
If you don’t start your games within the required time, you shall be walked over for that round.
Additional rules:
All games must be played on the SEA (Australian) server. Game mode = melee, 1v1, Speed = Faster
Players who are more than 15 minutes late will be disqualified (unless admin has been informed why beforehand, and has been approved), their opponent will be given an automatic win for that round. If it happens a second time, you will be removed from the tournament. Reason for this is all games must conclude before we move onto the next round.
If any disconnects occur within the first five minutes of game-play, the match will be replayed. However if the disconnect occurs after five minutes of game-time, it may be replayed if both players agree. However if there is any concern from either player, then it is up to the discretion of the event admin to decide whether; A) the game is to be replayed, or B) player X/Y is to be awarded the win. A 3rd straight disconnect results in a loss of that game.
Any inappropriate behaviour will result in a disqualification
You are allowed to switch races at any time, but must inform your opponent if doing so
GAMES WILL START 12 (noon) SHARP. PLEASE SET UP BEFORE 11 AND READY BY 11:30.
THE SEATING AREA HAS ALSO MOVED, I WILL PUBLISH THE ARRANGEMENT IN THIS THREAD ASAP.
Congrats to the winners, we're looking to make the next competition even bigger and better.
- Live casting with Webcam
- More stage matches
- Even better SC2 seating position (compared to stage)
- More prizes (Bring in some other companies too)
- More PC's to hire
So what I need from Respawn SC2 goers is... What can we improve with the event? What do you want to see?

I think our current format is good for both casual and higher level players. Anyone disagree/have ideas for changes to it?
Live on site casters would need to be separated from the main gaming area, as it can be quite loud with other genres/competitions running.
Games on stage is fine, but the main respawn admins need to be behind this 100%, as not much point of players going up there if its not on the big screen.
Bringing in more sponsors/prizes might attract interest from out of state, which would be cool. High enough first place to make it worth while, while adding deeper prizes for 4th, 5th, 6th would also be great.
BYO pc can be an issue for some, and if we get people travelling from interstate, having pc's there to hire specifically for sc2 would be cool.
Also i expect interest in sc2 to be bigger for the next one due to HOTS release.

- I would look at putting casters near the admin desk (across from the food desk)
- I would love to see more games on the big screen
- There would likely be more product investment, which helps out those guys who attend every event but walk away with nothing
- We could look at having 2-3 PC's + monitors to hire out for sure
We're wanting to make the next Respawn event (April) a big SC2 and CS:GO event, so give us all the information/help that you can.
Help us help you!
The stage is a cool idea but the current setup shakes a LOT - just using the keyboard/mouse caused the screen to wobble. It can be quite off-putting; hopefully something can be done about it.
if your planning this respawn event to be as big as your saying.
then the startcraft 2 brackets are going to take a year and half to play through.
perhaps maybe a online qualifier? to pre seed players into brackets to maintain a smooth start?
Casting station sounds amazing, i'd love to see people up on stage really hyping it up!
and from past experiences it's the area's as to where i can kinda pack my gear without it being a hassle for everyone else.
maybe look into a area we can hire out to store goods for people close to the event?

Why is that?
We're running swiss bracket which means the same amount of rounds will be played no matter the amount of players.
It's worked fine across the first 3 Respawn Tournaments thus far.
Time is not really an issue at respawn. It's a 2 day lan.
With 25-30 players, swiss and top 8 de finals, we usually finish early morning, 1/2am. Could always finish later if required. It's a good test of endurance. Doesn't start as early as some other lans either.
If there is a massive increase in participation we could look at trailing best of 1's for the swiss stage, with more rounds, say 15, as standard 5/6 might not be enough to determine top players.
