Older Starcraft 2 players will remember

iceiceice

as the guy who came out of nowhere to get #2 in the Blizzard SEA internationals in 2010 and represent SEA at Blizzconn before quitting to go back DoTA2. He says he used to do well vs current GSL Champ Seed when they were both playing on the KR ladders and he misses playing Starcraft 2. Well last year his team walked away with $150,000 USD for finishing third. He was pretty pissed about it too because he felt they could have won the whole thing. This year his team is further strengthened by Singapore legends such as hyhy and the

Swedish DotA super star Loda who was credited for pioneering some revolutionary strategy, who interesting relocated to Singapore to be closer to his girlfriend... who is none other than kellyMILKIES

! He now plays in ice's team "Zenith". Zenith's team manager is furryfish and their training HQ is the Singapore Razer headquaters. Check out their training video done by Razer here.

How Do I watch?
All of the games can be watched, live or as replays, in Dota 2 for free. Every steam account has access to their Dota 2 Spectator Client. You can also catch the VODs on their youtube channel.

EDIT: No slickz, but Snoopy/blackshatan both played for my hon team in the past

great guys! Musica also played HoN for a SG clan.

These guys are effectively the same group of people from 2 or 3 dota wcg (asia), like 3 smm's and gamescom in 2003, as well as many others.

EDIT2: Also pretty sure it starts Thursday the 30th, not tomorrow!

Actually it starts tomorrow, 3 days of prelims, then 3 days of playoffs play starting on thursday.

edit: 6 days of nonstop dota2 action.
Each team will play every team in their groups for a total of 14 prelim games for each teams. then top 4 teams of each group will go to the winners bracket then the bottom 4 teams of each group will go to the losers bracket.

MUFC's spot was replaced by Mouz, who is the winner of Mouz vs WE (the 2 back-up teams to be called for the event). Apparently, Sharky, one of the MUFC's players lost his passport at the Hong Kong airport.

For those who have dota 2 and never tried the in-game spectator thing. give it a try, it is the best eSports viewing experience i have ever had.

Streams are NOTHING compared to this. You can choose the casters (language). choose to have their camera view or your own. The casters can draw on the screens (e.g. circling key areas or points of attack etc.)

And because of Valve's micro-transaction system, there's a Pennant system that allows you to win an in-game item while supporting your team. Simply buy the team's pennant that you wanna support ($0.99), and equip it. Then spectate their match and stand a chance to win a prize if they win (i think i got this right)!

SC2 has a lot to learn from this if the can actually do something similar!

Just to clarify that bit: if you equip the pennant while your team is playing, you have a chance of gaining an in-game dota2 item (one of the cosmetic items that you normally have a chance of getting) - however from what I hear there are some "special" TI2 items that are floating around

My next blog post is going to be about how incredibly "advanced" dota2 is already, compared to SC2. It's kind of insulting to SC2 that Dota2 has these amazing features and despite the claim of being "one of the best esports" SC2 has none of it.

The items from this are really cool, as far as i know the "items"" theselves are all the Couriers that are only available during the internation (Lockjaw, smeevil and the Drodo?),

The ones you can get via spectating are super-cool in that you can use them to bring up the replay of that game, 15 seconds before the "triggered" drop
- So lets say someone is playing tidehunter, blinks into a teamfight and uses his ulti, and for some crazy reason gets 2+ kills, the courier will have a functon that lets you go 15 seconds before this happened, so you can watch it again and again and again.

Drop triggers include
- Double Kill
- Triple Kill
- Anything above (They're separate instances - so 1 will be given out whent he double kill occurs, and another one when the triple kill occurs)
- Aegis Denies
- Aegis steals (i think)
- A win.

Its really damn shiok to watch. Cause u can listen to the casters and move your own camera OR you can follow the caster camera! And you have access to all the graphs!

yeah valve has been so amazing with dota2, while dota could never rival sc2 in gameplay, the UI and eSports initiatives they are making could really threaten sc2 as the lead esport. Valve has jumped in the drivers seat for dota2, while blizzard doesnt seem to be bothered either way what happens

Im asking purely from contemplating business side of things.

Streams are free and sponsors get logo's etc but watching ingame they get none of that. So if its free to watch in game as well makes me feel uneasy, but if you have to do micro transaction to watch ingame that = ******* amazing

The in-game maps have the teams "flags" in it, where logos and sponsors names are usually on it.

I meant from the tournament's point of view, for example the sponsors of the tournaments, they get exposure via on screen ads and statistics, but if they watch in game, so the only way to really make a return on it for the tournament itself, since they wouldnt be watching the streams, would be micro transactions to watch ingame instead of watching ads on stream,

Its probably in the pipeline for later but different for the international, really good feature if that is the case tho, will allow events to be self sustaining so much easier. Good times ahead for Dota2 imo

The international is free to watch, i know alot of other tournaments have a pay-to-watch ticket if you wanna watch via the ingame client, or you anw atch for free on their streams, some tournaments give you cool things if you buy a ticket, IE - The Defense season 2 ticket holders got a special edition "Defense" War dog Courier.

As well as what cyanide said- theres flags and sections on the map (like the each teams fountain) That has space where teams casn put their logo/sponsor logos etc, i know EG is showing their logo and the Monster logo at the mid-river, while their base has the raidcall logo. Its pretty cool, some other teams just show all their logos on all positions (Which is difficult to make out which is which in some locations, they're too small)
