WCS appreciation thread

For all those who loved wcs this weekend lets share the love!
  • Nick and the entire ACL team and all the Unknown volunteers who worked their assess of behind the scenes to make this possible
  • Intoccabile19 and his sick thread for helping arrange and manage the accommodation for the interstate fans!
  • Maynardes mcing and casting. Total boss mode activated - fitting in with the big guns like a seasoned pro. Just a year ago he was a regular joe on the forums and its his passion and love for the game that brought him here today, like many of the others in this list!
  • iaguz for bringing his axe
  • Hdpain whom werent as anticipated at the start... I thought they did a great job and spent much time researching our scene and it showed in their casting
  • Acl production team - top notch at every acl, now top notch and showing the entire sc2 world! I find the production as enjoyable as paid mlg streams... And its completely free with no ads! Who are the people behind this? Tell us your names please!
  • Dot for organizing that super cake for tasteless and all the lovely photos and everyone who donated to the cause! The community at its best, love how much cleaner our forums have become over the last few months, no more silly epeen bm and no more unnecessary drama
  • Dox being the link to the public and what was going on at ground zero and producing probably the best LR threads we have had
  • Infezas wonderful camera obsing which followed every single bit of artosis's detailed commentary. I think he picked up many fanboys on reddit, the worlds first professional observer?
  • The players for doing their best and producing sucg fantastic games and sportsmanship!

Share your experience and what u loved most about wcs!

Add in game 2 of GlaDe vs Knight as our equivalent to the Squirtle vs Mvp game on Metropolis!

But yes all these points are so true, was such an epic event

The emotion from all the players especially PiG and Tgun, the amazing job done by Maynarde, InfeZa and ofc Tasteless, Artosis, HD & Painuser

Some of the best ZvZs I have ever seen in my life, (and best ZvT ever Knight vs MGlade!!!!)

My favourite moment was when PiG beat Moonglade in the AUS Winners Brackets Finals and pulled his hand off his mouse to cheer (as he was about to win) before the game was over!!!

I was shouting, chanting, cheering, crying in my room wishing like hell that I had been there. Not even football got me that emotional.

Never before have I ever watched an event that I have been so emotionally invested in, even if it was just through a computer screen. Not GSl, not MLG, not Dreamhack. For me, this event has blown all of them out of the water. Then again this may be because I love this community and scene.

Also the non-stop comments about this particular player looking absolutely stunning on camera.

The players delivering a show, and really letting their emotions out in the booth and out the back. Hell, even Mafia double fist pumped!

Haha Light so photogenic! Great games again man

So much already said but just wanted to comment on the emotion part - I've never been as emotionally involved in any match as with tgun vs mafia. Both those guys are beyond heroes for that series. I am devoed we don't have a 3rd shang hai seed.

I definitely think that everyone involved deserves some special props for that. This weekend I saw heartache and elation, and it was definitely worth the trip and then some.

I can't big up the production enough inside the venue. The few issues there were were promptly fixed, and the on the fly reactions of staff to all these new situations were really great. I felt proud that this was the event we showed the world

Legionnaire's casting was really good - hopefully he can add his voice to some more games in the future?

Infeza's obsing... Well, just look at the comments on reddit. The love he's getting is more than deserved.

Intoccable gets a special mention for sorting out our accomodation outside the tournament too - no doubt I enjoyed the weekend way more since I didn't have to worry about anything like room bookings, etc - I was totally free to enjoy the matches.

Totally agree with iVnThatGuyDoMo and iM Light: I loved watching how emotionally invested all the competitors were. This meant a lot to them, and it showed.

Shout out to APL for organising an awesome barcraft as well,(this was my vantage point) and for getting Tastosis to come visit us at the Ship Inn! It was SOOO worth going! XD

Amazing Production
Amazing Casting
Amazing Games
Amazing Atmosphere

I was watching the stream non-stop over the 3 days and loved every bit of it (Except the downtime, but the wait is worth it )

Iaguz's axe.

The production was spot on. Really well done for the entire production team! Loved the camera work, always changing angles on the player's booths, crowd shots in-between games! The fact that the cameras were always moving in-between shots so that you would get a new angle to check things out is superb.
Stream overlays and graphics were spot-on. During downtime viewers would know what's coming up next via information on stream, and the Mods in chat. A few interviews were run during downtime and I personally wasn't a fan of the music so it was muted while I waited, but again, this didn't matter.
One thing to note is that I saw a live instant replay! done on stream, :O! Which I think is a pretty tough feat to pull off!
Downtime again seemed to be the main enemy of the event but I have no idea what was going on backstage so anything could have caused it.

Iaguz's axe.

Getting every player on the main stage and in the booth was just perfect. Catered event for the players (and the staff I hope :P) would mean a perfect environment for the players. It looked like players were on the ball on exactly what was going on and what's coming up! Brackets seems to run fairly consistently so there was no delays. Except Saturday, where it finished right on Midnight, close call! (Was there a presentation for the Aus finals? Not sure if I missed it?)
Loved the rotation of casters, breaking up the usual duo and getting a taste of everything, and mixing Maynarde in with them must of been heaven! Even getting Legionnaire on for a bit!

The games were the best I think we have ever seen in SEA Tournaments, few games might even be up there as the best in the world. (Tgun and Mafia, I'm looking at you.) Knight vs Moonglade was another one to keen an eye out for once the VODs get released (If you missed it).

Iaguz's axe.

Venue looked fantastic. Booths were amazing, casting desk, decorations around the event just looked perfect. It really looked like a mini GSL studio. Maynarde's MC was perfect, hyping up the crowd and getting them cheering for the players / casters was too good. I feel bad for the guy's voice today :P

Did I mention Iaguz's axe?

There were a few glitches on the stream (Some sound issues, missed transitions, etc.) But they are overshadowed by the amazing show that was put on.

11/10 ACL. 11/10 Blizzard. 11/10 Everyone who was involved in bringing this to life, and making history for Australian E-Sports.

EDIT: Oh the cake, how could I forget. Tasteless looked so amazed and lost for words when the cake was brought out, then when Tycus spoke directly to him, I think he was just blown away. Great job to all who helped making the cake thing work out, and props to Blizzard for getting Tycus to do some voiceovers for the event!

I had the greatest weekend watching two days/evenings worth of streams, drinking, getting my smoke on and painting warhammer while watching the games. So cool to see how strong the scene is becoming. Matches between Pig and Glade were amazing, also really enjoyed the epic match between Knight and glade. Next morning i woke up and started on filterscs zerg guide, lol...influenced by the glade/pig/mafia awesome.

Just to echo what everyone's pretty much said.

Not sure if it's any personal bias, but IMO the games played over the weekend were probably the most entertaining high level matches I've ever watched compared to ALL other international tournaments.

I was born with TW/KR blood, but grew up on SEA. I couldn't be more proud / humbled to be apart of such a amazing community.

Seriously sick sick sick sick sick job guys, all of you GG WP~!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watching the games, I was so proud of our players.
Watching the stream I was so proud of the production values.
Watching Maynarde I was so proud of Maynarde.
Reading Twitter I was so proud of the buzz that was just coming off from the event.
Watching the casters I was so impressed with how they delivered.
The whole package had me just having a blast.

Happiest moment: The Moonglade v PiG series. Such great play from both.
Best moment: Fist pumping and swearing at the screen during tgun v Mafia.

Family moments:
The missus felt well enough (she was super sick) to watch 'a game' with me early on Sunday. Who would've thought it'd go for 1hr+. She loved every bit. (Infeza is amazing)

And, getting ready on Saturday morning with Highlander Jnr.

Best weekend I've had for so god damn long. Massive thanks to ACL guys, crew and our players.

Mafia vs Tgun, final game, my throat was super super sore and I didn't cheer when they introduced the players or when they asked who would win.

That said, I couldn't resist screaming in that last 5 minutes, was so intense, by far my favourite part of the event.. other than getting tickled by tasteless

Its hard really to add anything else, it was just an amazing tournament. I loved every second I got watch on stream. Everyone involved should be proud.

Infeza I loved your obs work, it was some of the best I had seen, so thank you for that.

There are so many other people to thank as well, as I said in the other thread, it made me so proud to be a part of this community. The games were great to watch, the production value was amazing, Maynarde did a great job in getting the crowd involved, the crowd were loud all day.

I can't wait for the next LAN event!

Single best sporting (e-sports or otherwise) event of my life. Seeing the emotion from guys like tgun and PiG when he won WCS Aus was absolutely incredible and it was only made better by getting to meet Tastosis who were the main reason I got into watching SC2 in the first place!

I don't know if it was because I was there or whether the games were actually just that damn good, but this tournament produced easily the best games I've ever seen from an SEA tournament.

KOREAN BBQ TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW **** YEAH

Venom for sleeping on the floor and giving me a bed when we got to the accommodation at 2.30 am, all the beds were full and we didn't know which room our 3rd room was ♥

Everything everyone's already said... Maynarde's MCing, Infeza's obsing, the organisation from EVERYONE, Dot's cake, and all the fun people I got got to hang out with again and the ones I got to meet for the first time. Special mentions to people I got hugs from yang, PiG, Mayo, Tasteless, Zepph, Ninja, Maynarde... hmm was that all?

Oh and KnightLight for the bloody coolest game ever and for hanging out with us at Korean BBQ and generally being cool

Knight's twitter is tileslight (waiting for asra to correct me if I'm wrong). But he really doesn't post anywhere at all, facebook, twitter, TL or sc2sea. So What everyone has to do now is mass mass mass tweet the dude and get him all warm and fuzzy so he will hang around here more often and get some love.

I'm not sure if ACL has got someone who's going to go through the twitch vods and highlight all the games (I think it's a good idea...) - I've cut a highlight of the Moonglade vs Knight game (had to be 2 parts though because it was unfortunately in the middle of a split) - so if someone could approve that it'd be good; or perhaps cut your own I don't care - but it really should be done, if not at least for promotional sake!

Additionally it'd be heaps better if it wasn't 2 parts; so I'd suggest that someone at ACL cut the highlight, then the VOD can be ripped from twitch using jdownloader or something; then just splice it together in adobe/vegas/whatever so that it's all 1 vod, then get that uploaded and start linking it for great justice!

Until that time, if you want to see the game it's here http://www.twitch.tv/aclprosc2/b/328307580 at 1 hour 9 minutes into the vod.

Overall I really enjoyed the event (for the unfortunately short time I was there due to flight issues...) and I appreciate the effort everyone put in, you were all wonderful! I'm going to do some social media data analysis stuff when I can this week, and I'll have a better write up coming up in a blog soon.

Far too many people to thank but if you are going to thank anyone it has to be Vanz and JB. They both put in months and months of ridiculously hard work to make this event happened. Worked tirelessly to make sure players, casters, staff and spectators were looked after and did more to make this event happen then most will ever know. They above anyone else deserve your praise. These two guys will make sure Australian eSports is put on the map.

Send them both love on twitter! Especially JB who gets no where near the praise he deserves!

Everything every single aspect of WCS that I enjoyed. I don't think I can express how much I appreciated all the effort that went into these events.

But most of all was the passion. From the organisers, the casters, the community, everyone at the event, the stream viewers >< and especially the players.

It was such a monumental event it brought so many people together it was just awesome or in the great words of Light "I mean FANTASTIC".

BRING ON THE WORLDS, MAFIA AND MOONGLADE FIGHTING!!

I had the sickest time and can only repeat what everyone else has been saying, it was a great weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it. Mafia vs tgun game 3 to decide who went through was so crazy - I've never been so emotional about the game before, but the entire TA team was sitting there screaming our heads off; we could barely hear the casters over the crowd it was that electric. It's moments like that the define these events.

Would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks JB/Vanz/The entire crew, you know we love you.

Everyone has summed it up so well.

This tournament was simply ******* amazing. It was an amazing ride and I was treated so well. I'm sorry I wasn't able to show better games, but the games we did see were so good anyway. Also it was so cool to constantly see like PiG signing things, it's like we were actual celebs haha.

I was considering quitting SC2 after this, but now i'm fully convinced that SC2, or simply communities like this need to be part of my life.

Immensely, immensely impressed by the event. Not because of the production, nor the venue, nor the quality of the games. We knew that would be good... but the passion and energy in that room was beyond anything I had ever expected. PiG's WCS Australia win on Saturday... tgun's (third!) series win over Light on Sunday... Game 3 of tgun v Mafia... Cheering for tgun I'm still feeling so sad about how close he came when I think about it now.

Almost everyone has been mentioned already, but there is one more group that I'll throw out there (and to be honest, I would have never imagined I would be writing this): TA. The banner and the chanting during the player introductions on Saturday. The excitement of the guys around where I was sitting during game 3 of tgun v Mafia. The rushing on stage after Mafia's victory. My goodness... the amount of passion and support you guys give each other is amazing.

When Chadmann said in the "growing SEA scene" thread that what we can offer is a tight-knit community, I had been sceptical that that was something that could be conveyed to the world. Well, I am now thoroughly convinced and extremely glad that I was there to experience it.

Was a great event. Many thanks to all the people involved in organising and running it. Great job all of you. It was well worth the journey from Brisneyland. Met so many awesome people, saw some of the best games. Dat pig vs moonglade saga was epic. Can't wait to catch up with you all again at the next one. Also thanks to Intoccabile for organizing the backpackers. Cheers for the great weekend everyone.

The big names that made the event an amazing personal experience for are as follows:

Dot and PiG: Dot for organising the cake and for being super nice all the time, PiG for being a super star and yet being so open to talk to me and sign my poster.

Intoccabile: For stepping up and giving time to those able to attend by organising the accomodation and for being such a cool dude. (playing pool with him and his mates was sick too!)

Breadfan, Venom, Ozliam, Mirth, Justice, Baldie, Asrathiel, Flamga and all the random ppl at the venue: Thank you for sharing the weekend with me, for being friendly and having a laugh, screaming out lungs out for our champions and for random discussions about sc2.

ACLPRO and Blizzard: For working together to bring Australia and me the biggest and best Starcraft 2 experience to date.

Artosis, Tasteless, HD and Painuser, Maynarde and Legionnaire: For giving the best of the best casting experience for all the people watching. Also for being so approachable and giving your fans the time of day to say Hello.

And the biggest thank you to the players my new idols, for providing over the weekend the most amazing games I have had the chance to experience. For showing the world that SEA will not be put into the dark forgotten corner. That we have players and undiscovered new blood that without a shadow of a doubt can rise up and compete on the global stage.

The weekend has destroyed my voice but it was worth every second and I can not wait for the next big thing in Australia.

Was a great weekend, never had so many bro hugs in my life.

Thanks to - Dox, Blizzard (especially PJ), Vanzr, JB and the rest of the Stream team (Blair, Doble, Beware, Infeza, Luke, Doofus, UHF, Simon, Troy, Karen and John Snr and I'm sure some I forgot).

All of the volunteers that helped out with special mentions to Inmaniac (who coordinated them), Brett, Champi, Chadmann and all the TA crew that stayed to help pack up on Sunday night (Kez, Cosmic, Lost, Qibla, massive apologies to those whose names I forgot, I had many many bourbons that night).

Edit: And Dot! That cake, amazing in all facets, taste, looks, execution.

Was a fantastic weekend, something that I'm proud very proud to say I was a part of.

I have to say watching tgun vs light with legionnaire+artosis casting was probably the best sc2 experience I have had to date. Legionnaire was amazing analytically, I only wish I could have met him!

Infeza's observing as many have said was nothing short of perfect, picking up many things the casters did not! And the finals... Omg I actually fist pumped when tgun won that first game vs mafia lol

From my eyes the SEA staff and players truly made this event, while it was fantastic having tastosis/painuser/HD I honestly felt that the organization from ACL, Dox etc and with some very hard fought games (final game mafia vs tgun ^^) that the event really promoted what SEA and the community has to offer!

Definitely going to save up for and hopefully make the next one, I feel like a complete moron for missing out T_T

Easily the best event yet of sc2 in Australia! really great stuff!

Such a shame it didn't pull more attention in TL.net like in their newsfeed or whatnot.

Working today in a position where I talk to people all day was the most painful experience of my life.

At least it was worth it.

Thanks WCS.

I just want to show my love and appreciation for EVERYONE involved this weekend. Most notably, the 3 people who actually made it happen:

Nick Vanzetti - Vanz, as most people would know, is the CEO of ACL. He puts his heart, mind, soul and especially wallet on the line for these events. People do not realise the strain he is under to make this happen. Just like you, he has a life, a girlfriend, and a RL job to work around, and somehow still manages to pull events off. Crazy, considering how amazing these events actually are. Show some love: www.twitter.com/ACLVaNzR

JB Hewitt: JB (Blade) is the Supreme Commander of gaming website LANSMASH and is the other half of ACL. JB is the Ying to Vanzr's Yang and is the most under-appreciated member of the crew. He is a wizard, a gentleman and a scholar. If it wasn't for him, ACL could not function and the Blizzard WCS would never have happened. Please show this guy your appreciation: www.twitter.com/jbhewitt

PJ: PJ is the Community and Esports Manager of Blizzard Australia & New Zealand. He is a BAWSS. He's also a freaking amazing guy. Vanz, JB and ACL may have physically put this event together, but there wouldn't even be an event without this man. Make sure you let him know how you feel about the WCS, and that we want another event soon!!!!! www.twitter.com/Blizzard_ANZ

I also want to show my love and support for every single volunteer for this event. The amount of people who would do what we do are few and far between. It's a lot of work, but we do it for the community. Stream Team are amazing!

Also, to the players. I was lucky enough to be the Player Liaison for this event, and I'm honoured that I got to hang out with you all as much as I did. There were some hiccups, but I think we all got there in the end. Thank you very much for making the event what it was, you guys are legends, and I hope now that this event is over, people continue to give you the respect and admiration you deserve.

One more thing. You all would already have done it, but make sure you give the casters some love. I also acted as the Talent Liaison and can say with 100% honesty that they aren't here just to put on a show - they are truly great guys who love Australia. I loved hanging with them and hope they come back soon.

Personally, this event has helped me to bridge the gap between my console-gaming background and my current work in PC gaming. This whole site and the scene are amazing. I can't wait to get more involved with everything that's happening, and I look forward to the amazing future of Australian eSports.

An absolutely amazing event to say the least.

It was great seeing everyone again and catching up over the weekend and meeting the casters is something I'll never forget.

Highlight though was finding out about Seoul-ria. Never had Korean BBQ before then and it's safe to say I'm in love...

Sitting in my bed in Hong Kong I was so hyped the entire event. There were some huge upsets and I would like to congratulate all the players that managed to pull off great wins but also I hope the players that did not do as well as they hoped to don't lose their will to keep on doing better and especially tgun who was 1 game away from qualifying.

The staff did such a great job with the event, I feel like Maynarde didn't get enough love but also the Mods who managed to turn a 6k stream of NA bmers into fans Thanks for delivering such a quality event (or 2!)

Many thanks to all of those hard workers who spent hours backstage working to make this event what it was - the best event ever held in Aus.

And to do it for so little thanks is truly amazing. We should have been getting you guys huge cakes instead of tasteless!

I've watched some of the games since coming back to brisbane, and i've got to say the obs'ing was even better than i initially thought. (and i thought it was good)

I'd also like to thank Blizzard. Without them, none of this is possible.

Players... meh. Should respect your elders more, and allow them to win

Wow, what an amazing weekend.

Look at what we did!

Click the image to open in full size.

I am so incredibly proud of what we've all achieved, the last week seems completely surreal and despite my sleep deprivation I'd like to just write a bit here for the world to read.

This all started many many months ago, as a pie in the sky idea that ACL and Jetstream could possibly be the host to Blizzard's World Championship Series of Australia & Oceania.

Conversation ranged from venues to players, from booths to audio, from casters to players, from cameras to communications, all of us thinking 'wouldn't it be great if...'

"Wouldn't it be great if we could host the WCS for our region?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could compete with IGN, ESL and GSL in terms of production?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could stream it in HD?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could build SC2 themed booths for our players?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could fly some of the best casters to AU?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could promote Australian culture and SC2 esports scene?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could attract thousands of people to watch?"
"Wouldn't it be great if we could treat the players like rockstars?"

Being a perfectionist, it's difficult for me to accept anything but the best - in this case however, we exceeded my expectations. We shot for the stars, and went beyond.

In the first few months, we talked about everything from the big picture to the tiny details. Each team member seemed to have a different passion, we all seemed to find our niche to work on, and I think this is what was so key to us pulling off such an awesome event.

In no particular order, I'd like to shine a light on some of the people who have worked so hard to take this from vision to reality, and thank them for making this event happen.

Troy & his brother

I don't know Troy's brother's name, but from what I know he did the majority of the fabrication on the booths, so massive respect for his contribution to our event!

Troy:
Click the image to open in full size.

Troy and his brother were charged with constructing our booths and the presenter's desk. Over many months they went from an idea, to a plan, to fabrication, to construction, then transport and installation at the venue.

Click the image to open in full size.

The booths were a vision which we thought would be almost impossible, but through hard work, dedication and hundreds of manhours, the finished product was something to behold.

They were completely custom built, and (we think) could withstand a hurricane. They took a team of five workers TWO DAYS to assemble after transport, and once completed looked absolutely amazing. Thank you so much Troy & brother for your work on the booths & casters desk.

Simon / Webberist

Click the image to open in full size.

Simon started down the path of lighting and effects and never looked back. Officially, Simon is our photographer, and a skilled one at that, but in the space of a few months, he researched and mastered controllable lighting for our stage and booths.

Simon was responsible not only for the lighting in the booths, and the cool LED-strip lighting around them, but also for the construction of the booths, and transport from Brisbane to Sydney in the back of a van, and back again.

Simon's efforts resulted not only in an amazing looking stage, but the safe and timely delivery and return of all our equipment from Brisbane to Sydney and back again. On Sunday night when the stream team was totally dead from the weekend's efforts, Simon arrived fresh and ready to rock, and got us through the pack-up and shipping back to Brisbane. Thanks dude.

Damien / Camera Team

Click the image to open in full size.

Damo was the fearless leader of the camera team. 'Fearless' refers to him having to put up with 36 hours of Doble screaming in his ear over the wireless. Damo did an awesome job, not only in organising the camera team and keeping everyone in sync, but also filling any gaps where appropriate - any time Nick, JB or myself needed something, Damo was there to fill the void.

The camera team also did an excellent job, you guys showcased your professionalism during the many chaotic sequences during which you were expected to feed us good video despite little instruction or planning. I'd like to extend an official 'job well done' to everyone in the camera team, as without you, our efforts would have been for nought. I appreciate your patience, tenacity and passion for the event. Thank you.

Luke / Sensator

Click the image to open in full size.

Our graphics and video controller, Luke has been working with Jetstream for the last few events but at WCS Sydney he really showed his abilities. Luke took full control of our video mixing system and did an awesome job throughout the event. When he wasn't working on the live mixing, he was preparing graphics such as overlays, score updates, and 'coming soon' information for our stream. Luke gave it his all and I was very proud to see him achieve his potential while contributing hugely to our event. Great job dude, keep it up.

Blair / Scythah

Click the image to open in full size.

Besides having an amazing beard, Blair was our primary video controller, a veteran of many ACL and Lansmash events, Blair is accustomed to the task of taking on a variety of video sources, working with audio such as microphones and music, and producing a slick, professional and awesome-looking final product.

A keen fan of Starcraft 2, Blair has an established understanding of the timing and rhythm of a SC2 game, and as such is able to provide live video editing which flows with the game, without interrupting the battle or frustrating the audience.

Blair always remains cool under pressure, and is always focused, alert and keen to perform at his best - it is he who ultimately produces what the stream sees, and he does a mighty fine job of it. Thanks so much Blair.

Josh / Inmaniac

Click the image to open in full size.

There's a saying at ACL - if you want something done, give it to Josh.
In the case of WCS Sydney, Josh was running in overdrive! Everything from organizing players, to looking after our celebrity casters, to editing audio files, to purchasing last-minute equipment, cables and accessories, to feeding the team, and everything in-between, Josh was there to carry the weight of a tired, overworked and frustrated ACL team. Without flinching he threw himself at whatever challenge we asked of him and delivered results every time. Thanks so much Josh, you did a great job.

Derek / Dox

Click the image to open in full size.

Not much hasn't been said about the SC2SEA community superman - Dox ran a tight ship for our tournament, and was a big help in organizing players and keeping us on schedule. As always, thanks for your tireless contribution to eSports in Australia Dox. He's a ******* dragon people!

Infeza / Phil

Click the image to open in full size.

Infeza's spectating brought our event to the next level. His work made the international casters feel at home, the specetators understood the game, and he never missed a beat in over 3 days of spectating world-class games. Infeza almost never took a break, peferring to stay with the Stream Team for the entirety of the event. Putting up with my shouting and hollering, Infeza was always calm and communicative during game creation, and let us know immediately of any problems - allowing us to radio the 'tech squad' and have any IT issues resolved for the players.

Infeza's spectating has been recognized as world-class not only by our international casters, but also by the community, and we are very fortunate to have him working as part of WCS. Thank you so much Phil - you did a great job!

Maynarde

Click the image to open in full size.

Maynarde, who could have asked for a better MC? Witty, charismatic, cool and oh-so-passionate, Maynarde guided WCS Sydney through some of it's roughest patches. Hype the crowd? No problem! Wanna make an announcement? Maynarde can do it! Giveaways? How about an impromptu ******* DANCE COMPETITION?!!? yeah, thats right.

Featuring such famous quotes as "One for you, and you, and you, and you!" and .. "What do you think about that crowd?! ... WHAT ABOUT YOU, STREAM?!?!" -- Maynarde lended a perfect dose of Australian spirit to our production, and stayed with it till the end. I still remember seeing him with dark, dark rings under his eyes on Saturday at around 10:00pm while being asked to 'get hype' for the next game. Sure enough, you wouldn't know once he got on stage. Maynarde is a true showman and deserves every bit of accolade this community awards him.

Nick Vanzetti

Click the image to open in full size.

If there is one thing that you could say about Nick, it's that he will do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. In this case, he took on the enormous challenge of hosting the Blizzard WCS in Australia. Not only were the expectations of the SC2SEA community riding hard, but the pressure for ACLpro to perform was enormous. Nick has worked tirelessly for many months, fighting to win the contract from Blizzard to host the event, and then to prove that he and ACL are worthy of the contract. As of WCS Sydney I think there is no doubt in anyone's minds that ACL can deliver on their promises. Well done Nick!

Shoutcasters

Click the image to open in full size.

Thank you to our international casters - HDstarcraft, Painuser, Tasteless and Artosis for being so enthusiastic and passionate about our SC2 scene. You guys were great to hang out with, and I was so pleased to see that you were genuinely interested in Australian culture as well as aussie SC2 players - we thoroughly enjoyed your casting and can't wait to invite you back to Australia for our next event!

JB / Blade

Click the image to open in full size.

Jetstream's Supreme Commander, master of Lansmash, all-round nice guy, dishes washed, grass mowed, gutters cleaned. JB is the glue that keeps the Stream-Team together. A supporter of Nick and ACLpro, JB works behind the scenes to ensure that every event is a success, bringing his extensive IT, system administration and problem solving abilities to bear. If there's a problem tough enough, chances are it will find it's way to JB.

As well as driving from Brisbane to Sydney and back to move equipment - during the event, JB handled everything from streaming issues, to audio problems, to player PC issues, to camera problems, to management issues ... and so on.

JB is the Optimus Prime of Jetstream and we are very proud of our achievements under his command - if you ever see him in public, give a cheer and thank him for his efforts - as you never know when your event or tournament may benefit from his work.

Last but not least -

The players & Audience

Click the image to open in full size.

Without you, all of our efforts would have been pointless. Having a packed venue with a roaring crowd, passionate players fighting for supremacy and stories forged throughout the weekend, THAT is what eSports is all about! I'm so proud of this community to make the effort to support and promote this tournament - keep it up and put Australia on the map in the eSports scene!

One last note from me -

Thank you to everyone whom I met during the weekend
Thank you Dox for running the tournament and managing players
Thank you Chaddman and Champi for managing players pre and post-game.
Thank you to the camera team for doing such a great job and capturing so many great moments
Thank you Simon for working so hard pre-event, producing some amazing lighting for our stage, and your awesome photography as always,
Thank you to Blair and Luke for your excellent video and graphics work
Thank you to Josh for being the facilitator for the stream team and ACL.
Thank you to Nick for putting up with my perfectionist attitude, and pulling everything together
Thank you to JB for taking the load off the stream team and letting us focus on the job at hand.
Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes who I may not have mentioned here - you guys are what keeps events like this together, and everyone - organisers, players and spectators included appreciate your efforts to deliver this amazing event. Well done.

I am massively proud to say that I was the director of this amazing, improbable, heartwarming, incredible, exhilarating event, and I can't wait for the next one.

See you all on the flip side!
