How long / what days are you looking at? I was planning on staying thursday-monday (arrive thurs after lunch, leave mon morning).

Want to point out that the venue is right next to the station, and 1 station away is Central (the main hub in Sydney) so if you cannot find a place near Redfern, look at Central. I know there are a TON of backpackers in the city and there are trains to Redfern every couple of minutes.

How would people feel about renting a house for the weekend? I have found a few good places really close. Depending on the amount of people it could be as cheap as 40 bux a night.

I think the bottom line here is the cost of accommodation is going to be exceptionally cheap compared to individual accommodation.. not to mention sharing an experience with other people outside of the specific event is also pretty baller.

In regards to a house having done them in the past as long as you pick an appropriate place it can be pretty sick but they can be costly if not enough people jump on board.

Basically I just want somewhere close to sleep, we will be at the event basically all day so no real need for luxurious accessories I feel.

Completely agree Baldie! I am looking at a house in paddington atm. It says it will accom 14 ppl and depending on the amount it will be about 40-50$ per person. I think this could be a good choice. But i would need guaranteed numbers and a bit of trust....as there would be a security deposit.

Gods above, I would love to get in on this. Might be flying up from Melb solo, and would be glad to chip in with fellow sc2seaers. Trouble is I'm still 50/50 on going at this point arghhhhh, will try to keep following thread.

Well just having a better look around there are a few backpacker/dorm type places around Surry Hills. The Bounce for example does a 8 bed dorm for like 40$ per person per night. A little simpler than the house but also a bit closer. Also it seems that the amount of people who want in is increasing pretty fast so 8 beds may not be enough unless we get multiple rooms.

The 40-50 is per night for the house. So for 10 people for 2 nights it is $870 all up.

Take the rule of thumb for events into this.

Of the 100% of people who express interest in this and/or say they will go in approx 70% - 80% will actually follow through (unless there is a deposit required which locks people in).

Does seem the interest is increasing but shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves in regards to numbers.

Either way love you work all who are looking into places!

Just rang Alfred Park, chick was really nice! At the moment they have:

6 bed + ensuite, 4 bed + ensuite, ~$31 per person per night

They have WiFi in rooms, TVs, Air-con. They also have cancellations up to 48 hours before the booking (unlike some others i saw that don't allow cancellations)

You can also get them without an ensuite which is $27 per person per night, but you'd use the communal bathrooms and stuff

So if there were 10 of us, we could all fit in 2 rooms together. if we had any more we would either need to get an additional smaller room i guess, or those people would room with randoms

It would be pretty cool if we were to stay near players and staff as partying on the Sunday night would likely be a lot easier but equally just as happy to utilise the places we have already searched for given it wouldn't be hard to travel down to the station near the venue and travel up to central if needed.

I think there is enough interest for a house. Just need to make sure there are enough mattresses etc. I would bring my swag but I'm flying carry only

(Also with house there is another level of "dont be a dick" because the fine potential for breaking or damaging anything is higher)

Interestingly I have found a 28 bed dorm room right in the city for like $26 a bed!

My only problem with getting the house or any of the places at Surry Hill area now is that I would like to party/go out/hang out with as many people as possible. And I can see this hindering the chance to do that as we will have to catch a train into the city to where most ppl are...then train back to Surry then possibly taxi back to accom......at 3 in the morning when Im drunk....that sounds like a serious mission!

I have also found another pretty nice looking place in the City with a 10 bed dorm for like $34 per person per night.

Let me know peoples thoughts I will update the OP with the new places once I get a chance!

I agree central to the majority of others is ideal (no pun intended) and I would be willing to pay slightly extra for each night given it will be offset the cost of the extra distance in a taxi anyway

A lot of surry hills is pretty much right next to central station, so basically right in the middle of the city. Just so ya know. Redfern is one stop away 5minutes on the train, or a very cheap cab ride away.

Probably best not to rely on taxis in the city. They still have a habit of picking and choosing only fares that are worth their time. That's assuming you can flag one down in the first place.

Yea that sounds ok to me if everyone else wants it and enough room for everyone. It's closer to the city for those that want it, and about 1km (9minute walk) from where Team Nv (not sure who) are staying. It's also across the road from the train station for those that need that.

It will be easier to manage than a house (no big bond), and it's easier to organised people arriving and leaving at different days.

It's ~30 minute walk to the venue (1.6km)

The venue is almost as central and accessible as you can possibly get when it comes to public transport! Nonetheless, if you're really keen on parking, I'd recommend checking out the ATP website for information.

Hi Guys, me and my partner are looking to come in Friday and out Monday or Sunday night depending. Interested in the share, but either way is good. Would definitely be good to be around other people who love SC2.

I cant believe this, i feel like i woke up this morning and when i sat down at my computer gods dick came out of the screen and spat a litre of hot jizz straight into my eyes and mouth. Heavenly.

Original post i was under the assumption the house was still a possibility, please confirm Me+1 for Fri/Sat/Sun at the backpackers.

From a quick look it seems as if flights will be around 240 return for me and my partner. This seems reasonable although if anybody has found an awesome deal elsewhere id be interested.

toasti0 if you look at the original post it has information on it regarding our options. We are in the final stages or organising a dorm-esque like room where it will be ~$30 a night due to the amount of people staying. The sites we are looking at are all within close distance to the venue.

If you are interested in staying with us just put in your day flying in and day flying out and what nights you would be requesting hospitality and the OP can put you in the list!

So I have just gotten in contact with a place called Central Perk (http://www.cpbackpackers.com.au/) that is up the road a bit from WakeUp and it seems like they have room. He is going to try and organise it so that rooms can all be as close to eachother as possible.

He should be emailing me today and I will update once I get the quote/details etc.

It's exactly 2 weeks away and I'm getting a bit anxious. I want to lock in some accommodation before it gets to a point where there are no share rooms left.

I rang and emailed Alfred Park again and they had approx. 7 x 4person rooms:

"As I mentioned on the phone, we unfortunately don't have any ensuite rooms available on those dates. We do however have a handful of 4 Bed Basic Dorms on offer.

The rate for a 4 Bed Basic Dorm is $27.00 per person per night.

All our dorm beds are bunk beds. Each room has it's own mini fridge, TV and air-conditioning. Bathrooms will be communal bathrooms.

We will only charge your credit card with the rate of the first night, the balance you will pay on arrival"

• Closest accommodation to the venue (10-15 minute walk)
• Dirt cheap: $27 x 3 = $81 if you're staying 3 nights
• Mostly positive reviews but you get what you pay for
• Communal bathroom (shared, but still has privacy AFAIK)
• Central station (train/bus) is 10 minutes walk away
• WiFi - get a a good amount for free then it's $3 for more.
• Unfortunately the location isn't right in the city if thats a problem for anyone

So under 18 is allowed as long as accompanied!

We can book it so that we are in 2 - 10 Bed Dorms and 1 - 4 bed dorm at Central Perk on the same floor on the 10/11/12. However they have put a bit of a caveat on the way we want to book. We can have the 3 rooms on the same floor for the 3 nights at the same price every night. Meaning we would have to pay the price for the 3 rooms on Friday night even though there is only 15 people in those rooms.

Each night would be $550. I'm not sure how you guys would like to handle it but we can either total the 3 nights and divide by 24 (the total amount of people). Or we can divide the $550 per night for the amount of people.

Total if fully divided is $68.75 per person. I can completely understand how this would be unfair though. (note: I am happy to do this even though I'm not staying on Friday night.)

Otherwise
Friday: $36.6 per person
Saturday: $22.91 per person
Sunday: $26.19 per person

Total for a person staying all 3 nights: $85.7
Only staying Friday and Saturday: $59.51
Only staying Saturday and Sunday: $49.1

As stated above I am quite happy to go either way if the people on friday are happy to pay a little extra.

Please let me know ASAP!!! which way most people would prefer to go as I would like to book this in today!

If we are going to split the cost so that each person pays for the nights they stay then I think that the easiest way is for people to pay their total amount as they come in that way we don't have to worry about transferring money between us through paypal or what ever.

What happens if they end up short? Who has to pay the difference? It's easy to get messed up if one person were to bail, or someone made a mistake in calculating their share. Potentially we could give reception a list and ask them to sign peoples' names off as they pay? The last thing I want to see is you getting grief from the place/being out of pocket after going through all the work to organise this for everyone. Also, the less effort expended in chasing people up, the better. That's why I think a list and check off is a good solution.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know that there are 10 free beds on the Friday, 1 on the Saturday and 3 on the Sunday. This leaves us at 14 for friday (down from 15), 23 on Saturday (down from 24) and the original 21 on Sunday.

If we cannot at least get back to the original amounts specified when booking then we can either force people to pay (I understand SmotPokingFish has already offered but I would prefer to make sure that people are only paying if they get to be there!) or we cover their costs. It would change the amounts by a few dollars each.

Please let me know your thoughts and if you have anyone who can fill a spot GET THEM IN!!! the more people we have in a room each night the cheaper it will be for everyone!!


P.S. Asrath, I will be calling them today as I have a few other questions to ask them. I update this thread afterwards.

EDIT: Tek Kez has taken the friday, saturday and 1 of the Sunday spots! so we are back to the original amount of people for Friday and Saturday and we have 1 extra person for Sunday! YAY that will make it cheaper!

Sadly I there is nothing that can be done, the reason is she doesn't want me having any more time off school as I have already missed a large amount this term due to illness.

Finished work, SO EXCITED.

So after being at WCS (hehe) I'm at Centrel Perk right now using their free WiFi : D I'm staying in one of our rooms (with 2 randoms). He gave us a 10 bed and 14 bed room on the 3rd floor, and he has a list with our names and what we owe - it's pay as you arrive (then he will work it out with Intocc later).

Things to note:

- 611 George St. is the right address, but it's actually around the corner in Goulburn St. one shop down.
- Pretty much everything nearby (duh it's the city).
- I can see 2 or 3 Korean BBQ the room window
- Bring a towel, soap & all the regular toiletries.
- We are right on the main drag, it's not overly noisy, but it's not quiet either
- The guy on reception is pretty relaxed. Got me hooked up with free WiFi, we get free breaky (just the basics).

I'm heading down to WCS again tomorrow, so i don't know when i'll see you guys! Hope you let me know if you head out!

The korean place opposite seoul-ria is good too though it's a fair bit smaller so it probably couldn't hold all of our sweaty bodies in there. But it's open at like 4am in the morning so if you're out drinking and want some korean to eat, it's there for you.

I would like to Thank Intoccabile for Setting this up for so many Of us . Without him this whole experiance Would have been much more difficult for many people. Trying to organise accomadation for so many people Is a hard thing to do and Again would like to thank him for this.

A big thanks from me and my partner Jen to Intoc for getting this going and for anybody else who lent a hand, It made it really simple for us to sort things out especially considering we weren't sure of tickets till near last minute. It was awesome, we got to meet so many people and put faces to names - previously ive been much more a lurker than a consistent poster here but this seems to have changed things alot. Jen and I (Matt) are getting forward to knowing you all better. I also just wanted to extend a thanks from both of us to everybody for being so friendly, you are all such awesome people.

PS. I regret that we were both too tired after both nights events to go out to Korean BBQ/Socialise/Drink/Drink, hopefully we'll have a chance to get to sit down over a meal with all of you sometime soon.
