Thanks to our awesome donators for the month of March - skybreaker, Disadvantage and learner123 - we will be able to run a really cool tournament.
And as an event needs to be $100 to be listed on TL to get 10x the viewers, the prize pool will be this amount so we will give a lot more exposure for our sea community. Ty benji for the suggestion.
Im currently thinking of running a slighty different format for this tournament, but this is a familar format we have used for the COTH and something we have never used in our tournament brackets before, with a nice prize pool. It will be a "KOF/Winners style" format with teams of 3!
The KOF Format
For those who dont know how it works, basically u get 3 of ur fav players/practise buddies and make a team together with a cool name like perhaps "benji win trades". You choose a default starter for all rounds and all matches are 1v1, bo1. The starters play each other and the winner stays continues to play a member of the opponents team of their choosing not yet defeated, until there are no players left.
It makes for some tense moments , clutch play with all kills and reverse all kills, etc. Theres also a tactical element where the team of the losing player can choose a player who is strong against the current winner, ie sniping based on race or map. So since there are 3 players in each time it basically it turns every round into a bo5, as a team needs to elminate the other team (3 wins) to move foward.
Back in the beta, our "Team AU" team comprising of filthy, me and moonglade even knocked out teams like EG, and Fnatic. We got all killed by idra tho haha!
Poll
Anyway to provide the best expereince, I do need some feedback for this -
Should the tournament be selected applicants or open sign ups?
Selected applicants meaning from the list of sign ups we pick the absolute best 8 teams. This means that the tourney has lots of strong/close matches with the best of SEA so its good for SEA or NA viewers who happen to tune in, and it can also finish all in one day. The bad point would be not everyone can enter the tournament.
So just send in your votes, and also, you can start signing up your teams by posting here in the following format.
Team Name:
PlayerA
PlayerB
PlayerC
It will tentatively be in 1-2 weeks time and on a weekend.
We should nominate captains from a bunch of high level players and they take turns drafting lower level players who want to participate into their team so it's even. It would be boring if there was one team of like mOOnGLaDe, Revenant and RedArchon they would never lose. Players couldn't complain about having a noob team cos they get to choose them too n_n

Theres enough good players to make 8x3 teams tho.
Unless youre referring to the Open one, and you'll end with teams of a High level Master with a Diamond and a Gold player, the matchups would come down to which Master won.

Surely that's better than a team of all masters beating on a bunch of diamond and gold teams.
Also prize is quite low for a team of 3, less that normal community opens etc.

If theres only 8 teams (which makes sense) I imagine 8 teams of 3 Masters wouldn't be too hard to get. It'd make an epic finals when you've got deth/pinder/edge vs aaron/rev/oxygen or something.
Most pple voted for open tourney but theres only 4 teams so far. cmon guys if u want to have open toruney we must have at least 16 teams otherwise it makes sense just to have 8 so start signing up!
This is really awesome, great work on the tournament idea! In terms of voting; I opted for the invitational lay-out; in my opinion I think this would be best for the tournament (in the sense of increasing SEA/ANZ awareness and having a lot of players tune in to watch). Also, I must admit; I would love to relax and watch the best-of-the-best duke it out in the KoF tournament layout!
Look forward to tuning into this event when it goes live!
what date and time will it most likly be? crux will enter a team but depending on date determines the team the prelim players are cruxStallion cruxDali cruxTempest cruxMyth cruxPeon
Yeap i know its really impromptu but with the high demand and lack of my free time next week i've decided that the KOF#1 will start today. As its our first day, it will also be kinda a trial run so we will only have a max of 8 teams today so sign up quick! However we will follow the same format as the COs and the winning team will qualify into the semis/ro8 of the final tourney at the end of the month with a >$100 prizepool.
Date/Time:
Friday(today!) 29th of April, 2011 - 6pm SGT, 8pm Sydney Battle.net Chat-Channel:
"sc2seaKOF".
KOF stands for King of Fighters, a popular arcade game where you select 3 characters in a team. In this format, if your character defeats the other teams character, your same character will continue fighting until the other team is defeated or your character losses.
Basically we have carried this format into Starcraft 2. So you make an awesome team of 3 with your favourite players/practise buddies. You choose a default starter for all rounds and all matches are 1v1, bo1. The starters play each other and the winner stays and continues to play a member of the opponents team of their choosing not yet defeated, until there are no players left. Very similar to the GTSL.

So since there are 3 players in each time it basically it turns every round into a bo5, as a team needs to elminate the other team (3 wins) to move foward.
