Smiley: Angry PvZ help. gold player

Hey guys, imma gold level Protoss and lately ive been put up against platinum level players. I havn't won a PvZ in god knows how long and I dont know why... I 4 gate, I get crushed. I 3 gate robo, I get crushed. I 3 gate stargate. i get crushed. their extremly quick reinforcing is really becoming the death of me. I kill his whole army and then straight away I get hit with another army. I play some aggressive games and early pushes kill me. I play long, macro games and a 300/200 push kills me. I just dont know what to do -___- and i'm starting to think zerg is OP after the roach buff... any high rated protosses please help me :/

I can pretty much assure you your problems with Zerg have nothing to do with roaches; or the increased roach range. It's most likely got to do with your macro slipping as well as allowing your Zerg opponents to freely drone.

I had a similar problem with my PvZ match-ups a while ago; and asked nGenLight in his thread over on the battle.net forum and he recommended reading this thread from TL. Check it out; it should be invaluable to you. GL & HF =)

yea i feel protoss actually has an edge vs zerg atm, you probably have to work that macro mechanic

thats lots of stuff protoss can do but the 2 most powerful and basic ones revolve around FFs

1) ground army with collosus stalkers and GOOD ffs
2) mixed ground/air army with stalkers/voids/collosus and GOOD ffs

both are extremely hard to beat for zerg when you're both 200 food and the zerg virtually has no chance with GOOD ffs. even if they have a 300/200 army they just lose because your ball is so strong and you lost almost nothing

What nirvana said, Protoss deathball of collosus/VRs/stalkers with good forcefields rape every single thing zerg throws at you. That's what prompted me to change race from zerg to toss...

Lawl kpb, go start understanding the matchups. I started thinking about how everything works when i hit rank 1 gold and stopped playing so gimmicky, using common builds blindly, etc. Beat a rank 21 diamond and 45 plat today, still gold 1 :{ close close.

As a Zerg, the Deathball really hurts.
Even on 2 base, the Deathball is pretty significant to deal lots of damage already.

Good strats are always to take put an early pylon in the zerg's natural. This delays the expansion and makes your 4 warp gate rush more powerful.

Also you can go into a canon wall-in forge fast expansion.
Just put double pylons below the zerg's ramp and a few canons behind. That is soooo ANNOYING for zerg :P

If you can put pylones there, just place 2 canons behind the mineral line, that will still harm the natural expansion plus canons are quite powerful even against roaches.

another tip is to always harrass your zerg opponent. You can go to my Harass thread for more ideas on how to harass zergies

Blizzard patched that. You now need three pylons to block it off.

KPB and other fellow P players.

I simply suggest Googling sc2replays and go to sc2-replays website.

Download the most recent PVZ replays that LiquidHuk and KiwiKaki have been playing.

Both players have very different playstyles but essentially they can show you a variety of build orders vs. z.

"I 4 gate, I get crushed. I 3 gate robo, I get crushed. I 3 gate stargate. i get crushed. "

First of all 4-gate is really ineffective if it's timing is off or if it's executed poorly.

To 4-gate against Z and not lose you need to:

1. Only four gate when the z is doing a fast expand on 14 supply or on a speedling expand opening. You can tell speed ling openings if there's an early vespene extractor.

2. Place two proxy pylons at the natural expansion - one towards the middle of the map and the second behind the mineral line

3. Produce 1-3 zealots and attack before warp gate has finished researching so you can warp in four stalkers on your first warp cycle and not be overly threatened by lings. On your second cycle warp in the appropriate counter units - zealots if he's going lings / stalkers if he's going roach

4. Micro:- Avoid spine crawlers when engaging, aim to snipe the queen to reduce lava production, ensure your stalkers do not get surrounded, try and have one zealot in the mineral line taking out drones while you fight the main engagement, keep using different warp in combos like z,z,s,s / z,z,z,s / s,s,s,z / s,s,s,s

5. Macro:- while engaging make sure you don't get supply capped - stay on top of your pylon and probe production. While pressuring aim to get an expansion up so if your attack fails (which it shouldn't) you'll have an eco advantage.

Other builds:
Strong vs. Speed ling opening / early expos Weak vs. 7roach

1GATE CHRONO RUSH
9 pylon
11 gate (don't chrono probes until you've put gate down then only use two chronos on nexus)
14 pylon
16 zealot + chrono
19 zealot + chrono
20 Cyber
21 Stalker + chrono
21 Warp Gate Research
22/23 Gate
24 Stalker

Then make more stalkers and zealots with your two gates and transfer into 4-warpgate with a proxy to take the game.

2 GATE RUSH
Pretty easy - make two gates on 11 and 13 and then chrono out Zealots that are rallied straight to their natural - like the above strat transfer into stalker and then into 4gate

FAST EXPO
9 pylon
Then chrono out 18 probes
18 nexus
18 pylon
18 Gateway x 2
18 Forge
18 pylon
19 Zealot x 2 + chrono on both
24 Cannon

Use the above buildings to wall off your expo leaving only one entry/exit space that your zealots can hold position in to block off lings. The cannon then provides cover vs roach

From here transition into 4gate+2robo / 6gate+Citadel+upgrades / 8 gate / 4gate+2starport

The above is my favourite build

Hope this helps

an aggressive macro playstyle is what excells vs zerg. What i mean by that is you need to be constantly harassing while macroing, and expanding. Voidray expand and fast stalker pressure into expand are good examples.

Get BRabbit's replay pack - tons of great games in there to learn from. Seeing what you should be doing is super, actually doing it... well that is another story.
