Day9 does a daily on PvT with Jinro where he uses Phoenix to lift the tanks.
Also, correct me if I am wrong but don't colossus with the range upgrade outrange tanks?
Phx play in marines/tanks required you to have great micro control. I wonder will VR be great against such built if you could flank him to hit tanks when engaging.

don't do any phoenix...its a waste. 1 immortal can easily take on 2 seige tanks. add a couple senties with some zealots. use the guardian shield. add some DT's if the Terran is scan happy and a heavy mule user.
I had the same problem with tank rine timing pushes but now find them easy to beat with the following:
1. Zealots + Charge
2. Sentries + FF
3. Coli + Range
4. Obsevers
5. 1 or 2 Immortals (optional)
The key is to engage the Terran when they are mobilizing. Catch them when the tanks aren't sieged. Use force fields to capture the marines use the zealots to slice them up and make the tanks splash their own units.
Use the Coli and Immortals to mop up the tanks as most, if not all your sentries and zealots will die.
A good build to beat this strat is:
9 - Pylon
11 - Chrono
12 - Gateway
12 - Scout > If you see 1 rax + gas expect Tech and continue with this build. If you see any deviation like 2 rax stop and change this build to 3gate expansion.
14 - Gas
16 - Pylon
16 - Zealot + Chrono (Rally to Terran to pressure)
18 - Zealot + Chrono (Rally to Terran to pressure)
18 - Gas
21 - Stalker + Chrono (Rally to Terran to pressure)
23 - Pylon
25 - Robotics Facility
You can use this opener to apply early pressure to the T and if they've not blocked you can do significant eco damage by ignoring the rines and killing the MULE and scvs with your Zealots/Stalker.
Once you've got your 1gate robo up get out an observer and research warp gates. Use the obs for intel as to what the Terran is doing. If you see banshee build make another obs, another gateway and some stalkers to shut down the harass. If you see 2rax Factory then expect rine+tank and tech up to 2gate robo + robo bay.
Constantly applying pressure to the Terran player so he turtles is essential. Use this harassment to secure an early expo so you can then get 4gate + 2robo. This completely shuts down any 1base tank+rine timing attacks.
One thing I forgot to mention is to use your first observer to keep an eye on the Terran army. If he has gone Tank + Rine make sure you can see when he's moving out and then pick a place on the map that will give you a strategic advantage when you engage.
I personally like to have my units wait on high ground or behind smoke/trees. When the Terran get's close enough engage quickly using FF's to trap any retreat. This minimises the damage to the zealots which is vital.
