So I played my placement match tonight (and again got declared a Gold scrub) and played a PvP against a slightly favoured 4-gater (which I lost, but hey I'm only Gold).

I noticed that Blizzard only penalized me -1 point, which has never happened to me before. I challenged that he was a smurf, but he vehemently denied being one, claiming that he was once a Plat who got knocked down to Gold. As far as I can see, he's not really lying about him being a legit Gold.

My question is that if he's really a Gold player like me, shouldn't I have been penalized even further in terms of points? Losing to a Favoured opponent = -10 points, but losing to this slightly favoured guy = -1 point.

spent 20 minutes searching for 3rd placement game with a new 4v4 team, gave up.

you people and your smurf witch hunts... i get the feeling a lot of people use the word without knowing what it means

why -1, not understand

at this point in the season it's likely you don't have that many points to lose. point gains will be inflated and point losses will be less than normal till you hit the score your MMR says you should be at.
