I took a vacation leave from work for 2 weeks and was planning just to stay home and penetrate the ladder into masters. Last week, I propelled myself to solid top1 of my diamond division with a 200 point lead over #2. Starting June 22nd, I was getting 12-15 games in daily, with some stupid 9:0 winstreaks, and average winrate well over 60%. I was playing masters occasionally and thought that I got it. My total winrate for the past two weeks was 68%. I was focused, determined and happy. Until today.
Last night I found out that blizz are locking the ladder. I figured I only had 1 day to make it to masters. So I woke up 8am, had my coffee, then had my coffee, then put on some badass ladder music and so it began. At one point I got a masters opponent and...was favored over him, and won. I was so excited. In total, I played 29 games in 9 hours. I had more than half games against masters.
went....13:16.
It's 5:21 pm, and the ladder is getting shut down in 19 hours. I'm completely drained, both physically and mentally. Can't make it.
I'm looking back with disappointment and rage. Blizz so cut me off. I still have 6 days of vacation left, but guess what - ladder is locked for 20 days.
When work starts, I won't have enough time to focus on the game that much. Hopefully, somewhere in October, when I get my next week or so off, I'll take another shot at it.

You can just keep playing, your MMR isn't locked. If you get it high enough you will simply place right into masters next season. I guess the only downside is you won't know for sure when you reach masters, will have to guess by the proportion of masters players you are matching.
Yes I was considering beginning a big grind session next week to make it to diamond and then heard ladder was getting locked so decided against it. Now I'm going down to melbourne for the week though so it's going to be much more fun than the constant grind.
As I said in my news post, the ladder lock should be no reason to stop laddering. If you continue to improve your MMR while the ladder is locked, you will effectively be a Master League player. The promotion simply won't occur until you play your placement match in Season 3. Make that your new goal!
