It depends what Tastosis will be doing on Saturday. I know they have to cast most of Sunday so they will likely want to go to bed at a repsectable time but I feel in the interest of servicing those who can't make it into the venue if at all possible we source a venue where they can make an appearance after the completion of the days events or even during the day if they don't have commitments - even just so we can all truly appreciate them being here and they actually see how many people made it down to support (and give a cake as well).

Equally a cake presented on stream is valuable in itself for promoting us as spectators. If they aren't casting Saturday I feel it would be better to give a cake on the Sunday on stream as a lot more people will obviously be tuning in when they are casting.

Either way happy to contribute in some capacity.

It's actually kind of scary how much money we could pool for this. I am sure there are sooooo many people who would be willing to chip in even $5 or even $10.

The question is do we spend it on a huge pimpin cake or is the cake incorporated inside of another present we give him as well, or perhaps a cake for tasteless and a joint present for tastosis.

Either way this has almost limitless possibilities it's just about making sure we get into action asap and organise things ^_^ So sick he will be celebrating his birthday here!

Not even going to be in the same state and very keen to throw down for this.
In terms of logistics would it be easier to buy one normal size cake and decorate that to pimp spec to have presented on stream/outside WCS hours and then have 300+ cupcakes made up for everyone to chow down on?

Logistically easier to just direct people to a table to collect a cupcake than present giant cake cut it up and all the weird gripes people have with food handling. Then you have the spectacle cake around a bit longer for photo ops n general admiration. Plus I assume the organizers want this gesture to be a short one.

Thanks to the boom in baking thanks to TV chefs n such I am sure there is some kind of cupcake king or queen in Sydney and if you get in early *now* 350/400 would be easy as.

Cake business

I will collect donations from now until 1st August at 6pm for the buying of the cake/cupcakes.

What will happen?
There will be a main cake for him, as well as cupcakes to distribute to audience members who donated (unless we didn't collect enough... :S).

The more money we collect the better the cake will be! (and the more Tasteless will love us)

The amazingly talented Zepph will be creating edible Starcraft figurines to decorate the cake and cupcakes. Anyone interested in helping her out please PM her

Hopefully someone can get a hold of day9 or other family to confirm allegies? Also make sure he sees a list of ingredients before he chows down on it to be safe.

Actually, in general have the list available for anything being given out and avoid artificial colourings, etc. I'm sure asrathiel will give you a list of non-artificial things to make pretty colours and what not.

Pylon candles in the top left of the cake spells GG. Cupcakes are easily distributed. Tasteless gets the nexus.

Natural colours would be tops... if it's a professionally done cake you'd have to talk to them about what they've got available to use. Beetroot juice makes a wonderful bright pink

Can also buy natural food dyes, they should be able to do it if requested. Esp for $300 odd!

so it'll kinda look like this (exept a little less cluttered

don't have much time so i made a paint diagram
gold= nexus
yellow= probe
blue and green = mineral gas line
brown box = 27 pylons

any other ideas that could be written in pylons?
just make sure it is short enough to have 27

this cake will be for the casters and staff.
make cupcakes for the donators.
and cake pops for everyone else.

Also, is there any official notification that Tastosis will be casting any of the matches on Saturday?.. or are they casting the Oceanic finals only?

Cupcakes can be given out sans WCS and they can continue with the broadcast.

Just buy a large, decently made custom cake - seems like the cheapest, easiest choice to handle logistically! Present it to him on stream, everyone can sing, then cut it on a table down the back where those who are invited to have some can do when the time is available.
Remember there are going to be hundreds and hundreds of people there, including camera crew and all sorts of admin stuff, so you want to keep it simple!

:P I tend to forget 300 is still massive.
perhaps make the colour of the base more bright (nice blue or brighter green (grass coloured)
and make the icing for the cupcakes more solid. think it looks more professional that way. maybe in a box so you don't see all the cupcake wrappers too?
Just so the presentation looks amazing before it gets cut.

edit like a hamper tray but open at the bottom so all you need to do is lift then cut the icing so people can start nomming on cupcakes

Okay, just ordered the cake. Fingers cross it goes well.

Basically that^^ with a ribbon/cardboard covering the edges. The icing is a bit smoother. And candles forming the number 27 in the top right space.

I have an English friend who does a lot of baking but is asleep right now, I'll ask her tomorrow about it and see if she thinks noobs like us/myself are capable of making it.

Looking at the pic it looks pretty simple but time consuming - the cupcake themselves should be really easy and the topping should be easy to make, the writing should be easy and the only hard part should be the nexus and the minerals/gas because they take crafting skills but it should be fairly easy to make a block of sponge that someone with skills could craft if anyone could do that? (zepph?)

Could get some people to come bake at my house all day on Friday.

Thanks for the offer Fenner! The chance that it would not be made in time weighed heavily in my mind so I just went with the cake place after some changes were made to the order to make it cheaper.

Will have a proper cake base rather than cupcakes now. But will look the same on top.
It will be 70 x 50 cm so I hope there's a fridge out back that's large enough to put it in for a few hours. Cutting up the cake will take a bit more time but that can all be done behind the scenes anyway.

Cake + Present presentation to Tasteless

The cake and presents will be presented by Maynarde to Tasteless some time in the evening on Saturday 11th. It will then be cut backstage and distributed. This will mean however that it needs to be done as quick as possible to ensure we miss as little of the games as possible. I have had a few people ask to help out, which will come in handy as the cake is 70 x 50 cm big

All donators, staff and helpers are entitled to a piece of the huge cake. Please come forward for it as quick as possible after the presentation to Tasteless

Oh and if you won't be at WCS and want to send him a personalised message, please write/draw/decorate an A5 page, scan it and send it to Dox (d.reball@aclpro.com.au) to put in the books.

There was soooooo much cake.... three big trays of pieces one it was all cut up. I think pretty much everyone got some. We ran out of plates long before we ran out of cake!

I have to say, i first saw the heading for this thread a few weeks ago. But I never read it, as at the time I was actually wondering why everyone would be so nice to tasteless yet... at the same time, it would come across as being mean to artosis... ie... why would you guys get tasteless a cake and not artosis.

It wasn't until the Saturday when i realized it was his birthday that it all clicked, and suddenly made sense. (I mentioned this story to tastosis at the after party and they thought it was hilarious)

Seeing the absolute joy and complete surprise on his face. It was absolutely fantastic.. this was one of those rare, truly feel good moments that you get in life,

Congrats and thanks to all involved. You guys are special.

I feel like I was involved in the running of the Olympic flame, only for SC2 in SEA. Taking the cake out to him with Blade was so sick.

The whole time in my head I was like "don't trip, don't trip." haha! I had a vision in my head of getting to him, tripping and landing face first in the cake.

The cake was actually crazy tasty.
