Alright, hey all. This is not intended to be a place to be posting elements about the game story line or anything like that. I am hoping the community is mature enough to not release spoilers without using the appropriate masking for players who have not yet embarked on their journey into hell.
For me, having picked up the collectors edition, I must say I am very impressed with the detail and feel of the game. There are very limited lag issues (which is a big problem for me with SC2 in particular) and whilst I know some people had considerable server downtime - I did not seem to be affected.
Graphically, it is a big improvement from D2 (go figure!) but the thing I have been most impressed about is the use of the environment in a more dynamic sense. Monsters spawn around the map randomly and can interact with the terrain. Swinging your axe or casting a spell at a corpse will engage with most elements in the game - such as idle tables which, as you would expect, blow up! The experience is extremely enjoyable because you can get caught up in the detail if you want to, or just hack and slash your way through as you see fit.
The drop rate on magic items is also quite good in my experience. Not too regular, not too infrequent - making it feel much less like an MMORPG and much more like a classic role player.
There is certainly enough game play from what I have seen so far to involve at least 10 hours of entertainment when not trying to speed run (and that's without altering the difficulty). I implore those of you who wish to play single player to try and engage with some of the members of this community in particular as the gameplay experience is only bolstered by partying (the mobs get harder so there is no drop in difficulty - if anything it is more challenging!) and the looting system means no one can steal your drops!
I'm not sure I'm a fan of the lack of customization that I have seen so far - particularly involving skill choices and the like but I am not a terrible way into the game. The lack of a PvP element for the time being also produces much sadness as the typical "Zain" style of gaming is to run in and smash whatever you can - other players included !!
That said, if you played and enjoyed Diablo I and Diablo II - D3 is true to its roots and again is an amazing example of why Blizzard releases hold their value. I'd recommend it even to the casual gamer who needs a break from cheese on the SEA ladder!
