Sorry for the obscure title, I don't know how to word it better. Basically I want to know, at Bronze/Silver level of play, is it better to plan a specific build order for each match-up you could be in (so say I was Terran, I'd make a TvT, a TvP and a TvZ opener each), or, would it be better to try and design a single build order to tackle every match up thrown at it.
The advantage of the former is obvious, you would be able to be more specialised, less likely to produce meaningless units, etc. That's good enough in it's own right, but the latter has the upside of being used consistently, so it would be practiced more, and possibly end up being more "polished" than each of the multiple openers. It could also throw off your opponent, who might be expecting the "standard" XvX opener.
Obviously this doesn't carry into mid- and late-game strategy and army composition, as that would always be defined by scouting, countering, tech, etc.
So to summarise: a single, well-practiced, take-on-all-comers opener, or specific, specialised and maybe slightly underpracticed build orders?
