The SMU Starcraft 2 Tournament of 2012 happened today starting from early in the morning to late afternoon. It is sadly, one of the few LANs that happens in Singapore. If you were at the Cyberdome Cafe (Wherever that is cause I'm from Hong Kong) it must've been quite an experience. Really, the outcome of today's tournament was very surprising for many who participated and for those who casted and spectated throughout.
Starting from the players that came to the event, we had one of the biggest surprises today. A huge compliment coming out from everyone for SPGYoong (Supremacy Yoong) for flying all the way from Malaysia to Singapore just to attend this event. If the first place was my choice to hand, it would be the man who had so much dedication for Starcraft to fly all the way to Singapore.
As we move on into the day, surprising results came from the players. Undoubtedly, the format of this tournament was very punishing for players in the morning. Knowing that quite a number of players like to train over night, the amount of sleep may not have been great for many of the guys - and of course, having Single Elimination till the Quarter Finals did not help anything at all. One of the big surprises was the knockout of FlashRevenant , easily said as one of the top zergs of Singapore. His loss to BlitzSPR was a huge surprise to many and gave a lot of spectators a disappointment. Originally, a lot of people expected Revenant to go all the way into the finals, but unfortunately, the format of this tournament punished his mistakes early on. Moving on from Revenant, we also had a few other top players from Singapore getting knocked out early on, such as EveJaFF and SPGYoong .
(Also MVPDRG got knocked out. It seems like Singapore had some really sick big guns out there. )
Enough of surprises, let's talk about some honorable mentions from today. Only being in here after the lunch break the SMU players took, I checked the brackets and boy was I surprised. One of the most incredible outcomes today was EveJeonSa (aka Derpy). Taking out both BlitzSPR and EveJaFF the under-the-radar teenage kid made it all the way into the Semi-Finals where he got team-killed by EveYekke . Another person who really deserves a mention is Sheepy who for the first time had to cast for almost 9-hours straight. Quoted from Sheepy, "Casting is too tiring for me... Too old... I was talkative at the first but by the end I got too tired lol." This guy deserves a huge round of applause for literally bringing the entertainment to you guys today.
Finally, we have the results. We had two finalists today, both players coming from a long way. Of course we start talking about the runners-up in this tournament, iRLKyzersoze (name that is annoying to pronounce). Kyzersoze has always been a zerg around the SEA server that has performed well, but never hit high in tournaments. His ability to bring himself all the way to the end of this tournament has shown his growth from being just a guy that is decent on ladder to a guy that performs well on live events. Unfortunately, he suffered a 3-0 loss in a BO5 from EveYekke . EveYekke performed astonishingly well. Having never lost a single game to ANYBODY is an achievement beyond imagining. His record from today was literally 11-0. Yekke's performance was simply great today. While casting his second game in the Finals, both Sheepy and I were completely in awe of some of the plays he made. He's come a long way with countless practicing in the Korean server, and has recently proven himself to be the best of the best in Singapore.
Once again, thanks for everyone who tuned into the event. Thanks for the sponsors CM E-Sports, SMU's E-Sport club that organized this, and all the other supporters of this event. The streaming service was brought to you by Gaming and we look forward to do more Asian broadcasting!
We'll be bringing you some interviews soon of the finalists and some of the players that attended.
