Clan of the Hill, Week 4 - aLternative Strategies Prevail
aLternative Strategies Prevail
The boys at ialt /aLternative must be laughing as we speak. Following an easy 4-1 win over the defending champions iterror Terror Australis in this weeks Clan of the Hill Tournament, and with a star studded line-up of some of the best players in SEA such as YoonYJ and nirvAnA, who also recently took out the community open, they'll be looking to keep their crown at the top of the hill in the coming weeks.
Now, however, we have a recap of all 5 games from this weeks Clan of the Hill.
The game begins with standard openings by both players, with YoonYJ spawning in the center bottom location, with TAVoices spawning in the center right position. Yoon opts to grab his Factory before his 2nd gas, while TAVoices does the opposite, grabbing the 2nd gas first. Yoon goes for an expansion after setting up his Starport, while TAVoices goes for the traditional Tank / Marine / Viking. Just before Yoon's expo is up, Voices attacks into the tank line with a handful of marines and 2 tanks, but Yoon manages to fend it off.
Yoon immediately counter attacks with a Marine drop into TAVoice's main, killing a handful of SCVs and allowing Yoon to keep the pressure off his front long enough for him to build a sizeable defensive force. Yoon decides it's time to move out however, and with 3 tanks and with some marines, he sieges up below the ramp outside TAVoices' natural, forcing him to pull all of his SCVs off the line to deal with the threat.
TAVoices secures his expo after the attack, and immediately counterattacks, citing the lack of tanks Yoon would have. He sieges up on the ramp, and Yoon is forced to use scans to remove the threat.
Meanwhile, Yoon sneaks a MM ball around to TAVoice's nat, stopping all mining dead and kills the CC, while sniping alot of reinforcing units.
The loss of TAVoice's natural puts him very far behind Yoon at this stage, but he still has the superior tank count. However, Yoon pulls his SCVs off the line at the natural, along with all of his tanks and MM ball and managed to take down a few tanks, while the remaining few return home. Yoon goes all-in, sending everything he has at TAVoices' main, and he is not able to hold. Yoon takes aLt forward 1-0.
The game starts off with a bit of interesting banter between the two players, as Yoon spawns to the left and TARossi to the right of Lost Temple.
Both players begin standard, while Yoon grabs his 2nd gas straight after his barracks. It's quickly obvious that Yoon has decided to go for cloaked banshees, proxying his starport, while Rossi bunkers his front and goes for a blue-flame hellion drop.
The game comes down to who can do the most damage with their respective units, but Yoon is prepared for any drops with depots scattered around the edges of his base, while TARossi has no detection at all. Yoon fends off the drop while losing ~6 SCVs, while his control of the banshee allows him to outmicro the marines, as TARossi calls gg and aLt take a 2-0 lead over TA.
Both players begin standard, Yoon in the bottom right with TASmace in the top right. Yoon grabs a fast 2nd gas and places his factory and starport out of a normal scan location, and he goes for a blue-flame drop. TASmace goes for the traditional Tank / Marine / Viking, but his army is severely out of position and unable to deal with the threat. 28 SCVs for TASmace are reduced to just 5.
The game is quickly over when Yoon expands and sends a cloaked banshee in to finish the job. aLt 3-0 TA.
My favourite game out of the tournament, and by far the most exciting. Both players open standard, and both opt for the early 2nd gas after the rax is finished. TASalvatioN goes for Tank / Marine / Viking and while Yoon looks to be playing acordingly, he throws down a Ghost Academy and a Factory, aswell as a Starport for a Nuke Rush. However, his luck this game is nowhere to be found, as 2 of TA's Vikings snipe the Medivac as it pops, and they land and kill the Ghost aswell.
Yoon quickly expands, however TASalvatioN is quickly on the front foot, and moves forward with his Tank / Marine / Viking army. He engages Yoons forces at the natural, and crushes Yoon's resistance. However, Yoon has ghosts out and defensive nukes force TASalvatioN back, while nuking, but saving, his own CC.
TASalvatioN expands and quickly moves back in however, and this time sieges up and has sight of the high ground, and has turrets under construction. However, Yoon throws down another nuke, and manages to catch all 3 tanks and 3 of the 4 vikings.
This sets TASalvatioN back, and Yoon is quick to counter. TASalvatioN is preparing to take a 3rd, and has minimal defense. However, he manages enough Tanks to stop a frontal attack by Yoon, so he resorts to more devious, and destructive methods, double nuking. One for the tank line, and another for the natural, which has just been over-saturated by all the SCVs from the main. The result?
While the nuke at the tank line fails to land, the nuke at the natural which racked up 24 kills put Yoon ahead in harvester count for the first time in the game. Yoon retreats, and sends a drop to deny TASalvatioNs 3rd, with a ghost and 6 marines. However, TASalvatioN moves towards Yoons natural, and sieges up, forcing him to have no income. Yoon gg's, and it's aLt 3-1 TA.
Game 5 - Blistering Sands TASalvatioN vs aLtJimdiddy
TASalvatioN spawns at the bottom left with aLtJimdiddy at the top right. TASalvatioN walls himself in, and sneaks a Maka rax in at his natural, to the amazement of everyone who saw the game as it went unscouted - just.
aLtJimdiddy's view -
Everyone else -
aLtJimdiddy has opted for pool first, followed by a hatch. TASalvatioN moves out with a small force consisting of 4 Marines and 2 SCVs to apply pressure while he expands himself. The attack is easily dealt with by the lings and a spine crawler, and aLtJimdiddy goes to work on the back rocks, after scouting a double rax wall at the choke to the natural. TASalvatioN goes quad rax, while aLtJimdiddy goes ling / bling. TASalvatioN does a stim timing push, which is dealt with by ling / blings again, who immediately counter again. They roll into the main through the rocks and start to work on the SCVs. TASalvatioN's macro cant keep up with the Zergs, and GG's as aLt dethrone TA 4-1.
