HyuN earned his spot by taking down the lone Ro8 protoss and WCS Korea champion Creator with a 3-1 map score.
INnoVation (formerly Bogus) took out fellow KeSPA star Soulkey in convincing fashion with a decisive 3-0 map score to secure his semifinal berth.
Both players had interesting group stage matchups. HyuN escaped his Ro16 group otherwise full of Terrans narrowly, falling to MarineKing in the winner's showdown before securing his progression against Hack.
INnoVation handled Sniper in the Ro16, and with the aforementioned 3-0 victory over Soulkey, the Terran from STX Soul should prove to be formidable opponent for the TSL Zerg.
Ryung, in his first season representing Axiom eSports, is already assured of a career best finish. He earned his spot by taking down MarineKing in the Ro8 in convincing 3-1 fashion, despite being considered the underdog.
Sniper also emerged the victor after an Ro8 mirror match, taking down Leenock 3-1.
Ryung's Ro16 matches included impressive TvZ results - after a narrow loss in his opening match against Curious, Ryung took down Sniper's teammate DongRaeGu 2-0, before taking revenge on IZergCurious with another 2-0.
Sniper lost to INnoVation in his Ro16 group, but did manage to take out Polt 2-0.
With Ryung known to have consistent success against zerg on zerg-favoured maps such as Whirlwind, his strong TvZ might be enough to take it down to the wire, but Sniper's impressive play in the leadup to this season of GSL makes him a slight favourite.
Prediciton: Ryung 2 - 3 Sniper
GSL CODE S CHAMPIONSHIP
Sunday 2/12 1100 KST
HyuN vs Sniper
Sniper has a hectic weekend, also participating in both IPL and the Code S final. However, with teammates like GSL champion DRG in tow, this might not necessarily mean he's at all that big a disadvantage, and while he continues to impress in all his matches, he is looking like a strong contender. In the semi finals, Ryung seemed to be a more solid all-round opponent than did INnoVation, which only makes Sniper's win all the more impressive.
HyuN is a bit of an X factor though, having not had much opportunity to showcase his ZvZ in the Code S season thus far. He's been a mixed bag through the rest of the year too, with a perfect record vs Zerg opponents in the GSL, but a comparitively poorer 33% win rate in GSTL. He'll face off against a hot Sniper (with a much more solid 71% ZvZ win rate in GSL and 83% in GSTL) who managed to take out GSL runner-up and two-time MLG champion Leenock, whose ZvZ is incredibly solid.
Prediction: Sniper 4 - 2 HyuN
