03. ACLPRO 2012 League 3 - Melbourne Nationals (WCS Qualifier)

Group Stage - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...pYmhhdVE#gid=1
Championship Bracket (top 8) - http://challonge.com/aclmelpro

Whilst it's true that Terran in TvZ is still struggling, I honestly think overall Terrans performed decently. Unfortunately the racial spread between the groups was scewed, with both Group C & D having 3/6 Terran players meaning that overall Terrans couldn't have the maximum potential of making it to the championship bracket. Group C in particular was a massive blow, with both Zerg in that group escaping to leave the 3 Terrans behind (even though they had decent results). That being said, iaguz blazed through Group D going 4-1 making it the championship backet, before narrowly losing to Mafia in the 2nd round (i highly suggest watching iaguz's win over Mafia, an awesome game) and dropping to mOOnGLaDe in the losers bracket.

Protoss was really short on representation this time round, with open bracketer PezzaPerry making up a total of 3 Protoss! BiGbiRd found himself staring down the barrel of a really tough group, and although he didn't win any sets, he did take games off some very established players. PezzaPerry ended up at an impressive 2-3, taking sets of both Fenner and RiiChard, before falling to the Zerg swarm. It was a rediculously good run by Team Immunity's new player, Light, that stole the show however and had everyone excited. Going 4-1 in groups, he went into the top 8 and demolished mOOnGLaDe (2-0) and PiG (2-0) consecutively and it looked like a Protoss was heading to our grand finals (a major upset considering the stats). However the eventual Zerg finalists would step up to the plate, and unfortunately Light would fall 0-2 to both Mafia and PiG, finishing in 3rd place.

Altough it wasn't a clean sweep like Sydney, Zerg still showed us they are the dominate force in SEA. With 60% participation and a whooping 83 sets played (almost double the next closest race) it's no wonder why we continue to see so many Zerg in the top 8. That being said, it was the top tier of Zergs that did all the damage in the statistics (6 out of the top 8 players). Between mOOnGLaDe, Mafia and PiG, they had a combinet set score of 14-0 and a combined map score of 28-3 - a really outstanding statistic and showing why they are the best in the business.

However it would be the slightly (and I mean no disrespect) less favoured TtPiG that would eventually push his way through a tough top 8 to net himself a truely herioc win over Mafia in the finals (lots of respect to Mafia for the way he handled himself afterwards).

02. ACLPRO 2012 League 3 - Brisbane Regional Qualifier / WCS Qualifier

+ [Open to see event details!] +

A large drop in Terran representation didn't stop them placing in top 3 with a strong showing by xGKing.iaguz, which also earned him a much deserved WCS seed. This lack of Terran presence left a lot of wacky stats, such as no TvT matchups, and a 100% win rate for Terran over Protoss. Having said that and to once again reinforce the words of ZvT imba enthusiasts, the few Terran that attended were dominated by their Zerg opponents.

Protoss presence almost matched that of Zerg, and the match-up was at equal footing. It should be noted that the Brood War veteran Legionnaire made his first appearance in years (much to the surprise & excitement of the community) and contributed heavily in Protoss favour. Showing that he still has what it takes, his strong micro skills & quirky playstyle pushed him through to tie for most matches played at the event (7) and the most successful Protoss at 5 wins. In a strange turn of events, it also happens that 4th place earns him a seed in WCS later this year!

The NASL competitor Mf.TargA also had a good run, with 5 wins including those over 3rd place iaguz, 4th place Legionnaire and only losing to the eventual winner, granting him a second place finish. However, it was Australia's own purple pelican Zerg, NvmOOnGLaDe, who went undefeated on the day winning his 5 sets (only dropping 1 game to iaguz) to take the event and earn the much needed points to quailify for groups stages at ACL Melbourne.

Some notes:
This is a trial based on two areas that interest me - statistics & graphics! Whilst Info-graphics are not a new idea, you don't see them often (and I for one really enjoy them). This thread also serves as a thank you to event organisers and sponsors, both to whom do not get nearly enough appreciation or recognition and are quickly forgotten about.

There isn't a lot of substance here at the moment, however I plan to expand the scope of statistics that I gather to make it more interesting than just a pretty picture (replays & bigger player pools will make this easier).

The images shown in this thread get automatically re-sized by the forum, so if you'd like to see the original images at full size you'll need to follow the links provided
