Starting a minor League in Beijing, China! Anyone interested?
Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is the first time I'm posting. I was inspired by an idea of starting a minor league in my city. A simple league amongst schools, preferably International Schools. It'll be running all year long, where there are seasonal games then we have the play offs. A normal set up to most leagues. Right now, I was wondering if you guys could give me a little bit of feed back and if anyone is interested please contact me on Skype.
If you think its a horrible idea please say so and state reasons why. I'm looking forward to this and I believe it will be very fun!
I can vouch for this I think its a great idea, designed for schools outside of australia :P
but for schools that do join this league, it is very likely that there will be some collaboration with the current highschool league running for australian and new zealand schools
Good idea, I'm in Beijing but finished school years ago.
Make sure you put it up on youku or something, there are so many koreans here it could grow beyond a school league.
Ooo I'm from an International School in Hong Kong, (HKIS) and I've had a lot of ties with students in Beijing INternational Schools like ISB and WAB - I think it's a great idea - but students in China really lack SC popularity... Even in my school, most people prefer to play LoL mainly because its less competitive on a first level.
League restrictions
What leagues are you targeting? It obviously won't be fair/fun with GM and Bronze in the same league. You need some sort of league restriction.
Length
How long it the league running for? 'Year -long' is WAY too long for a SC2 League. From previous experience, even a league that runs for 2 months leads to some issues - namely, people improving. Previous leagues I've seen had people starting off in Plat and ending off in Masters, etc.You need to think about how you're going to handle this.
Format
Every format has pros and cons and the biggest con is attrition rate. Basically, people drop out of such leagues (especially if theyre long), so a round robin is going to be tricky. Many people hate the Swiss format too. What format are you thinking about with regards to Fixtures?
Map Pool/Usage
Do you plan to change this every month? Season (of bnet) ? How will players select a map to play? Weekly basis?
Just some basic things that I've learnt (some the hard way) that you need to consider before even starting the league.

I haven't really thought through the details but if you guys are willing to join this league then i would focus on those details e.g. format, length.
